Default Rip Hamilton

All the articles I have read suggest that the pistons would really like to trade Rip but, are unlikely to find any takers due to his contract. I thought the mavs should jump on this opportunity but when I saw his contract, even I am not sure that we should take it on. At 31 years, he still has about 49 million left on his contract for the next 4 years (including this season). The pistons also have a lot of money committed to Ben Gordon who plays the same position. I think that the pistons are so desperate to move him that I think that if the mavs are willing to take on his contract, they should make the following offer.

Drew Gooden and Matt Carroll for Rip. And in a separate trade, offer a trade exception for Chris Wilcox to replace Gooden as back up center.

What do you guys think?

Do it, I'd even unload Howard on them as a full expiring. Bringing a guy like Rip who operates well without the ball, gives Kidd another target, it's less about system, but more about basketball. RIP is old school and would need no time to get acclimated to the Mavs. I saw a headline about the owners wanting to sell the team too......

Guys who are studs without the rock are guys that fit in well with JKidd. Rip would be a nice fit, he's big enough to slide up to the 3 also.

I think the MBT are going through a stubborn phase right now that they feel they have to boost their bruised egos after the Kidd trade by getting "steals" (i.e. Boozer for Gooden/Hump/Williams) Unfortunately there are no "steals" out there even though there are trades out there that simply make sense. But they're not paying attention to them.

i say hell no. rip is a good player but we need a younger guy. this is why iguodala is ideal. kevin martin is a close 2nd IMO.

i for one am dying for a trade that sends howard out..and gets us a talented SG that can shoot the lights out.

Good player but not a good fit, imo. We need more playmaker, less system oriented.

Posted this over in the PGT as well, but it fits here better:

Ok, well, the Pistons are apparently so set on saving money by trading away Rip for Troy Murphy's expiring that they are not even playing him. Now, I don't think Rip is the best option for this Mavs team...but he may come at the lowest price.

Pistons are willing to take back Troy Murphy & Johan Petro, plus a future 2nd rounder, for Rip. Mavs should just offer Caron's expiring straight-up. Way better deal for Detroit, as he's cheaper than Murphy and they don't have to eat a bad deal in return. In fact I'd argue the Mavs could ask for a draft pick in such a deal. No, he's not the player he used to be, but he is a 2nd scorer and a legit SG.

I could live with RIP, but him alone doesn't make us a title contender

I wonder if this is doable.. I definitely see the Pistons being up for it. All I know about the 76ers is that they need shooting guards bad.

Rip Hamilton and Prince goto Mavs

Caron, Iggy, and Ajinca goto Pistons

Terry & Stevenson goto 76ers.. with picks/money from Pistons
