What do you think of this trade? It's no unreasonable, but man, we're already having trouble scoring. Giving up Brunson would be a tough pill to swallow...
https://twitter.com/lgunnnn/status/1471906908827267078
I mean, I would say the good new is that Brunson's trade value is very high right now. His numbers as a starter are way up.

Don’t know why anyone would want more from an MLE guy

I know why everyone would want more from a 10m guy. DFS doesn't make half what the *sniper* makes and is way more productive. Reggie sucks, his numbers are atrocious and his defense is decent but not someone you really need in the game because he can lock someone down. I'd rather Green have every single one if his minutes. Sniping 3s at a 27% clip, 72% free throw sniping, no passing, no dribble. I think you can get a lot more out of a MLE guy.

Hesitation to do this because while I love everything else about Ben, he can't shoot free throws ....or shoot at all in general. I hoped Dfs, Brunson, THJ and 1st should bring back a little something more reliable offensively.
So any trade involving JB will likely be a SnT?

Found this interesting. Sportrac tracks how players are performing compared to their respective salaries.
https://twitter.com/AnalyticsGOAT/st...66172400447488
Reggie Bullock is third from last. Shows that it doesn't matter if he is only making "MLE" type money. He is still utter trash.

If there is a bigger more harsh word for utter, I'd only enjoy this more.
No surprise at THJ on this list. I would have guaranteed that we wouldn't be better just by giving him a new bigger deal. It's almost as if you could somehow tell that we weren't good enough and needed (still need) change in order to improve.

I like Brunson....but I can' say he's some untouchable like he's Lebron or someone. If I can improve my team? I'd be careful in how I trade him but I'd sure look to see what the market is like. Its wishful thinking but if I can get a Bradley Beal type? I'd do it.

I do think Rick would have interest in DFS and maybe even Powell, but that's not netting you anything worth the hassle.
THJ contract matches Sabonis but it's far from an even trade. Also matches Le Vert and Turner but again those players have more value. I don't even consider Brogdan as gettable, he's too valuable.
Sabonis moves the needle for me because it's a big upgrade over Maxi, WCS, DP and Brown. He can pass and score in many ways. Obviously rebounds well too.
Maybe there's a package that interests them but it's gonna cost some "core" pieces....which is still probably a win and a good thing.
I don't think Brunson gets traded because we can go over to sign him. He's putting up big numbers this season and having lots of success and there's a chance Cuban learned from his mistake with Nash...but then again...it's Cuban. Either way that's an asset that we cant afford to fumble away.
How this Trade Deadline goes is more exciting than our season. It's really the only thing that can breathe life back into this dead horse.
|
If you are getting Sabonis for guys like Kleber, DP, etc. then sure he moves the needle. There's nothing on this roster that we can go and get Sabonis with.

That means to not let assets leave for nothing as well as not OVERPAY players, especially limited ones, and Brunson is limited by his size. He also has the benefit of playing on a team with a lot of garbage, so he shines in comparison.

Ehh...I think Levert and Brogdon are fine as point guards...Brunson may be a better point guard than them but he's surely nowhere near them as players.

Reggie, Luka, WCS, Josh, Frank, and Eugene all out vs Minnesota. Only Reggie has covid apparently so I guess that's good news.

Brunson is certainly near Le Vert. I'm not even sure it's a clear upgrade from Brunson to Levert

He shot 11% from the field and 0% from three so what a great pickup. Really matches what we’re going for this season.

Hopefully he can’t dribble or pass either. Our kind of triple threat!

And if he can step out of bounds for a few turnovers. That would be a 4 year contract in the making.

Hey, we signed Marquese Chriss. He shoots about 20% from three, so right on the money.

So...yea, I don't have much to contribute here. We might be able to trade for a piece or two, but with a forward look. It would be silly to sell out for this season with this roster that is so far away from competing.
I'm plum out of ideas there, so I guess I might already be on team tank as the best and quickest way to infuse this team with talent.
Any other ideas?

Nope. Tanking is the right move. I think even Luka would agree as he is part of the problem. KP is made of glass. Most of the B squad can't hit a basket. What hope is there?
Getting a top 10 pick should be the goal. We need assets.

I still like and believe in the Luka and KP pairing. We are semi-stuck with THJ unless we somehow find a trade suitor.
If the FO wants to take a hard look here, you almost have to get something for Brunson. Paying him will put us in a financially tough spot, but it's the only other option. As much as I like Brunson and what he has developed into, not sure I want to tie up that much space to him. In a different roster scenario, it's a no brainer, but the flexibility is key.
Basically, if they don't resign THJ, it would make it much easier to keep Brunson. Hindsight is 20/20, but they should have struck early on an extension to Brunson and let THJ walk.
Everyone else is fodder at this moment. DFS may be the only other one with decent trade value, maaaybe Maxi.

I honestly I haven't watched this team in the last 4 or 5 games.
Having said that there's no way with luka on this roster your blowing it up and as much as we might hate it right now by years end we are still most likely going to be witnessing a 6th seeded squad because the west has all kinds of issues.
Cuban will put his usual duct tape on it and roll into the playoffs with the annual we love our boys in blue slogan.

I actually think bringing up G league players to fill in for the NBA might be entertaining. These guys get a shot to see what they got. And the Mavs play like G League most nights anyway, so I'd like to see something different.

You might be right, but all this g league Covid craziness could shake things up a bit. They also haven’t exactly told us what is going on with Luka right now, and there is always a reason they can come up with to sit KP.

Damn. We better get a big haul if we trade JB. He just keeps getting better and better.
Bullock better be back on the pine when we are all healthy. Starting JB is the easiest coaching decision Kidd can make.

Luka and Burke now out due to Covid.
Mavs signing Brandon Knight to a 10 day contract.
Literally dudes that have been out of the league getting signed because teams just need bodies. 40 year old Joe Johnson just signed with Boston.

Woof. He needs the developmental time, seems to have the intangibles.
