Thanks EL for taking care of this board.
I hope the new guys get a little playing time tonight.
Mavs favored by 6.5 again.
I bet they trap Luka early and often - time for a 20 assist game (NBA record is 30)

Lol got me with the KP injury update
Saw a clip of him on ig he was doing $100 bets on shooting from the stands in his new wizards jersey. Seemed happy.
Also made the shot

Looking forward to the now, slightly improved, Mavs. The new guys should help bring back some of the 40 points of scoring we lost with KP and THJ. Plus, on any given night, we couldn't count on either one to do squat, since KP is likely to be hurt and THJ is as likely to score 6 as he is to get 22.
Dinwiddie is a major upgrade as the third guard. When we need defense, we have Frank. For offense, there's Trey...who is the next to go if we need a spot for a buyout guy.
No hard feelings towards KP. When healthy this year, he's been very good. Not his fault he's got bad wheels. From Shawn Bradley to Yao Ming, the history of the league is littered with the remains of skinny guys over 7 feet who's legs could not withstand the pounding of playing 30 NBA minutes a night.
Time to move on. Let's go Mavs.

Hostile act? His arm came down from being pushed. That’s the craziest call I’ve ever seen.

what's up with all the dumb passes
There's been like 3-4 straight silly passes because dude is trying to make highlight reel tape instead of a simple basic pass

Team is in a world of trouble if Luka doesn't play lights out.
Just not enough offense especially vs good defensive teams

Even without Leonard and George the Clippers just seem like a bad matchup for Dallas.
It's a good thing the Mavs get to avoid them in the 1st round this year

As unreliable Kp was with his health, it’s hurts to lose a lockdown FT shooter in close games.

Let jackson and Mann look like All-Stars

Kleber is just unplayable at the 5. This team needs a center. Any team in the playoffs with a true center will give them problems

I know I just don't understand why they didn't grab one of those Wizzards young centers and tbh I like DFS playing PF
He's too small to be playing extensive minutes at the 4

They weren’t offering them, obviously. The Mavs had to give up a pick just to get what they got.

Freaking poor stretch in that 3rd qtr with all those turnovers and their missed FT's might just help the Clippers win this game.
This team needs to get that 4th seed

Letting 5 seconds run off the clock ok that inbound pass doomed them. Brunson can’t let that happen.

Man that goaltending call comes back to haunt. I say that as I thought that was a bad call. But that didn't cost the Mavs the game tonight.

Can you see them winning a 7 game series vs any of the top 4 seeds with this roster? They have played well against Memphis but they have had guys out on both wins.

It's just little basic things this team can't seem to get right.
Go back to the Luka blown defensive assignment I think vs OKC where he totally loses his man under the basket
Now tonight Brunson has to be ready to defend the backcourt pass
Plus, they have a knack for getting careless with the ball and erratic FT shooting not to mention boxing out at the FT line.
Even without Leonard and George the Clippers are still a bad matchup for Dallas.

Not sure Bryant would be amazing either, and I don’t think it’s likely Gafford was up for offer.

Well here's why they need to find someone via the buy out market
Points in the paint
One area where the now departed Kristaps Porzingis helped the Mavericks a ton this year was at the rim. Now the Mavericks are essentially a 7/11 when it comes to allowing points in the painted area. The Clippers scored 54 of their 99 points right there. Maxi Kleber and Dwight Powell aren’t going to cut it. I know that may shock those of you who’ve watched this team since the pre-pandemic era.

This was more like what the playoffs will look like on average from the Mavs. Unless Dinwiddie changes things. We know who we can count on and the most likely guys to dissappear. If the Clips didn't miss a ton of shots they could have blown us out.
Kleber is fucking unplayable at times. How does he still get lost and out of position on both ends? He's not ready and in position to shoot after pNr and seems disengaged in general at random.
JB had a good bounce back game.
DFS has to be more assertive. Good God 3pts and 2 rebs? That's straight garbage.
I'm not saying all of our playoff games will be more like this and not like when we are streaking and playing well but I'd bet the team tightens up except Luka and if we're lucky. Kleber is deer in headlights in those moments and that sht bothers me. I hate that we have to rely on him so heavily.

Bullock was not Wide open. Covington was there and Jackson immediately filled the gap off the inbound.

Found this to be spot on from that article I posted in the KP trade thread
Luka is surrounded, by all accounts, by nice guys. He enjoys going to the club with these dudes — Maxi Kleiber, Josh Green, and his bestie, Boban Marjanović. But these are guys no other team wants. Those fun teammate vibes will only get the Mavs and Dončić so far. If he is a generational talent, most believe him to be — failing to advance in the playoffs has already begun to eat at him.
The inability to get anything beyond a Porziņģis deal done proved that. Instead, the Mavericks are chock full of glorified role players who only look good playing next to a generational talent like Dončić. Half of them wouldn’t make an NBA roster elsewhere.

Which is why it puzzles me how many people cheer on the DFS extension. Like yippee, another overpaid role player where we aren't a contender. And the idea that him only scoring 3 points doesn't matter is bonkers stupid.
Again, DFS and Kleber are players that are great to have on your team when you have 2-3 superstars. When you don't, their deficiencies are as glaring as staring directly into the sun. Esp Kleber who if he has another bad playoffs needs to be gone the day the season ends.
The weak link is Mark Cuban. He goes back on pretty much anything that comes out of his mouth, so you can't take him seriously.

I like DFS but that new contract was an overspend once again.
I don't think THJ should have got what he got and I don't think Brunson is worth 18-20 million.
Luka is getting close to 5 years in the league and he doesn't have a legit 3rd option let alone a 2nd option.
Mavs might win one playoff series but I fear winning that one series will make Cuban think this roster just still needs time.

The x factor, naturally, is Dinwiddie. I like that he was candid about the time frame of coming back from his injury, but too many times do we say "well, next year" with this team. We can't keep going on for ages waiting for players to come around. It's unfair, but we need prime Dinwiddie today.
The good news with him is that even in a down shooting year, he can still pass and rebound at a reasonably high level. Can always use that.
