Tyson Manhandler with another nice game - 14 points, 15 boards.
Dirk was absolute money tonight and really got rolling in the second half, which was good because the rest of the team pretty much stalled out in the second.

Man it is great seeing Garnett lose. The only thing that would have made it greater was if Dirk had of jammed it on his @ss a la Billy in White Men Can't Jump.

This board is starting to look a lot like the anarchic NBA section of spurstalk...

It is nice to see the Mavs winning without having a true consistent second option. Just goes to show that having a great defense will give you the opportunity to win ballgames even with a mediocre offense.

we scored 100+ against a good defense allowed to grab, push, shove, and elbow
not sure how that is mediocre offense.

Since the last four games (since the game against Atlanta, including tonight's one) Dirk is shooting 65% FG, 75% from downtown and 96% from the line... Seems he has found back is shooting stroke.

Oh, and after starting off the first quarter 6-6 for 12 points... Garnett scored 4 points afterwards (and was only 1-9 FGAs)....

i wonder if it bothers KG that dirk always outplays him. I actually thought he'd get the better tonight when he started 5-5 and dirk was struggling.

Oh, and Carlisle apparently didn't like Haywood tonight. He appaRently told him: "Hey you wood chuck! Quit chukkin' my wood!" and PROMPTLY SAT HIS @SS ON THE BENCH.

This win deserved a better PGT.

I think Mahinmi will be the 2nd string center by the end of the month.

Yeah he was awful. He got outhustled on the offensive end, and Carlisle sent Ian to the scorers table. Then Haywood did something stupid on the defensive end and Carlisle called a timeout specifically to get Wood out of the game. And I don't think he played again.
*sigh*

Please. Dirk doesn't struggle. What you perceive as him struggling is actually him crouching down with his tail twitching and patiently waiting for his moment to strike - that moment when the opposing team's defense makes the slightest miscalculation, when a defender that switches on to him is just a little too short, when the double team plays him too strongly to one side, when a guy eager for a block attempt leans in just a little too close...

Did it? Maybe I'm letting the fourth bias my opinion too much, but I didn't really think we deserved the win tonight cause we sure were sloppy in the fourth. Of course, some of that was Celtic defense clamping down, but it didn't look pretty. I'm still scratching my head on how we came out on top. Even the possession that ended in Kidd's game winner looked pretty bad.
This thread seems strangely appropriate in my book.

Dude they didn't score a single points for the last two and a half minutes of the game. It was their fourth loss all year at home.

Wish Carlisle would take the Mahinmi at the 4 idea a little more seriously, but oh well.

Thoughts:
1. Dirk is an absolute beast. What a game. 9-14 and 29 points despite KG's punkass bearhugging him every time down the court. Funny thing is, very few of those points were jumpshots. Several times he took KG to the low block and just took him to school with some nasty step through lay-ups. Also, that last possession can't be stressed enough. Terry gave him a terrible pass at his feet, and Dirk had the coordination to reel it in, drive, draw a triple team, and kick it to Kidd. Savvy.
2. Tyson played great and I loved him not getting bullied by Perkins and FakeG.
3. JJB started hot, but he played pretty awful later on. I think KG really got in his head with the punk T. JJB is pretty mentally weak. He airballed a three right after that and forced a few shots. Remember against N.O. when he missed like 4 fts in a row to lose the game?
4. KG is a PUNK. Anyone who respects that clown is a clown themselves. It is SICKENING to watch him get away with what he does. He should have been ejected when he TWICE shoved the ref. You can't touch a ref, let alone throw their arm off you twice. I think the ref was actually intimidated, he looked to the other ref for help. It gets so old watching KG play "defense". He just holds Dirk with both arms. The late turnover was hilariously blatant. Dirk can't get to the ball with a guy pushing him away. I loved Mark Jackson: "That's just great defense!" *Replay* Mike Breen: "Welll...he grabbed him though". MJ: "Yeah...he did." Dead air.
3. Marion played great off the bench. Haywood looked awful and I'm glad RC went with Ian who was at least active. Haywood can gtfo if he thinks he can play with passion once every week and that's cool. Terry had a decent statline, but I didn't think he played well. He forced a few shots in the 4th.
4. Jason Kidd!
5. GTFO with this Spurstalk shit. There is no excuse for a glorious win like tonight being tainted with these lameass losers and their bullsh*t schtick. How these bozos have carte blanche to act like 4th grade bit*hes and I get banned I will never understand.

JJB certainly did look rattled, but I don't think it's fair to label him mentally weak. I don't think you carve out the kind of career he's had so far, coming from where he did, if you're mentally weak.

Well, lets just say easily rattled then. At times the pressure seems to get to him. i.e. N.O. fts.

Seriously WTF will the Mavs do with Haywood?.... Too much money for a 3rd string center...

You can go with smallball only so long until a good team starts to exploit it. In the second half, the Celtics started exploiting it somewhat.
