[Post Game] Mavs@ Thunder: lol announcer
Really weird game and typical examply why the Thunder are overrated.
Never heard so much pure BS (not even typical home cooking, just pure BS) from announcer...
Chandler and Dirk ftw
Butler with a great 1st half

Why is there a post game thread before the game is even over? What is wrong with you people with 7's on your name??

btw:
So much for Dirk not having a pretty shot, not being able to pass or retain possession of the ball.

I like the positive postgame before over. Beats the hell out of the gdt negativity when there is still 30 minutes to play...

If Minny can get the job done vs. SA this night would be even greater.

Well, he can do it, everybody knows it. However, it has to be said that before tonight's game his FT-percentage was the lowest since his rookie season.

This was a hell of a win. A HELL of a win. People claiming the Thunder are overrated are missing the point a bit. They're a good team with a big home court advantage, and the Mavs just took them down on the second night of a back to back.
Tyson freaking Chandler. I mean holy cow. He needs to start playing 35 minutes a night, foul situation allowing. He went for 18/17 and I STILL don't think that accurately reflects the impact he had on this game. Just an absolute beast.
Shawn Marion defends Durant better than anyone in the NBA. He had a huge impact on the second half of this game. The ball flowed when he was in the game, he flashed to open spots, he crashed the boards and he guarded one of the best players in basketball. Not too shabby.
Dirk..I mean...he's Dirk. Fantastic game. I wont' even ding him for the boards because we owned the boards and it just seemed like a case where Chandler was gobbling up everything.
Kidd has GOT to fix his shot. Quickly. But he ran the offense flawlessly in the fourth and it shouldn't be overlooked how well he defended Westbrook.
This was a nice game for Butler and he STILL needed 13 shots to generate 15 points. He's just not very good anymore.
Subpar game for Jet and Barea, horrible, horrible game for Haywood.
Final point...the five that blistered the Thunder in the fourth? Kidd/Jet/Marion/Dirk/Chandler. That five should close just about every single game. I'm willing to accept some matchup changes in rare instances, but by and large that should be your five.

Great win, especially on the second night of a B2B. Dirk, Caron, Marion, and Chandler....going to win a lots of games if these four show up.

this was from my Detroit recap but it's basically still gold
Quote:
- Entering tonight, Nowitzki was shooting 52.8% (112-of-212 from the field). He's on pace to shoot above 50% for the second time in his career. The highest percentage he's ever shot from the field in his career was 50.2% in 2006-2007. Three letters come to mind when you think of that year: M-V-P.
|
I'm not worried at all with the offensive struggles because a major piece is missing and Roddy's inclusion will alter the minutes for a couple of players on the team and it'll make a huge difference.
The defense won't change and that's a good thing because it's red hot, especially late.

that was a really gutty win. the kind a team can build off of. Dirk was huge. Kidd & Jet w/ clutch 3's. Chandler was an absolute monster. Marion played great defense in that 2nd half.
please god, get Dirk a capable 2nd scorer. we can only imagine how good he, and by extension this team, could be if that were to ever happen.

Agree with most of this. Chandler was amazing tonight. When he, Marion and Kidd are out there, the defense can be pretty darn good.
I think the 5 you mentioned should definitely close games until Roddy gets back. When that happens, I'll be very interested to see what Carlisle does. I could see Carlisle alternating between Roddy and Marion depending on who's playing better.

Well, one thing that Dirk did tonight in the 4th... that I freakin' loved... after Westbrook switched onto him... he didn't just shoot the 15 footer... he dribbld a couple of times, gathered the ball and forced the foul while trying to shoot a 5 footer in the paint.
That is making the defense pay.
That play by Chandler at the end was awesome where he helped Terry (or Kidd) when the guard got past them... he contested the shot... then after Collison got the offensive rebound... Chandler on his spring immediately jumped again and altered the shot of Collison. Just beautiful.
And the key to guarding Durant (IMO) is to stay close to him and not "slap at the ball"... that is how he gets the rip move. He is waiting for the slap. But he doesn't have great court vision, and his hadles at his size are good but not compared to other SFs... so you want to make him put it on the floor and into a tough shot. Marion did that great.

Yeah I should have qualified the lineup comment with "until Roddy gets back".
I would hope that it would be Roddy and Jet alternating more than Roddy and Marion, although I guess there are matchups where I'd accept a three guard lineup with Roddy.

BTW, I know we're all already singing Dirk's praises, but let's not forget the key to the swing in the fourth quarter was Dirk's incredibly quick 7 points.
That was Reggie Miller-esque and it sucked the air right out the building. And LDub missed it.

This is something Dirk has really improved upon, and he's done it well all year long. When he has a size advantage, he takes his man to the hoop. I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen him fade away from a small defender.

For whatever reason, it really intrigues me that a go-to play out of a timeout is now Dirk on the left corner for a 3. It's 2-2 now and it's ignited the offense in a big way. I really can't remember the Detroit three but the 3 tonight was pretty contested.
Butler's points were kind of fool's gold for me tonight. He made a LOT of difficult shots, step-backs and highly contested shots...you'll take it tonight, but it's hard to count on that.

Agreed on both counts.
I commented on the Dirk wing three in the GDT. I really can't recall Dirk EVER shooting corner threes before those two plays the last two games.
It really makes sense though. Why not get a shooter like Dirk more of the most efficient shots in basketball (corner threes)? I love it.

I would hope that as well, but I'm looking at what I expect Carlisle to do. I don't expect him to sit Terry late in games. Also, I have fairly high expectations of Roddy and expect him to be in the game late. I'm interested to see what happens.

I agree KG. He did that the other night against Prince. And let's face it... he is bulldozin' his way to the hoop more this year. He did to Garnett as well. It really doesn't matter per se.
One think that I wish he would do on the Terry pick and roll is actually roll a couple of times. It would open up things a lot.

I thought Butler played reasonably well tonight. His offense was seriously needed in the first half, and he was aggressive. In the second half, he kinda sucked, and so he sat down.

Dirk should go back to tking more 3s. He is their best shooter. Why not have shoot the 3 in a smaller area? Catch and shoot.

It really is a testament to his ability to stroke the 3 supreme execution because we've established RC is great at creating plays out of a timeout...very interesting to see that new wrinkle.
Carlisle mentioned it after the game and Chandler alluded to it, this team is a family now. Despite the ups and downs, they're sticking together and supporting each other. It's definitely something that should be noted. Now they're just waited for their punk little brother to show up

I thought he played well in the first half, I just didn't see much that made me feel like he was turning any kind of corner. I just felt like he hit shots that he won't always hit. And when he doesn't hit them he's going to destroy the flow of the offense.
I'm so, so down on Caron right now. I feel like the JJB people.

Yeah, Dirk is going to the basket and finishing quite well (80% at the rim).
As for why Dirk doesn't roll, I think that ordinarily has to do with floor spacing and the way the plays are drawn up. Still, I agree with you. That would certainly throw the defense for a loop.

He is what he is. What I look for from him is aggressiveness and taking shots with confidence when he has them. I didn't really feel like he bogged things down tonight, and he was fairly aggressive. Also, his defense wasn't bad. I'm not going to complain about that.
