If Steve Nash played for Phoenix, went to Dallas, and then went back to Phoenix, does that make him the Prodigal Sun?
yeah it's still nba offseason - can't wait for camp to open.

Russell Westbrook is undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery in his right knee. Love this comment on realgm...
"That's ok. His game is not relying on physical advantages at all, so there can't be any risk of him "losing it". His game is well balanced, efficient, based on very high basketball IQ, unreal passing and sharpshooting par excellence. Nothing to worry about."

The playoff race is going to be brutal in the Western Conf.
1) Golden State
2) Houston
3) OKC
4) New Orleans
5) Portland
6) Utah
7) Dallas
8) Lakers, San Antonio, Denver, Minnesota, Phoenix

Yeah, there's definitely at least 10 really good teams in the West. I would be careful about putting New Orleans and Portland that high, though. I think there's a decent chance one or both of them will miss the playoffs. Portland just doesn't have the horses and overachieved last year, and New Orleans has a really unbalanced roster without any quality wings.
Right now I think the only sure things in the West are GSW, Houston, Utah and the Lakers. OKC is also probably like 75% to make it in, so that leaves 3 spots for about 7 or 8 teams to fight over. The West is going to be such a bloodbath!!

i think a lot will come down to injuries. A team missing their star for 10-20 games and boom, maybe they are out (NO, Portland etc)

Suns are looking for a PG. They supposedly are targeting Patrick Beverley. As much as I love JJBarea might we get a nice 2nd round pick for him. We would lose his masterful pick-n-roll abilities but we are nicely set up with Harris backing up DSJ and Luka's abilities.
And I was looking forward to JJB lobbing to DJ.

That's tough. His ability on the floor and experience makes him essentially a player coach who can provide a lot of experience to DSJ, BRunson and Doncic. Couple that with Devins injury history and Brunson not showing much at all in summer league, to me he is more valuable to us but the Suns won't see it.

Jimmy Buckets wants out of Minnesota.
During a much-publicized high stakes meeting with head coach and team president Tom Thibodeau, All-Star swingman Jimmy Butler requested that the Minnesota Timberwolves trade him, according to Shams Charania and Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.
Charania reports that Butler — whom the Wolves acquired at the 2017 NBA draft in a deal that sent guards Zach LaVine and Kris Dunn, along with a draft pick that became forward Lauri Markkanen, to Chicago — has “given Minnesota a list of one-to-three teams with whom he’s open to signing [an] extension.” Butler can enter unrestricted free agency after the 2019-20 season.

Minny is a train wreck. Wouldn’t surprise me if KAT also requests a trade by November
I’d say that Smith/Doncic/Kat would be a decent three going forward and worth entertaining but Mavs have zero draft picks and our only assets of value are expirings and young talent who we want as our core

LAWL at the idea of building around Wiggins.
I see why they do it: ticket sales for a .400 team are better than ticket sales for a .250 team, but still. Building around Wiggins is about as foolish as building around Kevin Love.

Yeah....you know its the Wolves, they do this crap. They should hope for lottery luck next summer.
Paying Wiggins the max was incredible stupid, they are never ever being able to trade that contract

I think it's a city problem. He wants to go to NY or LA.

Did anyone catch Sixers game? I was wanting to see if Fultz looked like the guy in college or that... whatever he was as a rookie. I see he didn't shoot any 3's. I saw he changed his shot a week ago and it still looked weird and not very fluid.

It's really nice to think that the MBT has absolutely killed it the last 2 years of draft. Hopefully DSJ and Doncic have long careers that bear that out.

I know Mikal Bridges is dealing with an elbow issue, but I definitely haven't seen much from him this preseason. Missed every 3 he has taken so far.

Boy, I really hope it's just preseason stuff because Trae Young is utter trash so far. He can't shoot. One hot streak in 2017 somehow made him the 3rd pick in the draft. Crazy.

