Do we know when game 1 is? Utah’s bigs and ability to knock down 3’s at a high clip worries me, but hoping that Utah’s dysfunction as a team will see the Mavs win their first playoff series since 2011.

I mean, the season is over if Luka misses more than two playoff games against the Jazz. I try to be optimistic, but it won't be good.
With that said, this exact scenario is why you have Dinwiddie instead of KP. Dinwiddie at least gives you a fighter's chance and is very much like Luka in the way his game is played.

Game starts early because the Stars have a 7pm game the same day.
Pray for Luka!

Damn that’s early for me 10am
Either going to be a great afternoon or a ruined one.
Any update on Luka

I was surprised looking at box scores and seeing Widdie with 16 minutes or so a few games. We need him big time. I think Luka missing more than one game will spell problems though.

I actually like the early start time
Allows me to catch the game and then enjoy the rest of my Saturday.
Plus, Utah has to travel so there's no disadvantage for either team.

Maybe we should, you know, wait until we know what Luka's status actually is for the playoffs before we immediately proclaim that the season is over? Just a thought.

Bad luck in part but also bad decision making.

I reached out to the Mavericks organization this afternoon after seeing the photo of Luka in a boot circulating around Twitter.
No update as of yet.
An expert in the field told me that the boot he is wearing will restrict further strain and help rest the calf. Don’t panic yet.

How is it bad decision making? For all we know the calf could have been irritated already. Players play hurt all the time. Imagine he sits against SA then injures it in game one vs the Jazz. That's a MUCH worse scenario.

Not sure what you mean? You don’t think it was bad decision making to have him playing meaningless minutes at the end of the 3rd? I’d say it’s damn near malpractice. The only caveat being that it’s possible Luka runs the show and our coach is scared to take him out if he wants to play or “go for a triple double” or whatever. Either way, it reflects poorly on our coach at the very least. And very likely on Luka as well.

If the calf was irritated already it’s even worse decision making.

Who can determine serious injuries? It's terrible luck and timing, sure, but to have that happen exactly in the third quarter on the final game is a freak thing.
And not to get into it, but if we're going to point fingers, then not getting Luka more help earlier in the season and him not being in shape is part of the bigger issue. Now we have Dinwiddie and hopefully he will be in better shape next season.

They had a shot at the 3rd seed
I don't think that was meaningless
Also, did you watch the Golden ST game?
Klay THompson was still playing in that game up til the 6 minute of the 4th QTR.
Which means both coaches Kidd and Kerr felt like it was very important to get that 3rd seed.

Yep, and I'm on the side of two coaches who have championship experience.

Injure him now, so he won’t get injured later?

As if coaches don’t make bad decisions or emotional decisions or political decisions all the time. Even championship winning ones.

Been thinking about this too…it’s possible it was already bothering him, or was close to strain.

Dallas has already announced that Luka Dončić has a left calf strain and is not obligated, five days before Game 1, to publicly share details about today's MRI findings. So the wait for clarity on Luka's status for Saturday's Game 1 against visiting Utah is likely to continue.

I find it deeply refreshing that this is the first time all season that Kidd is being insulted.

He'll likely miss game 1 IMO, but I bet he is back for game 2.
Remember, too, the Mavs almost beat the Jazz earlier in the season without him. I'm not saying we can win, but at least the game(s) will be watchable.

Would really help if game 2 wasn’t until Tuesday. I think the Mavs can get away with Luka missing one game.
Will be a painful wait until a Luka update Friday/Saturday

MRI shows nothing
Looks like a strain and nothing more
3-17 day timetable
Then again 3-17 days is everything from not missing a single game to coming back for game 4

They were playing for a shot at the 3rd seed and the chance to avoid Phoenix in round two, making a plausible path to the conference finals. That's the exact opposite of "meaningless."

Yea. The Kidd slander will not be tolerated.
In fairness, Luka just needs to land better.

At the point of the game Luka was injured, they were no longer realistically playing for the third seed. I’m not sure why people are having a problem acknowledging this.

Do people think Kidd was hitting F5 all game while he coached?
He may have checked at halftime but at that point the game was still in play. Luka was benched in the third quarter when Warriors were leading but neither game was decided

How exactly were they not "realistically" playing for the third seed? Do we know that Kidd was getting real time updates on the score of the Warriors-Pelicans game? That seems unlikely.

Also no one mid game is in the thought process of F5 with a Warriors 20 point parameter, call timeout we have to sit Luka immediately to avoid injury. No one thinks like that. Should Luka sit for every game for the rest of his career when the Mavs ever build a 20 point lead again in the third quarter.
