Dude, Juwan Howard isn't coming back here.. He just tweeted and said that "he's better than that."

I am currently predicting a mid season Dirk trade and a Donnie firing. My rational: They are tanking and no one will sign with them. They have shown by blowing up a championship team that they won't give players a chance to win and no one wants to be with a loser. So why not ride the tanking wave to the bottom. But you have to save face to and change the perception that you aren't about blowing up chances to win, so they sacrifice Donnie to change the general impression of the team?

Fire Donnie?? Why is this his fault again? Isn't it part of his job to spend the franchise money and get players he feels can help? How can he do that if the owner doesn't want to spend, regardless of the reason. Therefor you can't fire him. At least not from what I have seen.

I didn't say it was justified, but it wouldn't surprise me if he takes the fall to repair the image of this team right now. We can't even sign a 40 year old homer. Somebody will have to take a fall for this eventually. Justified or not.

Next year looks a lot sexier guys. We just need to ignore this season even though it hurts to waste a year of Dirk's prime, and focus on next season. We must land two big free agents next year. Getting one will do nothing and it will be hard to convince any one person to come, but if you can get two on board, then a new big 3 can be formed.
I'm not even listing Team Options here, these are unrestricted, restricted, and guys with player options for next year. I know some might not be realistic but there is plenty here to choose from. I think there are some good 2 player combinations here that could put us right back on track:
Chris Paul, L.A. Clippers – Unrestricted
Dwight Howard, Orlando Magic – Unrestricted
Andrew Bynum, L.A. Lakers – Unrestricted
Josh Smith, Atlanta Hawks – Unrestricted
David West, Indiana Pacers – Unrestricted
Paul Millsap, Utah Jazz – Unrestricted
Al Jefferson, Utah Jazz – – Unrestricted
Manu Ginobili, San Antonio Spurs – Unrestricted
Devin Harris, Utah Jazz – Unrestricted
Monta Ellis, Milwaukee Bucks – Early Termination Option
Andre Iguodala, Philadelphia 76ers – Early Termination Option
Monta Ellis, Milwaukee Bucks – Early Termination Option
James Harden, Oklahoma City Thunder – Restricted
Serge Ibaka, Oklahoma City Thunder – Restricted
Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors – Restricted
Ty Lawson, Denver Nuggets – Restricted

Can we agree that this "next year" thing is just crazy talk? How do you attract talent here when Dallas has trouble in most sports in the FA? Not just basketball. Dallas teams seem to better in trades. Top tier players go to the bigger markets.

But right now all top markets are pretty crowded, i guess that would give us a better chance. Miami out, Knicks out, Brooklyn probably out, Lakers definitely out and... those guys left on their teams gotta play somewhere, and after New-York, Miami, Los-Angeles, and maybe Chicago, we might as well are the next best thing.
Also, i would assume Cuban an co. will get a clear picture next spring, or early summer, just how big of a chance we have at those guys if they're still on their teams by that time. If they're not available, we can reload then. Or do trades mid season with the cap space, lot of posters forget that. We could pull off a 4 team blockbuster with 3 players coming in in the february trade window, just like in the trade with the Wizards. Let's have some faith in the FO despite the tough free agency.

Also, I clearly stated that "We must land two big free agents next year. Getting one will do nothing and it will be hard to convince any one person to come, but if you can get two on board, then there will be interest and a new big 3 can be formed."

A high draft pick and two top tier FA's next off-season would sure do wonders to get things back on the right track and give Dirk the type of team he deserves. I must say, though, that outside of Howard, Paul, and maybe a few others in that FA list, there aren't many players there that I envision as franchise cornerstone caliber players.

Can thig or someone give us a reset on the team salary situation, now that Kidd is (evidently) gone? That's one cap hold off the roster. What are we looking at in terms of other cap holds and exceptions, etc?
And...if it really came to battening down the hatches and riding this thing out for a year...what kind of minimum do we have to meet? Also, that minimum only is enforceable at the end of the year, right? Like, we could enter the season with a thin roster and keep the trade exceptions for use midseason? (They expire well before the trade deadline, though, don't they?)
Anyway, just wondering what the details would be in a bare-bones kind of scenario.

