Hopefully this year they will use them to get Barnes some practice in his bigger role.

I see a little of Parsons style in his shot with the slow release, and maybe a tiny tiny bit of Juwan Howard. But No Shawn Marion lol, He gets to the peak of his jump almost every single time when he releases. To me it looks like a reversed Kevin Martin. Pulls up from opposite direction but at least everytime he releases it's lined up really well.

These are the highlights, though.

Simply replacing Zaza with Bogut is a huge upgrade. Replacing Parsons with anything is an upgrade (and Barnes is pretty darn solid even if he's not a defensive star)

@espn_macmahon: The Mavs filled their final camp roster spot by signing C.J. Williams, a former North Carolina State guard who played in France last season.

Could be a top 3 team on defense. Let's hope our offense will be OK.
I really like this roster.
PG: Deron
SG: Wesley
SF: Barnes
PF: Dirk
C: Bogut
Justin
JJB
Powell
Mejri
Acy
Curry
Devin
Most balanced since 2011. With a 32yo Dirk we could be a serious contender.

Earl K Sneed: Rick Carlisle on Quincy Acy: “We have some physical guys, but every team wants to have a bunch of ass-kickers. He’s an ass-kicker.”

Id say his ability to create was there because of his size and versatility. But it was never consistent, and I wouldnt call it amazing either.

Meh Barnes.... He looks to have lost a ton of confidence. He's not very dangerous even if his shot is falling. He can't penetrate and doesn't have great handles so there is nothing for defenders to fear if his shot isn't falling.
We have NO One in the starting lineup aside from Deron that can penetrate and that's gonna be a glaring issue that seperates us from the elite all season and more so into the playoffs.
At this point Simba is the better option at starting 3 than Barnes.

Marc Stein @ESPNSteinLine:
The Mavs are committed to keeping Nicolas Brussino, sources say. The Argentina prospect's $543,471 deal is fully guaranteed at 5 PM today.

Yeah, Brussino has potential as a stretch four going forward. This is valuable in today's league. He will never be a good 3 though, too slow. At the four? A whole different world, but he needs 10 pounds of muscle to his legs, core and upper body.

Thought for sure they'd hold onto Gibson because his ability to get in the lane but we have plenty of undersized guards. I preferred DFS.
Cousins expected with the legends

Not that it will make any impact this season but I'm glad they went with youth for the last 2 spots.
Curry, Barnes, Anderson, Acy, Hammons, Powell, Brussino and DFS are all 26 and under so we have something to look forward to other than just competing for one of the last PO spots.

I love the pick of DFS over Gibson. No disrespect to Gibson, but I never felt like signing him was much of a forward-thinking move. Can't have enough positionally-flexible wing defenders.

Tim MacMahon: A source said C Jaleel Cousins, DeMarcus’ younger brother, is expected to join the D-League Texas Legends if he clears waivers following his release from the Mavs. All of the Mavs’ cuts are open to joining the team’s D-League affiliate with the exception of G Kyle Collinsworth, who plans to play overseas. However, there is a decent possibility that final cut Jonathan Gibson gets claimed by another NBA team.

Archie Goodwin, Mitch McGary and RJ Hunter are just 3 of the names I've seen so far that are at least "names". So while we have our 15, one of those dudes could be worth a flier. Hunter being cut 1 year after he was drafted is alarming... Goodwin played some nice games last year, and McGary has a weed problem <insert dallas cowboys joke here>. Outside of Goodwin the other 2 aren't exactly surprise cuts.

They all seem like NBA-quality players, but the only name on that list that really intrigues me is Archie Goodwin. He has some pop off of the dribble (which this team obviously really lacks), but can't really shoot or defend, and doesn't have strong passing instincts of court vision.
Hunter is a so-called "shooter" who didn't shoot well last year or during preseason. He'll probably improve but I don't see who we'd cut for him.
McGary is another guy who is probably a really good backup if he develops, but he needs to prove he can keep his head on straight first.

They don't have many "wing players in that 6'6-6'8 range" Justin Anderson isn't even really one. He's more like 6'5.
I don't see any good back up PF's or C's.
the 2011 team had a lot of size and wings. They had Haywood, Mahinmi, Brewer, Stevenson, all off the bench. Then in the starters more size with Dirk, Marion and Chandler.