More drama, if I was Minny, I wouldn't pass his ass the ball in the regular season, he's only thinking about himself and his max contract that he can get. Play the "good" teammate, get your numbers up, get traded, get max possible deal.....

I still don't have an issue with Butler honestly. Allegedly this all started after they traded for him and didn't give him an extension at that time. The new one that was added in the CBA, where it adds 10m to the salary and extends the contract 1 year. At least that's what Stephen A. Shit said... for whatever that's worth(not much rly). Yet they gave Wiggins a max deal. And if you are Butler and u are in practice and see Wiggins getting rewarded for playing no defense and being, well, not very good... and you yourself are busting ur ass and prolly the only one playing defense it might tick you off. But regardless he just seems like a dude who will tell u to ur face what he thinks of you. Lots of guys like that. I don't think he's just a numbers guy either, because his play leads to wins. I don't think this is what you were saying btw, but I thought I'd make the distinction anyway. Minny was clearly a top 4-6 seed with him last year and without him were out of the playoffs according to the advanced stats. For comparison I would love Butler and want nothing to do with Cousins(pre injury). Cousins to me puts up empty numbers, Butler to me helps you win.
The bigger issue if I were a Minnesota fan is this part from yesterday-
Quote:
During Wednesday's practice, Butler reportedly challenged not only the Timberwolves' leadership, including Tom Thibodeau and Scott Layden, but also Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins. Additionally, Butler apparently took a team of third-stringers and easily beat the starters during a scrimmage.
|
If we maxed 2 players and called them our cornerstones and Barnes walked in off the street with no practice, no preseason, no nothing... and took Mejri, Powell or DFS, Broekhoff, and Brunson and beat down our starters "easily" and we had real playoff aspirations... that would be a huge red flag. What third stringer, or second stringer for that matter, on the Wolves bench has a prayer of guarding KAT? He is ranked around the top 15 in the NBA by fans/media. That alone should have made "easily" beating them something that should never happen. Add to it the rest of the guys should have a marked advantage at every position except where Butler is playing. It was also reported that some players were laughing about it when it was over... what exactly is funny about a team with playoff aspirations getting it's ass kicked by Butler and some random joes who may get spot minutes here and there?
Honestly it tells me he knows how to win and they don't. And he likely tells them as much and their feelings get hurt. He's not blameless obviously and if we had the assets and we didn't already have 2 ball dominant young players, one being from Europe, I would absolutely want him on this team. My only issue would be his mileage. Only way I see him living through a 5 year max as a great player at the end is if he became a 40% 3pt shooter to make up for the wear and tear his body has and will accrue over the next 5 years. Since our roster is what it is though, he would be too risky for me and as UD said, we aren't a player away from real contention. You do have to have guys who can handle an in your face alpha like that as well. DSJ I think can handle it. I'm not sure if Luka is ready for that given that I doubt anyone in Europe is remotely as in your face as Butler. Maybe if Butler had already been here that would be one thing, and I have no idea how he treats rookies. He seems to only really have an issue when a player is paid or regarded as a franchise player despite not putting in the work/effort he does and in contrast that same team doesn't show him the same commitment. But the risk/reward with our current roster is not worth it even if we had the assets to get him which we don't imo.

At this point, it doesn't matter whether it was right or not that the Wolves gave Wiggins and KAT those contracts. Jimmy is right that they shouldn't have, and that's OK...as long as you don't act like a total head case about it. That's where the wolves suddenly look like the good guys. Sure, they might have prioritized the wrong players, but Jimmy sure as hell isn't making a case for himself by going nuts in practice then doing some phony ESPN interview afterwards.

No i agree he shouldn't have done it. But it wouldn't stop me from taking him if our roster was in need of him. Our roster is not though so it doesn't really matter.

Butler is nuts. If that isn't obviously to every human alive, then I just don't know what to tell you. Any team willing to give up assets for him will prove just how deep the players' power is over the league.

@espn_macmahon: Jimmy Butler’s attempts to motivate his Minnesota teammates apparently wasn’t effective.
