Caron Butler´s injury Thread
I think this one need an own thread so it doesnt get lost in all the upcoming game threads and since it will end in several trade speculations.
Quote:
Source confirms @ArtGarcia_NBA tweet: Symptoms indicate Caron Butler suffered at least partial tear of patella tendon. Could be season-ender
|
Quote:
Caron Butler likely has tendon injury, source says
CLEVELAND - Early indications are that Mavericks' forward Caron Butler has at least a partial tear of the patella tendon in his right knee, although the full extent of the injury suffered Saturday night at Milwaukee will not be known until his doctor visit today, a source close to Butler said today.
Such an injury could jeopardize the rest of the season for Butler, or at least a major portion of it.
Butler stayed over in Milwaukee Saturday night and was due back in Dallas today to get a thorough examination and an MRI by team physician, Dr. T.O. Souryal.
Dominique Jones is likely to be recalled from the NBA Development League Texas Legends and could rejoin the team in Cleveland for tonight's game against the Cavaliers.
Butler, having a solid season and an extremely productive last month, hurt the knee when he took off for a rebound on a shot that Jason Kidd made. Before he came down from his jump, he already was grimacing and reaching for his knee.
In the delicate balance of an NBA season, this is an earthquake shaking the Mavericks' house. They had started strongly and had been placed alongside San Antonio , the Los Angeles Lakers, Boston and Miami as legitimate threats to challenge for the NBA title.
If Butler is lost, that status certainly will have to be re-evaluated. Butler had been evolving as the primary sidekick to Dirk Nowitzki and if he misses significant time, it means a shakeup with the Mavericks' rotation. It's not just a new starter at small forward, but the domino effect will put more strain on the Mavericks' depth.

I think if its clear that Butler will miss the season or cant make it back for sure until april the Mavs HAVE to look for trades. It sucks for Butler who became a great teamplayer but our window is just too short to wait for him.
In that case our "luck" would be that Charlotte (Jax, Wallace) and Philly (Iggy) didnt pull any trigger yet. I think we have nice chances to trade for Jax if we really want it. Jordan called the team out allready (even including Wallace), Jax has 2/20 after this season left and i think not many teams want it. Take a semi bad contract (Najera/Livingston) and we have Jax. With a bad contract like Diaw or Diop maybe even Wallace.
It sucks to talk straight potential trades but we have to fill this hole.

Potential "patellar tendon rupture"....
Thats the same type of injury that ended Barkley`s career and made Ronaldo (the fat one) as irrelevant of a soccer player as you can possibly be.

Could be a good sign. When the ligament is completely done, there are no more questions left to be asked. So i hope the Juice will be back til March.

Whose wish exactly? Butler's play as of late has been stellar. Are you being sarcastic? Are there really people who think Caron shouldn't start games?

It's not like we were going to beat the Spurs or Lakers. The Spurs aren't even peaking yet but they're the already the best team in the NBA, LA would've raped us like always.
Face it, the Mavs are the biggest chokers in the history of basketball.
There is no legit 2nd option for the Mavs, once the playoffs starts we'll choke like always.

Well, the Wawawa guy is partially right. The season may not be over but it makes the road much harder against SA/LA etc. And against the lower West teams like Utah/Oklahoma City/etc if they meet up in the first round.
Yes, having Butler's presence is that important.....

What on earth makes you think the Spurs aren't peaking yet? They are on pace for 72 wins right now, they have a slew of guys that are playing better than they have in a while, and they really haven't had to deal with injuries so far.
Are you just a Spurs troll?

It's true, look at the past 10 years for the Mavs. Dirk plays his ass off in the playoffs and everyone else gets shut down because they're just a bunch of role players.

They don't start peaking after the all star break, just look at their past 10 seasons, the shit hasn't failed once.

They weren't ever pacing for 72 wins at this point in the season so that's pretty irrelevant as far as I'm concerned. Do you think they aren't going to lose again or something?

Iggy and melo suddenly look like good options. I was really hoping to see this current team go 94+ games together and build some major chemistry. At least dirk and Marion are both 3-4 gamers.

Iggy isn't that good anymore, idk why but he's been playing like crap. Melo would take too many pieces to acquire, we'd have to trade Roddy and some other players for someone we'd just rent.

Pretty annoying how fast a season can turn around. Tonight the Mavs will have their hands full with a Cleveland team that they probably would have manhandled just one week ago. If the injury is season ending, we clearly have to move on without him. And 2 months may also be too long. So better pull the trigger either way.

Exactly, they haven't had a legit 2nd option on their roster since Finley. Manu+Parker=guys who can create their shot any time they want.
Who's going to step up in the playoffs besides Dirk? NOBODY. The Mavs ALWAYS perform well during the regular season, why? Because these teams are built for the regular season, but once the playoffs start that's when the Mavs' flaws are exposed.

It's January. The playoffs start in mid-April. Two months is not "too long," if that's what it is.
