As grown up in Alabama and a big Bama fan, this is saddening. I mean the ball program has been bad for awhile so I guess what's the big deal. But I have a strong disliking for Johnson. Maybe he'll do better in college but I'm not banking on it.

Honestly, I can't stand Alabama. This is a great signing as far as I'm concerned. Idiot coach to Alabama.. I can live with that.

I was very very anti Avery Johnson even from when he was still just Don's assistant. But I do think it's possible his coaching style will translate better at the college level. He's likely going to keep treating players like babies and not like adults, so may as well coach younger players, I suppose.

I ranted and railed against Avery as much as anyone during his tenure here, but I agree with dirt dobbler and bunk that he could be a fine college coach. And since he's not in the NBA, and never coaching against the Mavs, I can actually root for him to succeed. If he had gotten an NBA coaching job again, it would just be pure schadenfreude for me as he would inevitably crash and burn.
