You think he'd go #1 with Luka and Ayton on the board? I know there were a lot of draft predictions that had him as #1 in 2017, but in 2018 the injuries had him anywhere from 5-30.

Dwain Price: Tyson Chandler doesn’t have an official title with the @Dallas Mavericks. But he is working with the team’s big men and trying to help them improve their skill set. – via Twitter DwainPrice
Top Rumors, Coaching, Tyson Chandler, Dallas Mavericks
Dwain Price: Both Jason Kidd and Tyson Chandler joked today about Tyson possibly signing a 10-day contract with the #Mavs. Tyson said: “I’ve learned in life I don’t rule anything out. But that’s not mentally where I’m at.” Tyson and Kidd were teammates when the Mavs won the 2011 NBA title. –

90% chance this will blow up like Sac town and Divac...
But I LOVE this.
Chandler could do wonders for M. Brown and WCS. Both guys have that quickness and length that Chandler had, but both guys needs to work don't the skills/IQ part of the game. Love that Chandler is back

I'd feel about as confident rolling the dice with Tyson at center as I do with whatever other option we have at center.

I think he would have, yeah, if he doesn't get injured. He would have dominated the NCAA in his first year, and he was exactly the type of scorer/shooter they are looking for today. I know he wasn't and isn't a good playmaker, but Durant wasn't either (not saying he would have been as good as Durant in the NCAA either, just that they love those lanky, long, elite scorers). And yeah, perimeter players have an advantage these days on the draft, I think at least.

Inside Mavs’ first practice under Jason Kidd:
From scrimmage hype to a Luka Doncic half-court swish
Dallas didn’t accomplish Kidd’s top preseason goals on Day 1, but the team still finished the workout with something to celebrate.
There was plenty of clapping and hollering, a technicolored sound system blaring and, of course, a Luka Doncic half-court swish.
Welcome to the first official practice for Jason Kidd’s Mavericks.
Kidd said after the session Tuesday, which ran more than an hour past its original 11:30 a.m. wrap time, that “the energy and the effort and the communication was at an all-time high.”
That might be — at once — training camp coach speak and still factual because there was zero precedent for the 2021-22 Mavericks’ practice demeanor before Tuesday.
“It was one of the most fun practices we’ve been a part of,” second-year wing Josh Green said. “Everybody was together, moving the ball and it’s always fun to be a part of that and going at each other and just doing what we love to do.”
We’ll start with the most obvious observations from the first portion of a non-bubble Mavericks practice some reporters were allowed to attend since the coronavirus pandemic started in March 2020:
Luka Doncic looked in rhythm — in on-court work and in personality.
In the final segment of practice, Doncic ran the point in a scrimmage and teamed with center and best friend Boban Marjanovic for a putback score.
Doncic unleashed some high kicks in his neon Jordan Brand sneakers between runs, rotated with Tim Hardaway Jr. on individual 3-point work and bounced a ball off a side wall before jogging to midcourt and casually heaving a halfcourt shot.
Clearly not everything has changed since the Mavericks’ summer of upheaval.
But the open portion of practice did reveal some new wrinkles.
Perhaps the most notable moment during the scrimmage: Green received the ball on the high post and hit a turnaround fadeaway shot with confidence not always visible during his rookie season.
Second-year guard Tyrell Terry ran the point for one of the scrimmage units and swished a 3-pointer.
Moses Brown, the 7-1 center the Mavericks acquired in trading Josh Richardson, showed off his towering size and funky one-handed 3-point shot.
Some of the Mavericks’ returning leaders, including Tim Hardaway Jr. and Dwight Powell, shouted often from the sidelines when not in the action.
All the while, music boomed from a neon, flashing sound system stationed near the back right corner of the court.
“Just overall, it’s such a competitive environment,” Green said. “It’s a great vibe.”
Kidd didn’t divulge much about the Mavericks’ happenings before reporters were admitted.
Over the first few sessions, expect Kidd to teach his new system and terminologies before harping on the details.
To get started, though, he had a few additional helpers on hand.
Tim Grgurich, an integral, unofficial coach on the Mavericks 2010-11 championship staff, arrived at the facility at 6:15 a.m. and contributed to his former pupil Kidd’s first official practice.
So did title teammate Tyson Chandler, who has worked with the Mavericks’ big men since August as part of the Mavericks Legends part-time coaching program Mark Cuban started this season.
“You saw him in there sparring with Boban,” Kidd quipped about Chandler. “Made him look small.”
The Mavericks didn’t accomplish Kidd’s main goals on Preseason Day 1: building better chemistry and accountability. He knows that will take time.
But the team did have something to celebrate in its final huddle.
They wrapped up by singing “Happy Birthday” to Terry, now 21, and then dispersed for more shooting and lifting.

