Next ideal move would be based around THJ, DP to try and get a 2 way sizeable SG/SF who has handles to mix up the attack on offense. Wishful thinking but we still have too many guys who can't dribble.

Marc Stein: Theo Pinson will now be strongly expected to stay in Dallas after the Mavericks complete the Christian Wood trade and open up some unforeseen roster room, league sources say. ? via Twitter TheSteinLine
Tim MacMahon: Mavs have three priorities entering free agency: 1) Re-sign Jalen Brunson, 2) add a wing who can be part of the playoff rotation, 3) re-sign Theo Pinson, who is no longer eligible for a two-way deal. ? via Twitter espn_macmahon

1&2 are no brainers. Getting #2 done is the hars part. THJ isn't that guy. Neither is Dodo or Bullock. They're solid niche players but none can dribble.

Updated wish list:
1) Move Powell (maybe to Nets with their trade exception)
2) Sign low-cost wing towards end of free agency (maybe with a 1 year "prove it" deal): Gary Harris; Joe Ingles; Jeremy Lamb; Taurean Prince; Derrick Jones Jr.; Kent Bazemore; Otto Porter Jr.; Lance Stephenson, Danuel House etc.
3) Try to buy a 2nd round pick to take whatever big drops; we have Wood, but we still need an enforcer

Wood is a fantastic move. For some reason, his face looks like Scottie Pippen to me. Next move should be to lock up Brunson. Can some explain what they can do next salarywise? Aside from TPE, how much can they afford? Could they go for a Lavine?

I still say we should try to sign Hartenstein even though we have Wood.
Hartenstein gives us a true big as Maxi and Wood (supposedly) struggle with true bigs.
A rotation of Wood/Maxi/Hartenstein would solidify our frontcourt imo.
Then make some deal surrounding Green/Powell/THJ/Future Pick (if needed) to add another wing to the rotation.

I like the Hartenstein idea. He doesn?t seem to be too expensive too. How about a front court veteran like Ibaka?

I agree about adding another big, but Hartenstein makes a lot less sense now. We just need a big guy that can handle the other bigs in the league for limited minutes.

Yeah, guys like Ibaka, Mcgee, Biyombo and similar style players do make some since to take on the WCS role as you and DHWS suggest, but I just think Hartenstein could be the steal of FA as he provides a presence in the paint and has the skills to be a high minutes guy.
Hart reminds me of a bigger and better version of LaFrentz.
We do need a starting caliber wing though, and my dream scenario would be to re-sign Brunson, sign Hartenstein, sign Dragic for min, and trade THJ/Green/Future Pick for Grant.
Luka/Dinwiddie
Brunson/Dragic/Frank
DFS/Bullock/Pinson
Grant/Maxi/Betans
Wood/Hartenstein/Powell
3 headed monster guards - Luka/Brunson/Dinwiddie
3 headed monster wings - Grant/DFS/Bullock
3 headed monster PF/C - Wood/Hart/Maxi

Javale McGee could be a good get as a back up and spot starter. He showed the ability to be a versatile defender inside and out.

The glaring hole is still no multi-tool 2 way wing. Yea JB is great but he can't play defense well and doesn't have size. No one else can even remotely dribble.
It's still an upgrade with the addition if Wood and having THJ back but I'm hopeful that we aren't done.

Who did you have in mind for this extra wing? Wood is a pretty good ball handler so that somewhat helps, but I agree to an extra wing. Gotta get rid of THJ though or that wing won't get any minutes.

I sincerely doubt if we use it. We're already deep into luxury tax money (assuming we sign Brunson) so that's a lot to ask

GS is up handily on Boston. If they win it convincingly, then I'm 100% convinced that GS was the only team better than us this season. So getting Wood and THJ back already puts us at the very top. I know the West won't be stagnant, but there is little reason to make big changes.

Lets go through this year's teams-
Suns
Grizzlies
GSW
Mavs
Jazz
Nuggets
Wolves
Pelicans
Suns I think are only going to get worse. This year was their last, best chance for a title and they blew it. Ayton is probably gone and CP3 is another year older. Grizzlies, good team but I do think the Mavs are better. Jazz- they're probably going to blow it up. Gobert is almost certainly gone. Nuggets are interesting. A fully healthy Nuggets team could get back to making noise in the playoffs, but they still don't scare me that much. Wolves, meh. Pelicans- now here's where it gets really interesting. If Zion is healthy and locked in, they could be a real contender. But is Zion rarely healthy, and it seems like he really doesn't want to be there, so who knows. A fully healthy Clippers team is also very tough, but again, when are they ever healthy?
So I agree. As it is, the Warriors are the only team that I would say are unequivocally better than the Mavs. But the Warriors are indeed loaded, and other teams will be making moves too, so hopefully we're not done making moves either. Gotta see if we can turn Powell's expiring, MLE, and maybe THJ into a two-way wing and a shot blocker off the bench.

Of the teams you listed, only the Nuggets and Pelicans are going to be better since they are getting players back. The rest are staying the same or dropping back.
And yes, the Clippers are going to be better (assuming their 2 headed monster attack is back).
But the Mavs are adding two players to our current group so I'm expecting big things from the team. Obviously I would like to see another big move but really I would be happy to see a bruising center type (like a Drummond) added to the mix just to take some of the regular season pounding.

Brunson isn't going anywhere. He isn't going to go win 20-30 games on the Knicks or Pistons from a situation where he will be on a top 5 team.

This. I've read numerous times that playing for a winning team is very important to him.

NOW if another contender wants him, then that could change things. Like Miami for instance who managed to get Butler when they had no cap space. And Lowry has been a disaster for them. I know, I know, they are way over the cap, but somehow these teams manage to do this crap.
Don't be surprised when some out of left field team comes swinging for the fences.

See him pull out his Villanova ring during The Long Shot interview? What you read appears to be 100% right.

The Mavericks? looming acquisition of Christian Wood through the first major trade of the offseason makes it ?far less likely,? according to one source, that they will utilize the $10.9 million trade exception at their disposal through June 27, which they created by trading Josh Richardson to Boston in July 2021. ? via Marc Stein @ marcstein.substack.com
Hopefully this is inaccurate and the FO uses every avenue to improve this roster. There?s not a wing or backup big we can use the TPE for? I could be wrong, but I feel like we rarely use our TPE?s when we have them.

Per Jake Fischer @ Bleacher Report:
In forecasting their offseason dealings, the Knicks are said to be targeting roughly $25 million in room to be able to chase Dallas Mavericks point guard Jalen Brunson, and they are expected to find new homes for Alec Burks and Nerlens Noel, among other moves. Even if New York pivoted away from Brunson, who league personnel widely believe will return to Dallas, the Knicks would have a large gap to meet Irving's contractual wishes.

I predict that the Knicks will swing and miss and end up with nothing, just like they always do. Brunson is staying here, and there's no way Brooklyn is giving away Kyrie just yet before he, KD, and Simmons play a single game together.

Tyreke Evans is a low risk move to get some handles at the wing. I'd 100% toss him a life line to see if he can pull himself back into the ship. Getting a hungry guy with handles and experience(ish) is worth a long look.

Kyle Anderson

Wouldn't mind giving a look at Lance Stephenson too. He did pretty well for the Pacers.

Hmm. I didn't realize he had 4 apg in 18 mpg. Didn't shoot the 3 well but he is included in the has handles and can defend category.

We don't need three shooting after getting Wood. THJ, Wood, Brunson, Luka, DFS, Bullock, and Maxi can all shoot them in some form or another. That means getting a tweener playmaking wing should be rather easy.
