Mavs still need a back up power forward and shooting guard. How about trading Wright for Scola and signing Mo Williams for the exception:
Chandler/Smith/Sarge
Dirk/Scola
Parsons/Jae
Monta/Mo
Harris/Felton/Mekel
Add another 1 to 3 guys, if you can find someone out of the summer league or for the minimum to fill the roster out.

@ESPNSteinLine: USA Basketball just confirmed Chandler Parsons' addition to upcoming Vegas training camp along w/ Toronto's DeMar DeRozan
@BallinWithBryan: Coach K on Chandler Parsons: "His versatility is a huge strength. He’s one of the most intelligent players in the league."

Can't express how much I love hearing that from such a respected Hoop Brain.

I can't see him being worth more than that these days. Not really sure how much he has left in the tank.

He can still be pretty crafty offensive threat. Last I saw anyway.

Heh, you quoted me before my edit - Parsons is joining Team USA.
When is the last time a Maverick was part of that team? Obviously Dirk played for Germany, but I can't remember the last Mav who played for America...

Scola has one more year left at about $5 million--matches Wright almost exactly. At this point in their careers, Wright is probably more valuable, but Dallas needs a power forward, not a fourth center.
More than that, Dallas needs a stretch four so that the entire offense doesn't have to change when Dirk is out. No doubt Parsons will play the four some, but Scola has a high basketball IQ and probably enough left to play the 8-10 minutes per game that the Mavs need.
I can't think of any other options that fit for a trade. Of course you could fill the hole at the 2 with a trade and then sign someone for back up PF with the exception.

Scola was digging his team out of holes throughout the playoffs. EDIT: Went and checked his playoff games, and there were about 6 games where he played really well. Hes solid and worth about 4m
Avg 17 minutes last season
7.6 pts
4.8 reb
EDITII: Really think Im just remembering a few games where Pacers offense went completely dry(which happens nightly) and Scola would make a few shots here and there to keep them afloat.

That's right - we first started getting hyped about Chandler during his stint with Team USA.

Playing for Team USA is huge. Players generally come back playing at a higher level (witnessing how guys like Kobe/LeBron/Durant practice, eat and go about their day).

I would rather keep Wright than have Scola, I think Wright is more of a 4 than a 5.
We need Mo as he can backup the 1 and 2 positions.

Dirk was a generational talent. That body-coordination and shooting touch in a 7 footer was never seen before him. He was close to a 90% free throw shooter at 19 in the German league if i remember correctly. He had elite size, elite coordination, and elite shooting touch from the get go. Do you see a single elite trait in Parsons, let it by physical or skill? Because i don't.
He is a jack of all trades, master of none, a very good player, borderline all-star, definitely, our next franchise cornerstone though? Definitely not. And that's not even negativity on my part, just simple realism.
Chandler has a good shot, good size (which is not elite because of his wingspan), he is a good defender, a good shooter, a good scorer and a good passer. He does literally everything well to very well, but he's really not great at anything.

Actually our upgrades in both the small forward and center positions do that. Yes, we did take a step back in the point guard position, but it's not nearly as noticeable as big as our leaps forward in the others... especially if we add Mo Williams.
Let's look at the players who have been added along with those who are gone from last season.
New: Chandler Parsons, Tyson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Richard Jefferson, Greg Smith
Old: Dirk Nowitzki, Monta Ellis, Devin Harris, Brandan Wright, Jae Crowder, Gal Mekel, Ricky Ledo
Gone: Jose Calderon, Samuel Dalembert, Wayne Ellington, Vince Carter, DeJuan Blair, Shane Larkin
Likely gone: Shawn Marion
Likely returning: Bernard James

I love the changes we made to our starting 5 but I'm still worried about the bench. VC was huge for us last year not only with his play but his attitude. I don't think our bench is going to have a true leader like Vince was or Ginobili for SA. This is an area where Harris can really step up his game.

VC and Blair are the only 2 guys im really going to miss on the court. Ill miss Marion but in a he's done so much for this franchise kind of way.

Leadership is perhaps our only weakness with this current roster. Our bench is better than it's been in ages, but not a lot of veteran leadership. Still, I bet Harris/Wrighjt play a lot of the backup minutes and they have excellent chemistry.
Also, Carlisle never just takes 5 starters out and throws 5 backups in. The backup squad will probably have a lot of Harris/Parsons in it.

Really hope we can bring Mo Williams in.
Avg 4 assists, 44% from 2's, 37% from 3's over 24mpg. And he'll have other guys on the bench unlike Portland.

Dallas could really use one more guy they can trust to show up to camp in shape, play the point at an NBA level, and knock down a jumper. I think it's their biggest need right now, and while Mo's no great prize, he is a credible rotation guard for a playoff-caliber team, and he fits the need as well as any FA left out there.

I'd think TC steps in and really fills in for what Marion and Carter brought. Marion was soft-spoken and more walk the walk with his leadership.

Scola was a terrific value at one point in his career, but he's fairy old and has fallen off the cliff. I'd take him for the vet min (which he won't take). Otherwise, no thanks.

@BallinWithBryan: Cuban said the other day that he knows what he would do in Houston’s shoes but wouldn't answer. Today? “I would have matched."
