Predict the Mavs Regular Season Standing and Record (2012-13)
What are your predictions for the Mavs record this year, and how do you project the Western Conference standings? I'll start, expecting the Mavs to go 47-35 and finish seventh in the West.
1) Lakers
2) Spurs
3) Thunder
4) Nuggets
5) Clippers
6) Grizzlies
7) Mavericks
8) T-Wolves
I'm worried about this team's chemistry issues, given training camp injuries and the host of new players. Especially with Dirk out, I'm afraid we'll stumble out the gate. Much like Carlisle's first season with the Mavs where we started 2-7, I expect them to find their footing as the season goes along and surge near the end of the season.
I expect the Spurs to have another dominant regular season and the three teams at the top to be fighting for position for most of the season, with the Lakers' talent eventually propelling them ahead. I like what Iguodala and a full season with Chandler brings Denver. I expect the Blazers and Jazz to be the next two teams out of the playoffs.

The first games look like this team can build some confidence and grab some wins. If they drop a few of those ones, it will get really tough. It also remains to be seen when and how Dirk will come back... and the rest of the team can stay healthy (Brand, Kaman).
More questionmarks than answers so far.

*EDIT* This prediction removed on account of James Harden trade.

It's tough.. We haven't seen the trio of Brand, Kaman and Dirk ... It's difficult to pick a record..and don't know exactly how long Dirk will be out. I'd like to go with 50-32, but that's mainly because of the greatness of Dirk.

Breezy lil stroll thru reg seas. We can prolly pick up the other two wins if we roll out Dirk and Kaman at some point.
Or it's wayy to early seriously suggest a record.

cant predict win/loss but i think "IF" healthy they can grab the number 5 spot. i think they are better than memphis and denver. i know some might think im crazy but things happen for a reason. this team could be the second coming of the 2011 championship team.

Scratch my prediction above. Thunder suddenly trading Harden changes a lot.

How fked up can you be if you are not willing to sign a 4 year extension for 55 million dollar...
espn states that that is the amount of money okc offered harden but he wanted a max contract extension which is actually just 5 million more
i didn t like him before i knew that and now i dislike him even more because he showed the world his greedy face

Reminds me of the 04-05 season. After Nash walked many thought Dallas was done.... And the Mavs won 50+, and made the second round. And had it not been a brainfart by Terry on Nash's 3... Mavs could have made the WCFs.

That was one of the most memorable seasons for me. Dirk taking the next step, Howard becoming a legit player, and the promise of a new coach and his defensive intensity. And that first round series with Houston was pretty epic too.

Too hard to predict right now. Kaman healthy? Mayo good again? Collison better than expected? Dirk healthy? Curry not going to Mickey D's? Brand still has knees? Wright and Roddy healthy for more than a few games at a time? Crowder living up to the hype? Pretty much the only thing guaranteed right now is Marion being the Matrix as always.
The glass half full perspective of the Harden trade is that Mayo is every bit as talented. He just needs to wake up and smell the coffee to be that type of player.

I'm still quite high on this team. If they can stay healthy once Dirk returns (Somewhat big IF) I believe they are deep and talented enough to be formidable in the Western Conference. Harden getting traded actually severely weakens the Thunder IMO (Even though I didn't think tremendously high of his value as an individual player).

5) Spurs
6) Mavericks
7) Grizzlies
8) Utah

Sorry, but IMO it's crazy to put anybody but the Lakers, Spurs and Thunder in front of the Mavs.
To put the T-Wolves in front of the Mavs is utterly distgusting. You don't win games by outrebounding your own teammates.

I went with 50 because Dirk/Kaman/Brand will be damn good...but I may have been stretching...

Dirk/Caveman/Brand are excellent and I think betting on anything less than 50 would be foolish if they were all healthy with a young, athletic back-court around them.
The only thing that would make me shake my 50 game prediction is health. How many games will Dirk miss? Will he be the same Dirk when he comes back-- maybe even better with a solid knee to move on? Will Kaman ever stay healthy after, a back and a hamstring in his first two weeks with us?

50 is a good target but injuries and lack of Dirk to start make it tough.
