Well that is why we have one of the better backups in the league.

Great. If the Cowboys win they get New Orleans in the first round. New Orleans might score 60 on the Cowboys.

Gee, who could have ever guessed that the Cowboys would go 8-8?

There are some really good looking tight ends this year in the first round in Sefarian-Jenkins, Amaro, and Ebron.

2011: 8-8
2012: 8-8
2013: 8-8
Is anyone surprised that Jason Garrett's vanilla coaching style breeds vanilla results?
Par for course for Jerry Jones, though - the Cowboys are 136-136 since 1997.

I agree, but there was something about Sunday's game that bothered me. Despite the three turnovers, which obviously lost the game for Dallas, the offense looked different. It looked smoother. There was rhythm. The ball wasn't snapped with :01 on the play clock every single g-d down. There's nothing Orton did in that game that Romo couldn't do. So why hasn't the offense looked like that the whole season? Why can Garrett put together an offense that works for Kyle Orton and not one that works for Tony Romo?

I got the same feeling. Maybe it's too much tinkering in the game. With Orton, they knew they had about a week's worth of stuff to focus on. It'd be interesting to know (1) if the playbook was condensed to a smaller/simpler set and (2) if Orton was changing/calling plays at the line.
I wonder if we'd get farther with less Vizzini and more HulkSmash.

I'm not sure how much Garrett's game plan had to do with anything, but Orton had nothing to lose... Also, the TEAM needed a win, and it seemed like everyone individually made the decision to step up their game.
What I don't understand is how Garrett can come up with an offense that scores 48 points against a solid (at the time) Denver defense, then revert back to his vanilla, low-octane scheme for the rest of the season... I mean, you know your defense is your achilles heel, so why not come out shooting EVERY game?
