Would be really interested what we could get for him near trade deadline. He looks way disinterested on the floor.

Well Barnes is better than anyone on the Lakers team. The team with the best player generally has an advantage.

I really thought Lakers would sign Barnes with Walton going there. Bet they wish they would've now.

Wes only shot 4 3's today. That's major progress. Seth Curry was able to take those other shots he would have taken.

Im wondering if he was told to chill out. He only took 6 shots either last game or the game before.

@espn_macmahon: Harrison Barnes has his third 30-point night in seven games with the Mavs. He had one in 307 games with the Warriors.
@espn_macmahon: Harrison Barnes (22.3 points per game) is scoring at a clip almost twice as high as last season in Golden State. "It's just a different situation," he said. "I give a lot of credit to coach [Rick] Carlisle and the staff."

Barnes needs to chill, he is single-handedly ruining our pick. On a more serious note, another great game for him, if he can keep this up until Christmas, I'm going to become a believer. He has been prone to huge cold streaks in the past. Curry needs to play more, and if we win a couple more, they need to think about making Dirk the sixth man. He said he would be okay with it.

2007 NBA MVP, 2011 Finals MVP, 13x All-Star..... 2017 Sixth Man of the Year?
Not a bad way to round out his legacy.

I remember that Barnes decided instantly that he wanted to be in Dallas.
It is good to see that Barnes has been giving it all and seems to build his confidence up. I thought it will take longer time for everyone to adjust, especially because of age, but everything is clicking at the moment.
With Barnes getting more number 1 treatment, it should also help with Matthews who gets to take less shots and will not have the ball so much. You can not expect more from him than D and occasional 3. He can hit big shots when you really need it but he is not suitable to carry your team whole game.
I am really hoping to see Barnes grow even more this season and fun to have him + Curry giving good efforts.

Fun Fact: Did you notice that JJB has averaged 6.5 rebounds in the last two Mavs' wins?

You are so right, Mr. Rocker... at the age of 31, and standing at around 5' 10", in this early season, JJB is averaging around 17 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds per game. I hope I did not jinx him!

Great game. Fun to watch the young guys. I'm really becoming a big fan of Barnes. I like his work ethic, personality, and game. Parsons who? Good riddance!
Wes is still horrible, and I really don't see much improvement. He needs to go to the bench and be used as a defensive specialist imo. Still, I'll continue to root for him. He seems to be a good guy, but achilles injuries have felled better players than him. I wish him the best so long as it's not at the expense of the Mavs.

At least Wes was more of a distributor last night, and he does play good D. But man, you hold your breath when he shoots.
Funny people mentioning Dirk coming off the bench. Still too soon for that.
However, I can't imagine any logic to starting Deron anymore. The team is clearly run better with barea, and we now have the defense to cover him up. Plus, the bench would benefit from Deron's scoring off the bench.

I honestly don't know how RC can go back to what we were doing to start this season. This team looked like it had no identity and no idea how to utilize the players on the floor. When Dirk and Dwill come back I really hope I don't see a change in how the offense is being run. I'm not saying Dirk has to come off the bench but we can't go back to Barnes being the 3rd option and being largely ignored for long stretches at this point.
http://stats.nba.com/league/player/#...ort=Poss&dir=1
Biggest gripe people had about Parsons(about his play on the floor), myself included, was that he can't create his own shot. We couldn't just give it to him and say, "go make it happen". So far Barnes is doing that, and in the last 2 games he's even doing it with the entire defense knowing it's coming. Do I think he's going to stay at this insane mark all year? Probably not. His isolation efficiency in conjunction with the frequency he is being asked to do it is arguably the best in the NBA right now. That's not something anyone was predicting, small sample be damned. But I do not want to see us go back to what I saw early in the year. IMO, we have an identity and it's also good for the development of Barnes to stay this way as well.
-Edit-
Actually after I walked away... i totally forgot to factor in Barnes is playing the 4. So while it doesn't mean Dirk HAS to come off the bench still for Barnes to remain this effective. The fact is we haven't SEEN Barnes get these same looks at the 3 while Dirk is on the floor playing the 4. It would appear he is abusing all types of defenders though so it might not be as big of a factor as some think. So far it looks like if a guy is afraid of his quickness(bigger 4's) he's simply shooting it with space or taking them off the dribble. If it's a smaller more athletic guy, he's posting them up or simply shooting over them with his length. I don't really know what my opinion is of what I'd like to see from the starting lineup since we just haven't seen what any of it looks like at this point. It's interesting though for sure.

I think one thing to consider is putting butts in the seats. Is Barnes a draw to get people to come to games? From what I've heard, the Arena has been half empty so far. One of the only reasons for anyone to go to a game the past two seasons is to see the greatness of Dirk on the court. And it does mean something to hear his name announced in the arena.
Logically though, I agree. I really can't imagine him being better than Barnes at this point, and that is a wonderful thing if true. The Mavs finally have future beyond Dirk.
You definitely have a giant issue with Bogut and Dirk starting together. They are just too big and slow at their respective points in their careers. They would have been wonderful together 5 years ago, but the game has changed so much.
The real question is whether Rick can tame his temptation to rely on the vets too much.

Yeah, dude doesn't have a go-to move yet, but he's fundamentally solid and uses his fundamentals to score and pass in some cool/creative ways. I already liked him before he started playing well, but I had no idea how impressed I'd be with him and how quickly he'd start putting up those franchise numbers.

I think getting D-Will and Dirk back will inevitably change the offense.
This may be a really unpopular opinion, but I don't think Dirk and Deron have a place on this team. Both are bad defensively, streaky offensively, and our whole game is about being quick, young, long, and tenacious. Dirk and Deron are talented, but neither one fits.
Harris, if he ever gets healthy, will fit that mold well. Dirk and Deron are pieces from another puzzle.

And when you add Wes and DWill to that starting lineup we are even slower.
I think two of the starters need to be replaced with Barea and another young player to have more energy from the start.
We were playing from behind with double-digit deficits the first several games and it appeared to me it was from a lack of energy in the starting lineup.
Personally I think Mejri/Dirk/Barnes/Anderson/Barea would be a hell of a starting lineup. Mejri just seems more active and disruptive than Bogut and is a better fit with Dirk and Barea imo.

His go-to move is that power dribble right inside of the three point line that sets up a pull-up 18-footer. I think he's shooting a hair under 60% from that range, so it's working... at least through 7 games.

I feel like we'd probably be best bringing Dirk in off the bench or playing him at center. I don't think switching Barnes back to SF is going to be a great fit for him, though it's still a position that we'd probably win more nights than not.

On a side note, whatever happened to Luol Deng? He has been absolutely terrible this season, and Barnes ate him for breakfast. He was once a really good defender. Guess not anymore.
