Phoenix Suns Fire Sale
Suns are in horrible shape after a mega-blowout season opener loss and now they've fired their head coach and some assistants. Bledsoe "claimed" partial responsibility for the beginning of the season but he also tweeted that he doesn't want to be there. I still think he could be an amazing player on a team that gives him hope. Three questions ...
1. What would it take to get him? (our 1st pick + ?)
2. Would he fit with DSJ and be worth the cost to get him?
3. Is there anyone else on the team that would be good for the Mavs to target?

Pretty sure the coaches were fired to appease Bledsoe in reaction to his tweet, not sure if they're looking to move him right now.
That said, I don't think he really fits this team at this point... Would have been a completely different story a year ago, but we're going younger and cheaper with our rebuild. He's more of a "final piece" move.

I honestly like Bledsoe a lot, but trading for a guy making 29.5 million over this season and next seems a little crazy for a team that may be in contention for worst in the league.
We're also rife with small guards with:
Smith (6'1"), Harris (6'3"), Barea (6'0" in platform shoes), Clavell (6'4"), Curry (6'2"), and Ferrell (6'0") all on the roster. I imagine we'd have to trade at least one or two of those guys to make it work.
Ultimately he's a nice talent, but he doesn't address our biggest issue, which is front-court play and rebounding. Donnie/Cuban may be dumb enough to pull the trigger on Powell+McRoberts+Barea+ 1st rounder for him, but adding Bledsoe to our awful roster doesn't suddenly make us a contender and there's no guarantee he'd want to stay here either.

I like Bledsoe but no way I'm giving up our 1st for him.
Not sure how happy, or effective, he'd be off the ball as a secondary ballhandler.

I like the idea of using cap space to buy low on guys, but we should be looking at trades that involve us receiving draft picks, not giving them away. Right now we are not a suitor for Bledsoe, almost regardless of the price.

I like Bledsoe and yeah in this league you have to stackpile talent. So im taking Bledsoe for sure for any package around Powell/Seth/Barea/harris etc. Firstrounder wont work, we have to protect the crap out of them and with a strong protection they are kind of useless for the Suns.
My guess Bledsoe ends up in San Antonio

Looks like Bledsoe isn’t playing tonight, Suns talking to several teams around the league... Sounds like Clips might be a frontrunner.

Teodosic out indefinitely and Beverley is limited in his skillset (mostly a 3/D guy). With a decent guard they may actually be good. It makes a lot of sense for them to get him.

Does Clippers first round pick get it done? Bledsoe's good but teams arent exactly giving picks away these days.

Probably not until the deadline, but they are motivated. I don't see anyone offering more.

Denver to trade Emmanuel Mudiay for Bledsoe? Plus Faried as cap filler. After seeing some of these trade proposals, Bledsoe is definitely going to be had for cheap so forget the first round pick.
Bledsoe is definitely better than any guard we currently have, so why not send a couple back since we appear to be over-balance in the guard position anyway excluding DSJ of course? He's making $14 million this season and $15 next. That actually isn't bad if he becomes a legit #2 option on this team ... again, behind DSJ.
My only concern is that he would stunt the growth of DSJ. I see no issues in making the trade as far as players leaving and money.

Problem I see with Bledsoe is his fit next to DSJ, especially on defense... Neither guy is going to be able to guard most SGs. I mean, I guess it's no different than DSJ/Yogi, but how's that working out so far?

I'd take him on just for the upgrade in talent if there is a chance that we could get rid of either Powell and/or Matthews and another guard. We've got too many small guards as it is, but if we could reduce that number or even keep it the same while dumping Matthews or Powell, I'd be in. Bledsoe would be much more desirable in a trade package than either Matthews or Powell. Yeah, it's not going to happen, but I can dream can't I?

I doubt DSJ sees more than 32min in his first two seasons, so there you have allready 16 PG minutes for Bledsoe.

Phoenix will have better options for Bledsoe than anything Mavs can offer. They're tanking this season and so have no use for Seth or Noel and even if they really liked those guys they wouldn't have their Bird Rights. Why would they want Wes or Powell? Why would anyone? Our best hope is that Wes catches fire and Pels get desperate. Even then we're taking back Asik or other bad contracts.

That may be true, but we've also seen trades go down and wonder why the hell we didn't get in on it. What if all it took was something crazy like Yogi and a 2nd rounder?

I'm sure Donnie is inquiring, that's his job... But you're not just giving up assets to acquire Bledsoe, but also $15m in cap space -- if they don't think he's a PERFECT fit, then they're not going to make that move just to get marginally better. Not with the upcoming FA market, anyway.

Everyone tries to fleece the Knicks, but in reality, it is simply by asking high and then seeing what the other one offers.

Frank is fleecing the Knicks? I mean, he's a new first rounder, but between constant injuries and being 2-3 years from even contributing, I'm not sure that other than his lottery pedigree that he's ever going to be an NBA player. Knicks probably don't want to give up on him this soon, but I think in the long run, Frank is going to turn out about as well as Milicic-- not terrible, but more unrealized potential than skill.
Anyway, Suns are going to find that contract hard to swallow. 14.5 mill this year. 15 mill next. Winning teams are generally over the cap and thus have to match and give up other big contracts. Losing teams under the cap likely don't have any interest in absorbing his 29.5 million contract AND giving up big assets for doing so.
That limits the Suns a LOT.

Suns are asking for a significant young talent. Wont happen.
Edit: and now i read Stein said they try to include Tyson. lets bring him in again as Noel mentor

Stockpiling more guards but i dont see the FO including Harris, Barea or Seth. I also dont think that the Suns have any interest in Seth.

Yeah, I'd rather not tie up $13.5m of this summer's FA budget in a guy who doesn't want to be here so he can mentor another guy who doesn't want to be here.
