2010-2011 Most Overpaid/Underpaid Players
Based on wins produced
Methodology:
Quote:
A reminder we take the league payroll (around $1.9 billion) and divide it by the number of available wins (1230) to get an average win value ($1.58 million) we then credit a player the “market value” for each Win Produced and subtract their salary to see if they were worth the cash. Let’s see what we come up with.

Nature of the lists seems whack to me. Not sure how LBJ is underpaid (I mean, I do according to the methodology).

Guess it depends on what you think of win share. But even if you're not a fan of the stat I’m guessing most people would agree that the names on the overpaid list are dead on. You can argue about degree but most of those gusy are clearly overpaid.
Jet and Kobe are the names that surprised me. It makes me wonder if wins produced fully captures their contributions.
Methodology aside I also don't have much problem with the underpaid list either. It makes intuitive sense that 24 of the 30 players on the list are playing on contracts that artificially cap their value (rookie or max). Say what you want about Lebron, if there were no caps on player salary he’d be making $30M+ right now.

The name that stuck out to me was Pau Gasol.

This is just based on regular season win shares, right?
Because playoffs Jason Terry definitely earned his money more than regular season Jason Terry...

And yet he still wouldn't have a ring.

Bet not many people thought they'd ever be saying something like this in July.

It's regular season only but I still wouldn't consider him overpaid. He made $10.7M to be arguably the the second best player on a 57 win team. It looks like more of a case of WP not being kind to him than being grossly overpaid.
