rumor: Mavs interested in Oden
http://hoopshype.com/rumors.htm
i dont know how he can fit in or even get playing minutes but hes a good shot blocking threat, and a liability due to his injuries.

It's likely not for this year (on-court anyway). But if he can get healthy again he's exactly the kind of paint presence you'd like to have next to Dirk. It'll be interesting to see how the bidding takes shape.

Mavs telling the young man, "hold your horses, we're interested, hear us out."
He's not playing this year. He's already said no summer league, nothign this year. Mavs can afford to give him a bit more than the Heat, but who knows what he wants, a ring, a check, or PT.

Not saying Brandon Roy has the same injury, but don't put all your marbles on this guy. Minny counted on Roy being their 2 guard this year and now they're left scrambling, then again, JJ ain't that bad.

Not one, not two, but THREE microfracture surgeries.

It's potentially a low-risk move, which is great. At the same time, you have to wonder if the Mavs are being realistic about his upside at this point. It's not high.

I think if I declared myself eligible for the nba the Mavs would consider me at this point.

I'd rather have Eddy Curry back.
And I would rather slam my head against a wall than have Curry back.

I'm all for it, depending on what he's looking for. Oden has been legitimately good when he's been on the floor. Not "franchise center" good, which everyone was expecting, but good enough that he'd absolutely justify extending yourself to see if you can help him get healthy.

I agree with the exception of everyone expecting him to be a franchise center

Well, yeah, not literally everyone. I was right there in the minority with you leading up to that draft.

to me, it's just a retread of the thought process when they where going for Brandon Roy. It's going for a guy with an obvious health history, but he could provide something at a position of need. The only issue is that Roy had much more of a proven track record within the league.
It's going to come down to offers him the security he thinks is best for him.
I don't have a problem going for him, within reason.

League is stacked with great centers now. Oden was good vs. Damp and Diop...
Nevertheless, when the price is right we should of course try to get him.

Every team is going to be interested in him if we're talking a couple of million dollars with only one year partially guaranteed. I'd be shocked if anyone offered him anything more than that, even if the upside is through the roof.

Teams just witnessed what can happen when you throw 10M into microfractured knees, so hopefully Oden is forced to ask for less.

The minority being...you should possibly be fired as a GM/owner if you draft Greg Oden over KD?
I was in that minority.

And I really don't think it is, not with the deterioration of his body.
Thig's right that his numbers were good when healthy, but I doubt we'll see those numbers ever again.

"Rumor" had better be the keyword here. Oden breaks down anytime he gets near a court. He's never going to be the player he briefly once was.
