I have hope McGee gets inspired to use his athleticism with the Mavs. That's IF... Deron gets back on track with his health and assist numbers. Not to mention the way Carlisle can try and establish him for the talent he has. But it's really mental for McGee. IF he can mentally get motivated to be the most underrated center.

This guys terrible posts pretending to be Javale has effectively destroyed any hopes I have of the real player being anything but a clown.

Not sure what one has to do with the other... What were your expectations before he started posting?

Haha, well I don't know... I guess at some point you take being a professional a little bit seriously and put in hard work and try to realize your potential. I was hoping that being around veterans and solid coaching would help motivate him to be the best center ever. But now after McGeebers posts, I can't..I just can't imagine it will ever happen.

Any guesses JaVale already started his film productions?
Heads up... McGee is followed by Kevin Love and Dirk the Painter

Doesn't that article sound like speculation more than any basis in fact? From Rick's quote, it sounds to me like he's in if he doesn't regress/otherwise screw up.

Agreed, I was just trying to get a rise out of McGeeber.

It'll likely be Daly who gets the cut IMO. McGee at least possesses some youth and the ability to be a double-double guy when healthy. Plus, you can always bring Dalembert back if (and probably when) McGee gets injured again.

I really hope that happens for him because it'll give him a chance to break Nat Hickey's record.

Now it's all about
Quote:

The Mavericks’ center said Monday he’s planning on practicing with the team for the first time this season - if they can squeeze in a workout session at some point during this game-heavy portion of the schedule.
...
“We haven’t practiced a lot, so I don’t know if I’m able to practice yet,” McGee said. “We’ve had so many games back to back. It (the leg) feels real good. But it doesn’t matter how you feel walking around, it matters how you feel when you have people around you and getting contact.”
McGee said his game plan is to participate whenever the next full-scale practice comes. But until that happens, he won’t know how close he is to making his season debut.

Won't be many minutes available as a third stringer.

Nah McGee will stick around. He's cheap and we're one Zaza injury away from being totally screwed.
Hope we see him soon.

So we are looking at December before he can play and January before he's injured again?

I am so happy with what Zaza and Powell are doing that I wonder if I want to see McGee get any minutes. If Rick is happy with what he sees from him in practice though I am all for it. I just want Rick to be the man who gives him the green light. I doubt anyone can actually pressure him into playing him though. It's a good thing that Carlisle is so respected here in Dallas and has full control of his team.
Also I doubt he'll be injured so soon again here in Dallas. They'll definitely ease him back into the game. We've seen how they've taken their time with getting Parsons back into the mix. Also they rested Williams and Matthews in a back-to-back situation. JaVale is lucky to be here in this situation. He'll have time to heal and potentially shine when he is ready.

McGee would allow Powell to play more at the 4, which is where he's most effective.

Is he? He plays so little 4 that I'm curious to see the advanced numbers on it.

The eye test tells me he's best suited to at forward, but he's played almost exclusively at the 5 out of necessity.

I mean, he's 6'11 and 240 which is pretty common to play center these days. Wright is 6'10 and and 210 and hardly ever played PF for us. Powell is a good opposite of Zaza which is why it has worked so well.

I'm pretty sure Carlisle wants Powell to play the 4. No other reason to have him working on his outside shooting. Also, no reason to keep Mejri if Powell is gonna be playing the 5 even when Javale returns.

Wright got pushed around against 4's and 5's. McGee is a much bigger and stronger player with similar hops.

8 points (4-5) and 6 rebounds in 11 minutes isn't a bad debut... Of course, 0-2 FT and 2 TOs wasn't good, but his energy was encouraging tonight.

I'm really not for this if it means Powell gets less than 15 minutes every night.

This is what I was talking about...
But I did like what I saw in terms of him replacing Wright - I hope people quit hoping to get Wright back. I'd rather have McGee than Wright.
McGee's defense was quite awful in terms of blocking shots and most importantly, boxing out. But hey, it's only his first game back and we'll see how he develops. I didn't see any indication of him being smarter than before coming to Dallas but perhaps being surrounded by veterans and getting some playing time will help him improve his game. I do believe that Zaza could help mentor him but there is a major IF - if he really is willing to learn.
I also saw him walking past the half court when Mavs were on the offense... I get it that his coming back from injury but if he's doing that while being 100%, then he's got to go.
I feel weird by saying this but I do hope Kevin McHale ends up in Dallas to mentor McGee and Powell. However, it didn't look like he did such a good job with D12 or D-Mo. Perhaps Thibodeau would be better served as an assistant coach.
BUT there is a concern in terms of McGee getting minutes from Powell. I firmly think that Mavs should see Powell as their future and give him 20+ minutes a game. This being such a tight game JaVale got way too much playing time, at least some of his minutes should've gone to CharlieV who was hot.
Managing minutes in this Mavs team is going to be crazy to watch.

McGee said after the game that he was winded after being out so long. So I'll chalk his lack of blocking out and hustling to that. Offensively, he looked promising.
Also, I think Powell's lack of minutes is more due to Dirk getting an unusually high 34 minutes than it was giving McGee 10 1/2 minutes.

Unusually high 34 minutes? Dirk's average over last 4 games is 33 minutes. Nothing unusual there.
The three games before OKC, Powell averaged 24 minutes per game.

You say that, but two more dunks and we would have won the game.
Just gotta get back into starter shape now!
