Luka will win ROY
BUT if the Mavs win 50 games (I know I am being very optimistic here)...does look have a case for MVP if her puts up 20 6 and 4 all year??
Any thoughts??

No way Luka will win an MVP Award this season. Giannis has 34 // 13 // 6 at the moment..

I dunno about MVP, but All-Star might be in the cards.

No chance
Harden
Westbrook
Curry
Lillard
James
Durant
Davis
Gasol
Jokic
Thats locks right now and then you have still DeRozan, George, Conley, Klay, Mitchell, Gobert, Towns etc etc

Well I wasn’t saying he would win it but I think he would have a good case. Some of those other guys are clearly going to put up some better numbers and their teams might be better. But Lukas play has been great and if he helped lead us to 50 wins after last season and into the playoffs, that make him the Mavs MVP and again make a solid case for league MVP. I understand that with him being a rookie it’s very very unlikely.
Either way, the kid is a lot more exciting then I envisioned and I love his passion and game overall.

I hope Doncic is really happy here because I want him to be a Mav for life. Also he needs to get a max contract from us. Luckily, we have time for that, but he'll be worth it.

We know AD will be injured around that time, so replacement maybe?

Can Dennis Smith Jr. and Luka Doncic play together?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jy4EHrCIDgA
nice little montage and discussion
obviously a work in progress but more and more I think we just need to be patient as they learn to play with each other

What will go a long way is if DSJ takes just a bit of a back seat offensively and continues to work on his defensive game...It's ok if DSJ is only the #3-#4 option on offense moving forward..

It's an interesting conversation for sure. Would we all be OK if he became a better version of say....Avery Bradley?

Per Rick Carlisle, Luka Doncic (hip) is much improved and looks like a good chance he returns Tuesday against Blazers after missing Sunday vs. Clips. Maxi Kleber a little less certain with right knee soreness. Dennis Smith Jr. getting a root canal today but should be fine Tuesday

If you like me plan to tune into the latest "30 thoughts for 30 teams" Ringer Podcast and hoping for a solid Mavs / Luka take, I can save you some disappointment. You are going to wait the full pod only for them to play out the show with "Halleluka".

Fake news got me again! I was thinking he's won 3 RotM awards (Oct, Nov, Dec?)? And I was also thinking how did Trae win it with him?
https://www.basketball-reference.com/awards/rom.html
This was the first RotM award this year.
Trae was the East winner and Doncic was the West.

Does anyone have any insight as to what the camera work is like overseas? Is it more wide shots with less of the closeups in between the action? I notice that Luka seems to get caught making goofy faces and things more often than others. Maybe he just doesn't care, but I was wondering if there was any difference in how those games are televised that might explain some of it.

Here you go, a YT video from a EUROLEAGUE match. Double ankle breaker and reaction. He is just a kid who is enjoying playing basketball, and does this in a fantastic way.

It’s just his personality. He just put there having fun while playing a kids game. Tonight was another example. He got left hanging and had to dap himself. He just has a silly personality which is one of the things that makes him great if you ask me.

Shooting guard Wesley Matthews half-kiddingly accuses Barea of being "soft" on Doncic, saying the Puerto Rican guard goes easy on the rookie who spent the previous six years in Spain because "they speak Spanish and listen to Bad Bunny together and all that stuff."
But Barea figures Doncic has earned the special treatment due to his professional experience and production. "He's a different rookie," Barea says with a shrug. "He won't follow the rules to perfection, but he's cool about it."

LeBron James asked about AD comments, goes on to name all the greatest players in the league he'd love to play with -- mentions Luka Doncic in the same breath as Durant, Butler, Giannis, Embiid, etc.: https://twitter.com/taniaganguli/sta...65867787505664
19 years old and already seen as one of the best by the best basketball player in the world... No pressure, kid.

Didn't think there could ever be a Mav as special as Dirk in my lifetime but Luka is certainly looking to be a very special Mav....hopefully for his entire career.
Gotta love this kid.
How great is it to be a Mavs' fan to have someone as special as Dirk for the past 20+ years and now someone with similar all around qualities at the age of 19?

It’s definitely nice to know we could have found our next superstar. Only hope is that we can keep him around. Guys like Dirk who stay with one team their entire career are rare.

They need to do whatever it takes to get him some elite help on this team. Either by FA or by trade, any means necessary. That’s the only way they can expect to keep him.

Agree but they will need to make sure they are the right players. Ball dominate players will most likely not want to come here and if they do that could become an issue as Luka continues to take control of this team.
I'm still scratching my head as to why we couldn't attract star FAs with Dirk because he isn't ball dominate, plays unselfish, is a great locker room guy, and would be the ultimate complement to a ball dominate player as well as centers like Howard. Dirk could have single handedly enhanced several players careers and I just find it mind boggling as to why we could never attract any.
I just hope Luka is as loyal as Dirk and I think he will be.

Because this team didn't have any cap space to go after FAs until Dirk was 33 years old, which gave pause to young superstars trying to map out the next 4 years of their career (after a lockout, no less). If they had known that Dirk would still be putting up 18.3 PPG at 37 they probably would have chosen differently.
Cuban & Donnie have learned a lot in the last 20 years, so Luka basically gets to be the focal point of the franchise with plenty of cap space to build around him right out of the gate, whereas nobody saw Dirk as a franchise player early in his career... Plus Luka doesn't have to deal with that "soft Euro" stigma playing against him since Dirk murdered that stereotype in 2011.

Contracts are also shorter in the current CBA, so I'm not really worried about locking money up. I just want to actually have some sort of team locked up though so that guys can build chemistry. I don't want the carousel of talent every offseason.
