Mavs Free Agency Rumors: Mike Conley (NOPE)
@espn_macmahon: For Memphis to keep Mike Conley, the Grizzlies would have to commit to a five-year contract for the top point guard available in the free agency market, sources told ESPN.com. The fifth year, which only the Grizzlies can offer Conley, would be worth more than $33 million on a max contract.
A source said the Spurs and Mavericks are among the other teams that would interest Conley, who intends to explore his options in free agency. The Spurs would have to answer questions about how Conley would fit with Tony Parker, according to the source, who said that Conley has great respect for Dallas coach Rick Carlisle.
The Knicks and Pacers would have been attractive to Conley, an Indianapolis native, but those two teams addressed their needs at point guards with trades today.

@espn_macmahon: Source: Mike Conley's respect for Rick Carlisle gives Mavs a shot at top PG in free agency.

Max out Conley and Whiteside. Buy a late first. Resign Parsons and Dirk.
Conley - Barea
Wes - Harris - #46
Parsons - Anderson
Dirk - late first - Charlie V. - Jeremy Evans
Whiteside - Mejri - McGee
Pipe dream.

We can't even get to the draft before I completely get my hopes up. Hope deron doesn't run off if Conley falls through.

I like your line of thinking, but you have to pick 2/3 of Conley, Whiteside and Parsons, and that's assuming Dirk possibly takes the league minimum if you max those other two guys out. Pretty complicated salary cap gymnastics.
If I had to choose two out of those three, I'd probably lean towards Parsons and Whiteside, but I also really like Conley. It's just a big question mark with him returning from a ruptured Achilles. I don't know his game well enough to know if Conley at 85% of what he was is a big enough improvement over Deron to justify 4yrs/$90M instead of closer to 4yrs/$45M.

Can we go over the cap to resign Parsons? Not entirely sure how all that works.

So we are being used as leverage in the Conley negotiations? Or is the interest legit? If it is then throw the max at him. Unless they think they have a legit shot at Bledsoe/Tyson trade.

Conley is such a long shot. Refuse to get my hopes up. Focus on the center position because we don't have room to max 3 guys

Do we need a max center, or just a center? No reason to think Conley is any tougher to get than Dwight or Whiteside -- especially since neither of those two have publicly expressed any interest in the Mavs.

I think Conley is harder to get than Dwight, and I'm not in the Whiteside camp. I think most would be disappointed to start the season with a Ian Mahmini type. I dont trust Noah with his injuries. If it's between a max center and a max pg, for the mavs needs, I'm going max center.

Conley is a better player and gives you twice as much games..
Seriously, how many games you think Deron will be healthy for during the next years? 200? Add to this the normale age declining and its an easy choice. And having Conley instead of Deron under contract gives you better chances to attract another FA next summer when the cap again skyrocks...

Better than Goran Dragic. It's not realistic for the Mavs to get any of the top 5 guys so I think it's a good move.

Conley has respect for Carlisle because he is a guy who would work great under coach. Plays defense and doesn't turn it over are two very likable Carlisle qualities.
Especially if Conley can get back to a near elite defensive form. The Mavs have a real shot this summer to put together a squad with a defensive identity.

Not sure if legit but on twitter a source said the mavs are trying to pitch "shared sacrifice" which is complete bull and not how you get a free agent. We know Parsons and Deon aren't going for the pitch. Dirk is the only guy sacrificing money.

@fishsports: Source tells me big part of #Mavs pitch to Conley is Carlisle/Dirk-led 'Shared Sacrifice' ideal; totally fits Conley's style. @1053thefan

I honestly hadn't looked it up when I guess that. Just sounds like something he'd say/report.

Fish just made a forum post entitled "I Think"
i think mavs won't max CP.
i think If he says goodbye, Mavs try for Conley AND Hassan. (I know, I know. It'll never happen. But that's what they'll do)
i think theyll also quickly look back at Nic Batum - though they would need to move fast there
i think what changed? Dirk changed. Shared Sacrifice. Who wants in?
i know A. Moultrie was FA camp standout.
i know I'll have top 3 Names at 46 in the morning.

Its bs anyway but if Conley is going for the pitch and may take some less we dont need Deron "going" for it because he wont wear a Mavs jersey anymore.
Whiteside shouldnt take a discount. He has his first big payday at age 27, who knows what contract he would get in four years. Ask and take the max, i wont hold it against him.

If the past is any indication, we'll miss out on Parsons, Conley, Whiteside, and Dwight. We'll overpay Deron and Barnes out of desperation. And then we'll have to settle for Roy Hibbert at center.

That would be putrid offensively but an absolute juggernaut on defense.
And I seem to be one of the few who to thinks Anderson could start at SF from day one next season.

I don't think it would be that bad on offense. 1-4 can hit outside shots opening up things for Whiteside... not to mention the Dirk effect. I just want us to have an identity so I would happily take that.

If Grizz are willing to give Conley that 5th year for 33m I think he's much more of a pipe dream than Whiteside who has no such 5th year.

The Grizz just drafted a PG at #17... Maybe that's an indication of how they think free agency will shake out, maybe it isn't. Obviously they can offer that 5th year that nobody else can, but I also wouldn't be surprised if Conley might just need a change of scenery after being with a team for so long that seems to be backsliding in recent years.
Really, all I based my last post on was the fact that the word "Dallas" has come out of Mike Conley's camp, but Whiteside and Howard have yet to name us publicly... And in the case of Howard, our FO has even said he won't be getting max here, so I think he's the longest shot of the three.
