Per Woj.

Very happy about this. Was worried when Hornets were reported as winners by some early tweets.

And this is why, as I posted in the other thread, you should never listen to twitter NBA rumors that start anywhere outside of the Stein/Woj/Spears/newspaper/Hoopsworld class of reporters.

Was just going to post that. Damn you, Doc Holliday! I didn't want to be Billy Bob Thorton in this equation.
And to the news..... yeah!

Mavs are sandbagging on Scola. They want Scola. I don't know if they seriously wanted Brand with that bid.

Wow, very nice. Deron Williams might be regretting his decision to stay with the Nets sooner rather than later.
A front court of Dirk, Kaman, and Brand is going to be very different from all previous Dirk-era iterations of the Mavs. Should be interesting. I'm already looking forward to the season starting.

Why did I have to doubt this front office so soon? Why?
Honestly though obviously this team isn't exactly a world beater as currently constructed but I am very impressed by these recent moves. Praying the Mavericks can snag Courtney Lee or a nice shooter somehow.

I think a few people already owe the front office an apology.

2.1 actually sounds about right for an amnesty bid. But I figured the Mavs would play it safe by going up to 3 mil just to lock it in. Must have called around and figured that there weren't a lot of teams with cap that were bidding.

Yup. That's far better than I dared hope.
Looking forward to seeing what they do with their remaining cap space.

I was just talking to a friend about that - Deron chose Joe Johnson over the smartest front office in the league... Idiot.

Depends on how far you went. I think they botched the Tyson Chandler/Deron Williams situation. But I never called for Donnie to get fired or anything like that. I also repeatedly mentioned that the Mavs could very easily be better than they were last year.. and that was before Kaman signed.

Ding! Ding! Ding!
They can't lure FA's but that Donnie can wheel and deal with the best of them!

Still, bidding that low takes balls. Brand>current Chauncey. Even at double what he got Brand is one of the most capable backup 4-5's in the league

Well hey, I said it right when the season ended that a solid plan B could be just as good (I mentioned Dragic/Kaman so I at least got it half right). It's nice not having 17 million tied up with one player. The center position is now good for over 20 ppg. Who woulda thunk?

Yeah, tanking and lucking out on drafting Tim Duncan was a brilliant move... Or were you referring to their acquisition of Richard Jefferson a couple years back? But, yeah, I like how they've gotten better this offseason by doing absolutely nothing.
(sorry, but the Mavs get to be the smartest front office for a day...)

I don't know much about the place but they do have Larry Coon blogging there. He's answered a few of my salary cap questions in the past. I have a hard time seeing Coon working for a place with no rep, but who knows.

I estimate we still have about $4.4 million left under the cap. It seems like that should be enough to get a quality wing shooter, and maybe even someone like Courtney Lee or OJ Mayo. Then we'd still hopefully be able to bring back Delonte with the room exception.

Ah..just curious. I used to write for them back when I was big time into the NBA... I know a few people landed big time gigs from the hoopsworld springboard.. But, I knew the CBA pretty damn well back then and watched close to 200 NBA games a year.

Right. I don't think people owe "apologies" for not liking last summer's decisions. I don't agree with those people, but it's an issue within the realm of disagreement, for sure. I'm referring to people who went way, way too far talking about the FO this offseason post DWill.
