They had clean looks on all of the big shots they hit, we deserved to lose for playing D like that. That's what happens.

It came down to the last shot twice this season in Denver. We got away one time and lost today. Sounds pretty fair. Would have been nice to close out the 8pt lead with 2:00 minutes to go though.

That was a painful way for our guys to lose, but they have to learn you cannot take plays off in the 4th quarter. They were leaving guys wide open, at times they would get to the shooter but not put their hands up. And Dirk missed a big FT also. It sucks we lost, but hopefully this is a reminder to the team of what happens when you don't go all out.

Yeah, it doesn't bother me at all that they lost on a buzzer beater in Denver. Only thing that bothers me is blowing an 8-point lead with 2 minutes left. Just can't do that.

What an annoying loss. The Mavs are on another level to the Nuggets and they had multiple opportunities to put the game away.
Then again Dirk had another average performance and the Mavs were only a shot away from winning.

well look at it this way... this is probably how the kings and the cavs in the 2 games before this and all the other teams that we beat 9 times out of 10 in close games feel

Give some credit to Denver here. There's a reason they sit atop the league in offensive efficiency.

Great game, and served as a reminder that you don't always get the W. Also that if you want to win, dont blow leads and make sure to hit your free throws. It's one of many possible matchups but I am not phased one bit by this. We still have an ace, Denver is only going to get worse before the playoffs so why fret? When we all know melo is gone in 2 weeks

I'll take Dirk at the FT line to take a lead and Marion with the key defensive assignment...I'll take it every day and twice on Sunday.
It just didn't work out tonight.

Should have never gotten to that, though. I won't take a one-point lead with <20 seconds left, regardless of who's shooting FT's and who has the defensive assignment, when it was an eight-point lead with 1:50 left. It's really just not acceptable.

It really shouldn't have gottent to that point though, we weren't closing out hard on their threes. And when we finally did close out well (Matrix on Billups) Billups got his own rebound and got it to Nene. This is a game we let slip away.

It never should have gotten to that point...but it did.
So since it did, I'll still take those two scenarios.

I'm not sure I agree that much with not closing out on threes. Billups took one 10 feet behind the arc and hit it. Carmelo was taking them from a standing ready position and went 5-7 for goodness sakes.
Just a bad day for 3pt defense as both teams shot over 40%... Yuck...Chauncey seemed like he was nuts but Camelo went 70% for goodness sakes...ridiculous...

Chauncey's early 3 was way deep but if you go back and look Kidd is guarding Afflalo&Anthony on their respective late 3's and he never even gets a hand up on either.

I'm not saying that every 3 was evenly contested. But I'm sure not saying that "we weren't closing out hard on their threes" because that wasn't why carmelo wen 5-7..

that would be the complaint. billups and melo (for the most part) were just hitting jumpers. not a lot you can do about some of the shots they were hitting (at least not without opening things up elsewhere). but the defense on affalo in the 4th was terrible.

i don't think anybody did close out well on the 3s - but, at least with melo, you're not supposed to.
much rather he be chucking 3 pointers than driving the ball to the rim (even if he did a fair amount of that as well).
melo is a career 31% 3 pt shooter (slightly better than that this year) - he would be a much better player if he removed that aspect of his game (save for the wide open shots in rhythm) and focused on the things he did well.
