Even At 40%, that'd Take abOut 33,500 attempts
If you played 16 full seasons and played every game, you'd have to take 25 shots per game. Injuries or lockouts would make you play more seasons or more attempts per night.
Whoa.

I wonder how long Dirk would have to play, maintaining his career attempts per game and FG percentage, to miss as many as Kobe. Til he's 45?

If Kobe were to retire before his next game:
Dirk is currently 3,204 misses behind (13,421 vs. 10,217)
If Dirk continued to shoot 47.7% (his career avg) and 18 FGA - he'd miss 8.7 shots per game and it would take him 369 more games, 4.5 more seasons if he played all 82 games of every season
So he'd catch up to Kobe in about Feb of 2018 (game 33 of the 2017-2018 season), at which point Dirk would be 39 years old
If Dirk continued at this year's rate of 52.9% of 15 FGA, he'd miss only 7 FGA per game, it'd take him 458 games to make up the difference or 5.6 full seasons shooting 15 FGA. In which case, it'd take him until game 16 of the 2019-2020 season-- or about February of 2020 when Dirk would be 41 years old.
If Kobe finishes his contract (this year and next) shooting the same FGA/percentage
Kobe is shooting 39.3% and 24 FGA per game, missing 14.6 shots per game. If he only finishes this year and next and plays all 82 games of each (and then immediately retires instead of becoming a backup somewhere else), he'll add 2,292 misses to his record, leaving him thousands of shots ahead of every other basketball player to ever live at 15,713.
At even the most conservative rate of Dirk shooting 47.7% on 18 FGA, it'd take Dirk 637 games to get there, or 7.7 full seasons or March of 2022. At which time, Dirk would be a very tired 43 years old (almost 44)

Thanks for doing the research/math on that!
Truly amazing how efficient Dirk is.

Blazers put up 84 points in the first half of their 130-113 win against Denver.
Lillard tore it up with 27 points, 9 assists, 5 reb.

Kobe is the most overhyped media superstar in NBA history. Could not do anything without other superstars coming to the rescue.

Houston barely pulls one out against 76ers by one point.
Suns drop a game at home to the Hornets.

ugh - Kobe's field goal percentage in this loss to spurs: 1-14, 7.1%
And Lakers' team only took twelve 3-point shots making 2 for 16.7%

Kobe is currently:
126th out of 131 ranked players in FG%
403 out of 404 ranked players in +/-
3rd in points
Keep being you, Kobe.

All you need to know:
Lakers: 329/751 = 43.8%
Kobe: 77/210 = 36.7%
Rest of team: 252/541 = 46.58%
League average: 286/638 = 44.9%
Without Kobe's shooting, Lakers would be the 10th best shooting team in the league, instead they are 22nd.

Don't look now but the Bucks might be the best defense in the league. Getting Larry Sanders back was just crucial for them.

Kobe wont waste his last years trying to be a Teamplayer for one of the worst teams in the league. He has always been an EGO even with great teammates.
He couldnt care less about Wins right now. He is only playing for his records and stats the years until he retires

So I'm curious what happened?
-- did he get the call
-- was he mercilessly ridiculed by announcers.
-- If he doesn't get a flopping penalty they might as well forget it.
I assume this was a recent warriors game, any idea when it occurred? I would like to hear the announcers on it.
http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.c...ary-flop-vine/
I found it. It was when the game is 0-0 so he got it out of the way early. And he did get the call.
So I watched the Charlotte feed and no comment. Lance even went over to the bench to make sure he didn't cut himself and play was stopped.
Golden state feed.. -- they caught it, just called it odd..
Also the Warriors wear those jerseys with sleeves. I'm wondering if that would drive the dirkster mad, how would he tug on the corner? Maybe he would just keep pushing the sleeve up. Heh

It's early. Just wait until like 25 games into the season when they start trucking people.

I don't agree with that at all. I think he hates losing and wants more than anything to prove his critics wrong. He's just too delusional to realize that he's not good enough to carry a team by himself anymore.

Really nice pictures from Brooklyn last night when Knight missed that game-winning layup.
OJ Mayo grabbing the guy and Kidd smiling and telling him it's okay. Pretty much everybody was smiling in disbelief and embracing the entertainment factor of that mistake.

They did a really nice job of lifting him up, and a succesful one too. He hit the game-tying three at the end of the 2nd OT and put the game away on freebies in the 3rd OT.
So I'm sure he can laugh about it now, and at the end of the day his botched layup was still a +possession, as it started with a critical crunchtime-steal.

I'll give you Asik, but I'd argue that Howard and Harden are more of a malcontent than anybody else was, although it's understandable that you don't want them out of the lockerroom as long as there isn't equal talent coming back.
For the first part of your post, that's just funny reading it now with a few more games down the pipe. Still appreciate you stopping by here and giving your view on things, though.
Now the Mavs better step up and beat those Lakers after you guys let them go on a win-streak!

Remember a year ago when he signed for that seemingly really cheap three-year contact and everyone thought it was a huge conspiracy? Turns out two pretty good coaches both didn't think he was very useful.

Cavs overall terrible...no defense, no ball movement and a horrible horrible body language. Waiters absolut trashy, two times ignoring a 2:1 or 3:1 on a fastbreak.
I wouldnt be surprised if Love pulls a Dwight and dont re-sign there...rofl

Lakers lose in OT to Nuggets 101-94 (why do I enjoy this so much?)
Lakers finished 3-for-24 on 3s @ 12.5%

What's going on with the clippers? They have to be the surprise disappointment this year. I don't think anyone is out. Do they miss collison that much?

He is one of the few guys of the last few years that didn't work under Carlisle but was still decent. He was good for the Clippers and is doing very well for Sacramento. I mean, he's better than Jameer Nelson.