Tim Grgurich being involved with the team again is GREAT news
I remember the defense that he installed for the championship run paid huge dividends

Something or Nothing?
I've now heard or read from 4 different players how there was a different buzz
and excitement not seen at camp before.
So it is new coaches, system, new season, or just opposite of Rick C. style?

Everything is roses in training camp. Winning or losing changes all.
With that said, Rick's style was grating no matter what you thought of him or his coaching. Rarely did you ever heard of a player say how much he loved playing for Rick and how happy he was with the system. And we likely would have had to trade KP if Rick was still the coach.
Doesn't mean much though if you aren't winning. If we're a .500 team, then we'll all wish Rick was back.

Bye bye Burke, Hello Frank
Mavs reserve G Trey Burke confirms he is not vaccinated and says he’s “not trying to rush into a decision.” He says he wants to do more research. Asked what more research he feels he needs to do, Burke mentioned potential long-term effects. Mavs want 100% vaccination rate.

Remember Price said something about Moses being expected to be a part of the big man rotation. He may not know what he’s talking about, but if he does that could mean the plan is for Maxi at backup 4 and Brown at 5. In this scenario, Bullock would be limited to backup 3 minutes, until he beats out Dorian.

Good for him. Research away. He can still play every game this season at this point.

Bullock not starting is a flopping dildo move imo.
Whatever.
They still haven't sorted out a reasonable way for MFFLs to watch games.

Agreed, but just youtube the firestick. It may not be perfect, but all you gotta pay for is the VPN. I sincerely doubt Cuban starts some independent streaming service. That would likely create a domino effect and somehow affect their next ridiculous TV deal.

I'm not sure how to function without a DVR feature. I have a firestick that I never use anymore and never used it to watch games. I still have my ATT Now service and for some reason they haven't increased my rates and I'm beyond my 6 month discount. Just waiting for that to happen.

Yep. Same as Brown. If either one of them is the planned backup center, and you aren’t going small, you need the other big to be a three point shooter, so Maxi has to come off the bench.

So Powell starts and we have Brown, WCS, Boban, and occasionally Kleber behind?
Disappointed in Powell starting (although his offense is truly amazing. It's just his defense/rebounding that needs work)
Really happy with the depth there. Just hope we don't forget Brown and WCS, who have a lot of defensive potential

Not trying to rush into a decision lol. It’s been like two years! What does he need, a decade to “look into it” ?

Shame that the start of he NBA season has been mired by this. But it's inescapable. You either want covid gone or you don't.
If everyone eligible got vaccinated, then we'd be talking about a few thousand deaths every year versus a few thousand a day. Why, why, why can't people understand that.
Hope Cuban pushes for vaccine attendance. Not fair that kids should have to risk themselves when they can't get the shot.

I think a lot of people would be talking differently about the vaccine if it was Luka.
Instead Burke was borderline roster material anyway. Then Frank arrived and it's sure looking like Burke is in trouble.

Need to study long term effects like okay Dr Burke. We need to allow space for the basketball player to do his research 2 years later lol. The thing about term is he can use that excuse forever. I don’t expect you to go to the doctor anymore for injuries either.

Absolutely not. Just as one of my all time favorites is LeBron i would be saying the same thing about him if he wasn’t vaccinated. Same with Luka. This is a worldwide pandemic. Not some off hand opinion.

Absolutely, but that’s life. If the Mavs think Burke is better than Frank, I think they will keep him despite his vaccination status. Burke has already had the virus anyway, so his immune system is likely as ready to fight the pathogen as mine who has had both Pfizer doses 7 months ago or whatever.
I don’t understand the long term effects worry, though. It doesn’t make any sense to me. The mRNA disappears quickly and the only memory your body has of the incident is how to kill the spike proteins, not how to make them. The risk is all short term and very minimal. I haven’t done much “research”, but I took bio, micro, and organic chemistry in school. I’ve listened to the Weinsteins and Kim Iverson, but they only say, “we don’t know” without any plausible explanation of the danger.
