They're already better than last season. Kaman+Collison trumps Kidd+Terry.

Does Redd have anything left in the tank? I know he's often injured.. ripped a huge part of his prime out of his career.

agreed. agreed on the "significantly" as well.
Plus every team needs a shotgun toting pg.

Yeah I think it's a little premature to say the roster is better already. Unless/until we get Brand we're incredibly thin in the front court.

I'd still say Kaman/Collison/Jones/draft picks > JET/Kidd/West.
edit: Yeah, I'm forgetting that we lost Mahinmi. Get Brand, or resign West, and it's a done deal that this team's better, though.

You're undervaluing Terry and West.
Actually, add Terry to this team, and it might look pretty salty.

Roddy has always been inconsistent and to be honest is trash. West is more consistent than him.

He hasn't shot the three-ball over 35% since 08-09...
Also, his main profile picture on nba.com doesn't instill any faith in his health:

If you can anchor the center position and get a killer from 3-point land, this team could be great with the right chemistry. Say what you want to about last years team, but I'm willing to blame the shortened season and Odom drama on some losses.
Does this make us a title contender? Hell no. But we did hang with OKC in some games last year. If this squad is younger and better defensively, maybe last second buzzer beaters by Durant aren't even in the cards.
I do think if we get Brand it's not unreasonable to have a shot at the 4-6 seed if we have the right chemistry. Remember, going into 2011, none of your asses bled for Tyson. You never know what could happen.
Going into 2011, I'm willing to bet none of you thought we would do better than the 4-6 seed.

You're undervaluing what sort of impact Kaman will make next to Dirk. First time in a long time that Dirk's had a long post scorer. The offensive spacing is going to be ah-mazing, and Collison can sure take advantage of that.
With that said, there's still plenty of moves that need to play out. I have no doubts that this team WILL be better, but it is probably a bit too quick to call these guys better. I do think we'll miss Terry's shooting, even if he only shot 43% from the floor last year.

Well that situation (SL) is almost always set up to be a cluster F. NOt enough time to get plays and chemistry down. It's probably as close as you can get to roll the ball out and let 'er rip. Even if he killed it, I would be cautious hoping it would transfer into the reg season.
Dojo's only shot at the NBA imo is running the point.

I'd rather seem him kill it. I won't amount that to anything tangible in the NBA, but I would be concerned that a guy who has been in the NBA and knows how the SL works ends up sucking in it.

Some thoughts about what looks to be developing:
I'm pretty excited about chemistry possibilities on this team (especially if we get Brand). Brand and Kaman had their best years together. They never had Dirk.
Add two solid players that played together last year in Indiana (Collison and Jones). Both play defense.
Our team will play some pretty kick ass defense when you throw Marion into that buzz saw.
Re-sign Delonte and our defense is going to get even better.
Of course, don't forget that we also have a defensive-minded coach that figured out schemes to shut down Lebron.
I love Tyson Chandler to death, but even he didn't have THAT much help on defense when he played here.
It seems like we didn't rebound the ball well last season. Kaman and Brand can rebound with the best of them.
We really just need a cold-blooded threat at the SG (time to step up Roddy). Dirk, Brand , Kaman, Carter and Collison will get theirs when it comes to scoring. Marion will always pick up the "ugly" points (take out the trash).
Brand and Kaman both shoot free throws better than Haywood (each about 25% better). Me Likey
Both Jones and Collison shot in the mid .800s in free throws last year. Let's get their young, quick athletic frames to the free throw line.
The points per game added by Brand and Kaman would probably make up for the PPG by letting Terry and Haywood go.
We would have to run the offense differently. It seems our offensive interior game is about to get A LOT better when you combine big strong scorers down low with penetrating point guards. Dirk will be waiting on the parameter.

I don't know mates, but I'd say this team is already on par with last year's team if not better.
PG: Collison is better than Kidd in terms of athleticism though Kidd performs better in clutch and is smarter. (With RC running the show, "smarter" ain't much of a problem)
I'd say Collison wins this one especially if he keeps improving through the season.
Back/ups: West?/Jared/Jones > West/Jones (This Jared guy looks like someone waiting to explode with the right playing time, team and coaching)
2013 > 2012 in PG position
SG: This is the area where the Mavs regressed. Losing Terry was big and they now need a good shooter to replace him. Carter can do it in bursts but they need a more consistent, younger SG. (OJ, Lee - Having OJ fitting the bill of the JET role better)
D.Jones/Booby/Carter/West? < JET/Booby/Carter West
2013<2012 in SG
SF: Trix is still Trix albeit older but he will have help now in J.Crowder. Been watching vids of this guy and he has a good stroke from 3, and seems to be hard worker and a guy willing to do the dirty work. He is Metta World Peace without the psycho tendencies.
2013>2012 in SF
PF: Dirk is Dirk, Wright has room to improve, and if they sign Elton Brand. Beastin!!! (Fuck Lamar Odom)
2013 = 2012 in PF, if Brand is signed and Wright gets some more meat then
2013 >> 2012
C: Well guys...i will take Kaman over Wood 10 times out of 5. Ian's gone but we have Sgt. james..So...
2013>2012, with Brand 2013 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 2012

We need to resign Delonte. You can't trust that guard depth right now.

Re-signing Delonte would be a significant move. You can't have enough tough-minded, no BS, play while hurt, guys on your team.
PG: Collison/West/Roddy
SG: Carter/Jones/West
IMHO

Nice tags, but we're talking about the "roster," not the "rooster" (+rep to whoever came up with that one!)

I more interested in how Carlisle will change the offense than anything else because it was straight trash last year.
Like that we picked up guys who could hit there FT's. Ian/Brendan/Lamar/Brandan cost us some games with their poor FT shooting.

I think Roddy if he can have a good summer and great training camp. He needs those jump shots to start clicking again. Still seems like an ideal Jet replacement if he gets his head on straight.

Exactly.
And it was still a close series vs. OKC
IMO our offense will look much better this year. Finally a quick PG who can penetrate, a C who can score. And with Brand*/Kaman in the lineup Dirk should be much more perimeter oriented this season. He should take 5 3's per game easily. People will be surprised how little JET will be missed on offense.
*hopefully we get him
And our defense should be still very good. I think esp. Marion's job will be easier and less energy consuming this year. More rest between games should also help guys like Marion or Carter.

The Dallas Mavericks will make a "very aggressive bid" for Elton Brand in the amnesty waiver process, a source close to the situation confirmed Wednesday.
The Philadelphia 76ers have used their amnesty clause on the 6-foot-8 veteran forward, making him eligible for teams under the salary cap to put in bids. The winning bid earns Brand's services and will pay that amount of the $18.2 million he's owed next season, the final year of his contract.
The Mavs, by virtue of deciding Wednesday to use the amnesty clause on Brendan Haywood after agreeing to a one-year deal with center Chris Kaman, have a substantial amount of cap space to make a strong bid for Brand.
"(The Mavs) are going to save Philly a lot of money," the source said.
Brand averaged 11.0 points and 7.2 rebounds last season for Philadelphia.