As bad as it sounds keeping the powder dry is the only option at this point. This coming up season is screwed any way we go. At this point you keep Dirk, don't sign anyone past 1 year, hope Dirk stays healthy, and a top 5 draft pick, Marions deal will have one year left and should be easy to dump.
Can someone tell me the contracts on the remaining players signed? Is Roddy done after next season?

Can someone post a list of the remaining free agents and what our roster looks like right now? At this point we need to start discussing on this forum the people we need to bring in on short deals to fill out the team.

Right now the only way the FO can salvage this mess is to trade Matrix and Haywood for a top tier player. If they can pull that off then maybe you right the ship. There are no other players to trade. In fact, right now they only have about six players under contract. As for free agency next summer, Dallas is likely to be at the bottom of everyone's list. Right now you likely have Chandler out there talking about the FO. You know JET is bad mouthing Cuban and Donnie. Nash is probably laughing his arse off at the arrogance of the FO. The reaction of the FO to the new CBA is changing the reputation of the Mavs organization. It takes time to change a bad reputation.
Is the MBT attempting to deflect the mass defection by looking to do sign-and-trades with JET, Kidd, and Ian?

We're currently at about 45Mil in committed salary. If the salary cap stays the same as last year, the salary floor will be around 48Mil.
We have huge cap holds for Jet and Kidd that will be gone Monday.
We have small cap holds on Yi and Cardinal, which are insignificant and will be renounced when necessary.
We have a small cap hold and Early Bird rights on Ian. We an offer him a contract using cap space, or we can go over the cap up to an average salary (about 5Mil annually). Seems about 50/50 to me on whether we'll bring back Ian.
We have a small cap hold on Delonte but no Bird rights. I would imagine that we re-sign him, probably with an exception of some sort.
If we drop below the cap, we'll have about 13Mil of space to play with and the Room exception, which is 2.5 Mil for two years. I'd say it's very unlikely that we use do this.
If we stay above the cap, here are the exceptions we can use:
For signings:
MLE - 5Mil per year up to four years.
BAE - 1.9Mil per year up to two years.
For trades (trade exceptions cannot be combined and can only bring back equal salary plus $100,000, meaning the standard 125% or 150% doesn't apply):
8.2 Mil
4.2 Mil
3 Mil
2.1 Mil
There's any number of ways to use those trade exceptions, including using them to essentially sign a free agent via a SnT, like the Nets are doing with Reggie Evans.
My guess is that Kidd signing with the Knicks turns into a SnT of some sort, getting us a trade exception (if we can involve a third team) or maybe a player the Mavs view as semi-valuable.

With the current pieces that the Mavs have, what does it look like after the 2012-2013 last place finish?

BREAKING NEWS
The Dallas Mavericks have offered free agent point guard Johnny Capspace a 1 year deal. No word yet on the amount of the contract or if Johnny Capspace will take it. He currently holds offers from Miami, Brooklyn, NY, and the Los Angeles Lakers.

I think if we can get 2 of these following players: Session, Mayo, Camby or Kaman. We can still be decent.

I wonder if you couldn't try to take a 1 yr guaranteed flyer on OJ Mayo with the 8.9 TE and then try to fit Raymond Felton into the 3M TE. You might be able to get Mayo on a make good deal and Felton was rumored to be interested in coming back to the Knicks for the mini MLE.
You'd have the MLE to try to split between resigning Delonte and getting Roy. You'd also have the ability to use your other exceptions to try to get Camby or talk him into the BAE.
Sessions doesn't do a whole lot for me and Kaman does even less.

Mark Cuban and the Mavericks plan:
-Re-sign Delonte West
-Keep Haywood until next off-season and than amnesty him.
-Dump the entire roster except a couple of key guys.
-Tank the season
-Steal the top pick away from Charlotte. They stole our uniform design, we're going to steal their #1 draft pick.
-Draft Shabazz Muhammad
-Sign Chris Paul and Dwight Howard
Next years starting lineup for the 2013-2014 season:
PG. Chris Paul
SG. Delonte West
SF. Shabazz Muhammad
PF. Dirk Nowitzki
C. Dwight Howard
This Youtube video accurately displays my thoughts about that plan and its success.

Johnny Capaspace is off a successful career where he averged zero points, zero rebounds and zero assists. He did however lead the league in Dallas mavericks front office woodies.
