GDT: New Orleans @ Dallas for the last time. 7 PM
The season will mercifully come to an end tonight. Let the rebuilding begin.

It's kinda weird to know in advance with absolute certainty the exact day on which the season will end. That hasn't been the case for so long (although surely we had a pretty good idea the morning of a few playoff elimination games where things were headed).

It is weird, but I'm not all too sad to see this season end. I mean, seriously, it ended with the coach taking a giant dump on the player that leads the team in minutes played. Sad and pathetic for everyone.
And you know what ol' Jack Burton says at a time like this? Screw it...just win the damn game and be done with it.

Well, not completely true. He did take a nice steamer on Mayo, but it was well deserved at this point. The last words have yet to be spoken, technically.
The most telling comments in Ricks post game was how he mentioned how much time they spent with him individually. I saw that as, "we have spent so much time with him individually trying to groom him and milk the best of his abilities and yet he is such a disappointment. With the ups and downs that he has gone thru, I'm glad there is only one more game." That's just my take on what I heard, and I know he doesn't like the lack of fire from him. He has little heart and emotion and I'm betting Rick would rather have JET. At least you know that he wears his heart on his sleeve and isn't afraid to put it all on the line. I'd be really surprised if he dawned a Mavs jersey next year, unless it was at such a low salary that one would be stupid NOT to sign him.

While it was aggressive at the time, I simply took it as a message a parent would send to their kid.

I hope they end the season at .500 at least. Would make a lot of sense with Dirk being out and signing like 9 different players.

Hey, I'm not saying OJ didn't deserve it...I'm one of his biggest haters. But the way Rick called him out rarely to never happens, regardless of coach's intentions. The point was that it kinda sums up a crummy season.

Threw away the game. Heh heh.
Apparently Mayo has an expiration date sometime before the all -star break of any given year.

I know it's the Hornets, but the Mavs played some nice defense in the 1st half with 6 steals, 3 blocks and 3 forced shot clock violations while giving up only 39 points on 39% shooting... Keep it up!

The play the Mavs are running are really telling. Everything for several minutes in the fourth quarter was nothing but a simple Vince/Wright/Nowitzki three man game with OJ and DC as decoys. A lot of it was stuff they ran with Tyson/Kidd/Dirk or Tyson/Jet/Dirk when those guys were here. Really apparent that this is to lay a bit of a foundation for next year with Wright/Vince/Nowitzki.
Everyone on the New Orleans bench was just shocked at that Nowitzki and-1. Anthony Davis with stunned disbelief at that make. Awesome.

Just shows that effort is what counts with these young guys. Collison is capable of this every night if he cared enough. Same with Mayo.

Didn't end with a losing record. Proud for the team not coasting through. Now time for the big summer plans to begin.

Mayo with 5 points (2-6 shooting), 2 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 turnovers in 30 minutes... What am I to make of this?

For just the second time in the past 13 years, the Mavs end the season with a win.
Cherish it.

He sucks?
I do think it's interesting that Rick calls out Mayo and Collison is the one who responds. I will give Collison this...you know what you get with him. He is a 12 pt, 5 assist pg...no more, no less. I could handle that as a back-up. He is at his best when being an energetic nuisance on the offensive end.

Collison is a good back-up...like JJ Barea.

JJB was better than Collison. Not even close. And Collison is more expensive.
I'd rather keep Roddy.

I think I disagree with this. I think JJ is a more dynamic scorer (though he is a pretty useless player when his shot isn't falling) but you know what to expect from Collison, who will also give you a handful of assists every night.

So the Mavs are the first team since the 80-81 Blazers to be 10 games under .500 at any point during a season and not finish with a losing record...

What an empty arena. If it were fan appreciation night, why not allow the upper levels down into the bowl and fill it out. Hundreds of seats available.
