If you are a Houston Rockets fan and have joined this board to troll during the playoffs, I'm afraid you are sorely mistaken. Here's a bright-line rule: If your join date is April 2015 and you are a Rockets fan--whether apparent from the content of your posts, your username, or the location of your IP--you will be immediately banned. No exceptions.

The (few) Rockets fans who have been here since before April 2015 may continue to post, but I'd urge you to be judicious in doing so. Passive-aggressive trash talk may not net you a ban, but it's not a good look for you.

Why dont you guys enable Admin Approval for new users during the next weeks? Ban those Rockettes before they can even post and legit fans just need to wait some more hours before they can post, you can usually spot those trolls by their usernames.

I would bet most Rocket fans are ashamed of the trolls that come here to brag and post obnoxious drivel after 1 playoff win. It sets the good fans they have up for an even bigger headache if their team ends up losing. Just ignore the few bad eggs who come here trolling until they get banned(try not to feed them). I'd bet those same trolls who are coming here are unwelcome by many on CF as well. Then again I'm basing that solely on the fact that I would hate people like that here.

You're right. I go to a lot of message boards. Mostly to read and learn about other teams views. It's hard to bite you're tongue sometimes when you see hate towards your team or fan base but at the end we're all a bunch of randoms on the net talking about stuff we have no control over. It's really not that crucial to talk junk or troll on the Internet.

This is absolutely true. Trolls like this don't represent the true fans, just like I'm sure the few bad eggs you guys have don't represent yours. The ones bragging about it on CF are rightly getting called out by the vets. Sadly every team has them. I'm too damn old now for the trolling nonsense.

I think you are giving that fan base WAAAAAY too much credit.

Most of their fans think Harden is getting good calls on every foul (and in fact complain about the fouls he DOESN'T get). They are generally ignorant of the NBA in general and think every lopsided trade that anyone proposes should happen. And they have 50 excuses why they haven't won in forever - hell they still call themselves Clutch City after a decade of choking.

Houston fans are dumb.

Now compare them to Spur fans. They are generally know the NBA - a significant portion of them know international ball. They complain less than any fan base I've ever run across about fouls and they know that Ginobelli and Duncan are masters of flopping. The only thing that gets them going is insecurity about their city

As a diehard MFFL since '87, I've dealt with plenty trash talk over the years... especially the dark years... and you know what? I took that shit like a champ... all of it. So to be honest LonghornDub, I think that's pretty weak to ban someone just because they're trolling us Mavs fans and talking trash. That's kinda like losing in a pickup game and taking your ball home so the other kids can't play. Trash talk is what makes rivalries special... right? So after we win game 3, let's all go over to the houston board and troll them!

There is a world of difference between a "rivalry" type of discussion and what those attention starved Houston fans do. Posting across as many threads as possible(necro-bumping some) as fast as you can with nothing but photo-shopped mavs pics for starters. Banning something like that doesn't take away from a rivalry.

Also it's a stretch to call Houston a rival. They have been largely irrelevant for years. Winning a playoff game in the first round of the playoffs is worthy of celebration for most of them. Winning round 1 wouldn't mean crap for us, much less a game.

I think a throw-down thread is quite interesting though.

I see no value in letting Houston trolls post crap here. Majority of them would likely be from Clutchfans where most of those posters/fans shouldn't be allowed near a keyboard.

There are plenty of boards, both Mavs and non, where you are welcome to get your fill of trash talk from opposing fans. That's not how we operate here. Most of our members don't enjoy it, particularly in the GDTs. In fact, as you can see anecdotally from this thread, some of our long-time members have left the board in the past because they were tired of trolls. The mods and I care about our contributing members (notice that I said "contributing") exponentially more than whether opposing trolls think we're unwelcoming.

No, it's not like "losing in a pick up game." That suggests this rule has something to do with the series's outcome. It doesn't. It would be the rule if the Mavs were about to sweep. And if you think trash talk with Internet trolls who say nothing of substance is "what makes rivalries special," I kind of feel bad for you.

Besides that, opposing fans are welcome here most of the time. This is a special circumstance. I appreciate your concerns, but this is how it's gonna be.

That one person was Erica Lubarsky, your thought policeman-in-chief. If you can't take valid criticism, then I think you need to get over yourself. The Mavs are a great franchise, but its owner is not infallible. And its fans are often wrong, just like any other franchise.
