Cavs are allready back in win now, V has almost a bargain contract for a big and they need an insurance for bynum. They wont trade him.
Even if we make the room for a max offer to Peko the Wolves would match. They dont want to piss off Love.
Its pretty much down to Gortat...

I still think Asik is going to get moved. However, I'm not real confident that we have a realistic chance of being involved in a trade for him.

I'd rather have Sarge than Haywood, Diop, Mullens etc.

Morey would love to cockblock Cuban, they would trade him somewhere else.
Okafor would be a solid fit but his salary this year makes a trade almost impossible. But i would take him next summer for small money

What really puzzles me is that Adams, Nogueira, Dieng, Plumlee & Gobert were available or near available when we pick not to say they will be playing immediately, but if the Mavs were gonna be in this pickle, why not start coaching and developing a future C?

I'd sign Brand and Blair. They are both built like small tanks, they'll get you a ton of rebounds, and their last names both start with the letter 'B'. It might be fun.

cuz sights on dwight or bynum. if they came they'd get all the shots and whatever minutes to handle at C. plus they didnt have caleron at that point or anyone else, so they went with their board, which was probably larkin as best available or best available at a need (realistically everything was a need other than SF/PF)
mavs have a bad habit of trying to spend. it'll catchup like the yankees. gotta develop the young'ens. this makes the larkin pick look really foolish to bury him behind all those vets. but of those guys mentioned i'd have taken dieng cuz he could play D and block, not sure about the rest, but he'd help initially at the very least.

Someone needs to gif Oden in a wheelchair with Cuban in a holographic image saying: "You are our only hope."

I don't think D.J. Mbenga has found a home yet. Or maybe he's playing overseas.

You honestly don't think we'll make the playoffs with our current squad? With Kaman out half the season, we were as deep as we are on paper now and even then we were about a game out of the playoffs and that was with Dirk out half the season.
I can see not being optimistic about beating OKC or SAS, but saying that this team doesn't make the playoffs is ludicrous. Dirk playing alongside four stiffs would MAKE the playoffs.

So
A) We passed on Bynum. It's worth noting that we weren't dumped. We passed. I'm pretty damn confident in Casey Smith so I think Bynum was a disaster to pass on. However, if Bynum takes off, we dumped Bynum. He didn't dump us, so we're at fault.
B) There aren't many FA centers, but there are a lot of centers available via trade.

Wow. Our entire backcourt is Calderon, Devin Harris, Gal Mekel, Shane Larkin, Ricky Ledo, Josh Akognon, and Wayne Ellington. Our only center is a 29 year-old second rounder from last year that's incredibly wet behind the ears. Dirk, Marion, and Carter are a combined 106 years old. This team would be lucky to compete for the 7 or 8 seed.

Wow, why don't you start following the Rockets. You are so goddamned negative about every single thing. Just quit your whining or choose a new team.

Cole Aldrich 32.1 reb rating, 11.3block rating, 56.3% TS%
Sam Dalembert 36.6 reb rating, 9.0block rating, 56.5% ts%
Elton Brand 28.2reb rating, 7.5block rating, 49.9% TS%
Brandan Wright 22.4 reb rating, 7.8 block rating, 60.6% TS%
Greg Oden
And then there are the guys on the block
Asik
Gortat
etc.

I'd be pretty surprised if, after the Mavs pick up another big body or two, we aren't in the thick of the playoff hunt, barring any major injury issues. I think Dirk and a bunch of average to below-average guys would still be competitive almost every night. If we added Gortat or especially Asik, I think we could finish as high as 4th or 5th this year without adding much more.
But we're clearly still at least one really big piece away from being much more than a 7th or 8th seed.

I certainly think it's possible, but I peg them as a 9 or 10 seed more likely.
I don't want to act like I know what's gonna happen, though. Maybe they mesh well and outperform my expectations.

I will say that I absolutely love Cole Aldrich's potential as a low-minutes bruiser in the middle. Is he a UFA right now? No reason not to give him a shot instead of Akognon or leaving the last roster spots open.

Nice. Time to awaken the Allfather.
Seriously, though, its a no-brainer to make some inquiries. He's probably done, but he's an impact center when healthy.

I hate Dalembert!
Please sign Pek, Gortat, Varejão or Asik!
And Oden for a backup.
If no possible, tank! This team looks terrible. I am very pessimistic.

If they passed on Bynum's health it seems unlikely we would pick up Oden. Which is unfortunate because I think they should. Maybe they might reconsider because he is worth a lot less.

Does it really? Why would any of those teams do that trade? If i remember correctly a lot of teams wanted to trade for Varejao last year, and Cleveland didn't want to trade him. He put up amazing numbers, surely they would more for him than an expiring contract.
Also, Pek just signed for 4/50 if i'm not mistaken, but even if that did not yet happen, can he be taken for an expiring? Obviously not. Maybe we could trade for Gortat, if we could offer future 1st's, but i think we can't at this point. Still, i guess his trade value has to be the lowest at this point amongst those.

Without trading, Dalembert is the best option. He can't be worse than Haywood starting in 2011/12 and we were still top 10 defensive team back then.

If you bring in Dalembert, Brand, and Blair you have two shot blockers (Daly and Wright) and two rugged rebounders (Brand and Blair). Its certainly not elite talent but its serviceable. I think at this point you hope to create exceptional team chemistry. Sign some guys that will work their butts off (not sure Daly falls into this category, but maybe RC can light a fire) and hope for the best.
Another idea would be to pass on Daly and sign AK-47. The Mavs would probably win fewer games but he would be a better trade asset somewhere down the line (Asik or Gortat).

I can understand why people are disappointed that we are getting Dalembert instead of Howard, but he isn't so terrible that we should be avoiding him.
His stats per 40 last season were 16.4ppg 14.4rpg 56.5aTS%
He just turned 32 in May and did this 5 months ago. http://youtu.be/38Sz3nEC4KI
He's not too bad. I'd love to somehow fit him and AK into our capspace (I'm dreaming) and then resign Brand at the Vet's Min and use Wright's early bird rights to get him lock up for 4 years.
Dalembert Wright
Dirk AK Brand
Marion Crowder
Harris Carter
Calderon Larkin/Mekel
I'd love to use Dirk/AK/Marion against smaller teams and use Dalembert versus the big ones. I really just want entertaining basketball and AK is entertaining. Dalembert is a good productive center.

Oden is way cheaper and his health issues won't break the mavs chances of a playoff run but it could be a cheap way to have a 3 headed center oden, Wright, brand
