I honestly think JaVale has Brandon Wright type of potential. Remember what a loser and a complete bust he was before the Mavs rescued him? If JaVale put a considerable amount of time in on watching film and studying his strengths ans weaknesses (and those of his opponents) there's no reason he couldn't eventually turn into a productive backup.
The problem is, to this point of his career, he really hasn't exhibited a willingness to improve his instincts or study his opponents' tendencies. He's just been a freakish athlete and has relied on that to get him to where he was before his injuries. And I'm just not very interested in that guy.

Wright's problems were physical. He was tiny and always injured.
He got mostly healthy for us, but we found a role (6th/7th man) that didn't require bulk.
McGee's problems are between his ears. Not going to fix low BBIQ or crazy. He's also injured, but even if/when he gets healthy, he'll still be a crazy bonehead

McGee is the best option if he's healthy. Bottom line is that the Mavs are not competing for a championship and our center is going to be a rotation no matter who we get. So do you want an experienced player that is stupid sick athletically while being a knucklehead or do you want some dude that you've never heard of that might make a D-league team somewhere?
Just be prepared for the Mavs to be on Shaqtin-A-Fool consistently.

I wouldn't go that far to call McGee experienced player. I mean, he has been playing for a long time but his on-court actions often doesn't resemble anything experienced and he has hard time to fight for starter minutes. Besides, he seems to have a high opinion of himself much like Rondo.

I like the move. Athletic 7 footers dont grown on trees. Give him a shot in training camp. See what happens.

Here's the chance for McGee to redeem himself. Him, ZaZA, and dalembert on the side sounds very interesting.

Team option is great. Last year he refused all but a one year deal. If he blows up this year and goes for 10-9 with some good effort, we keep him for the min. If he's the knucklehead that he's always been, then we dump him.

The team option 2nd year makes me really like this. It does make me wonder just how he is medically that he was willing to take a TO but glad we signed him regardless.

Deron Williams / Jose Juan Barea / Raymond Felton
Wesley Matthews / Devin Harris / John Jenkins
Chandler Parsons / Jeremy Evans / Justin Anderson
Dirk Nowitzki / Charlie Villanueva / Dwight Powell
Zaza Pachulia / Samuel Dalembert / JaVale McGee
Unless something crazy happens this is our likely team. Hopefuls are Salah Mejri, Jarrid Famous, Maurice Ndour, Brandon Ashley, and Jamil Wilson. Devin Harris could shift to point guard if the Mavs part ways with Raymond Felton, and Justin Anderson could move to shooting guard to pave way for Maurice Ndour at small forward. Unless McGee has serious health concerns I don't see there being an opportunity for either Mejri or Famous. I hope Brandon Ashley and Jamil Wilson find spots on the Texas Legends roster.

If healthy, i think the center rotation actually goes like this:
JaVale McGee / Zaza Pachulia / Samuel Dalembert

I think you remember the "up and comer" McGee from 3-5 years ago. It's been a downward spiral since then.

I hope he is right. Imagine if his career has the same thing happen to it in Dallas as Brandan Wright but maybe even better since the ceiling is actually even higher for him. I'm pretty excited about this rotation. We weren't guaranteed a championship with the man with the name that should not be mentioned. I think the Mavs were actually bailed out of a bad situation. His free throw shooting sucks, and we likely were not going to end up with Deron WIlliams either. I think that center needs someone like him or CP3 passing him the ball. He'd be the best center this team has had, but he wouldn't dominate like Shaq did in L.A.

I must add that we cannot have this athletic freak in our starting lineup because that would ruin our lack of athleticism in our starting five. We are striving for high basketball IQ and a lack of mistakes. I think Zaza is still our #1 man with that being said.
Any predictions for the starting lineup when the regular season begins with injuries to Wesley Matthews (thanks Rondo!) and Chandler Parsons? I say Devin Harris gets the 2 spot, but I am not so sure that Jeremy Evans is getting the early nod for the starting role at small forward. I think it all depends on how well our rookie plays in the preseason.

As expected, he chooses Dallas. Thought bit surprise his agent didn't push for the same deal Aminu had w us. 2yr vet min, PO. Plenty glad for it though. A three headed center rotation bodes well and is an excellent recovery by the FO to attempt to still be competitive w Dirk still around. For those unhappy w this, I say: gatter ye rosebuds while ye may. Enjoy these years of us trying to make some kinda moves to be competitive

Done deal. Dirk just mentioned me first when discussing the center position. Die deutschen Groß hat gesprochen! *mic drop*

I didn't see the exact quote but RC had sad something to the effect of Wes being ready by December, I was in and out of the room and when I tried to back it up the whole stream froze and sped up to real time. Parsons has a shot to be ready for opener though.

JaVale McGee isn't likely to be ready for start of season. With partially guaranteed deal, roster spot depends on how much others impress.

I've got some breaking news for Macman: the team said they're holding me back so I don't get re-injured because no one wants an injured starting center. Check the tape at the 9:10 mark. Tape don't lie!
Seriously, someone left me a fortune cookie in my shoe today. It said "Start of season or season of starts. You decide."
I bet it was Dirk. Or Rick.

@espn_macmahon: Rick Carlisle says Sam Dalembert needs to get in better shape. Not a great sign for a guy with chance to compete for starting job.
