Hardy is aggressively attacking the basket. He also looks like he absorbs contact well.

Hardy looking pretty good.
AJ Lawson looking pretty damn good as well...kind of a DFS clone but looks like a more natural shooter.
Love his energy, athleticism, and aggressiveness. Surprised at his shooting ability too.
Bingham looks a little lost and raw but the potential is certainly there.

I really like what I'm seeing from Hardy. He is obviously still pretty raw, still getting a feel for the game, but he definitely has moves. I'm excited to see him in the regular season.
Also, did we ever get an answer why Josh Green isn't playing?

It just wouldn't be fair to the other summer league players to let such a talented 3rd year player like JG play. This is for kids who are trying to prove themselves.

I'd take Lawson over JG right now.
Hardy is already looking like he has a chance to become a rotation player early in the season.

Of course. JG has zero actual basketball skills.

Mavs really need to package Powell/Green and maybe THJ for someone.
Powell and Green have no business playing this next season.
It's time to give up on Green.

Sigh... Last few minutes of 4th and most of OT have included a number of negative plays from Hardy. Good 1st game overall though. A lot of good and a lot to work on. In general, it's hard to complain w/28 points and a ton of FTs. These refs just aren't calling the arm slaps on that end of the court and the refs on the Bulls side are calling a foul every single drive. That lady ref has no idea how to not raise her hand. Funny actually. Might have a couple of players here as a LOT of good from Lawson as well.

I hope they were paying attention to Lawson.
If he keeps that up, he will take Green's spot.

It was definitely a first and sometimes raw game for Hardy, but the offense is there. That's really all that matters. He wasn't drafted for anything else IMO.
He has the whole package on offense too. He can do fadeaways, catch and shoot threes, driving. In fact, he uses his body to draw contract in a way that is very rare for a player his age.

With Luka making decisions, I like Hardy?s role.
He?s just gotta settle in like rookies do and hell eventually need to develop his playmaking so he can run some point with Luka off the court.

Decent. Took a charge. Got beaten a few times.
You can tell that he has been working on it.

Mavs bigs were bad. Team defense was rough. Really hard to tell defense when NBA is way more about team than individual defense and the summer league is random dudes thrown together.
Hardy should be decent and he?s smart enough to learn. His offense is already there and he has so many moves. If he can carry that over against bigger guys and tougher defenses, then he only needs to learn our defense and keep developing his playmaking decision making

Wasn?t one of Hardy?s knocks or areas of improvement finishing at the rim? Seemed to excel there at least in this game, with the transition work being nice and translatable/useable in the NBA.

Finishing at the rim was a major point of emphasis for the mini "training camp" for Hardy at the summer league

Here are some highlights of AJ Lawson for those who might have missed his great performance against the Bulls.

I think this kid has a chance to make our roster if this game wasn't an anomaly.

I do think we should temper expectations just a tad. Damian Lillard or Beal stuff is silly, but Nbadraft.net compared him to Buddy Hield. I think that's more on the money.
But like Hield, Hardy is going to be polarizing for Mavs fans. He is a volume scorer. He isn't gonna play much defense at least not at first. And his playmaking is more "me" style. He wants his points.
I will say that he is a SG, and the name fits his game. In this new era of positionless basketball, we've lost the meaning of these positions at times. If fans are going to hate on Hardy for volume shooting, then we might as well rename the position.

I get why people see Beal though. His playing style is a lot like Bradley Beals.

Playing style like Beal's and also physically he's very similar to Beal. Almost the exact same body type.
Hield is a good comparison too though. I've also seen Hardy compared to Gary Trent Jr, and that makes sense too.

He doesn't remind me of Hield whatsoever. He has way better handles already and can get where he wants to and score. Hield is much closer to THJ

Has there been any official reason why Josh Green isn't playing in summer league other than potentially not wanting to further deteriorate any trade value he might have in a package of players?

The official quote I saw was:
"We already know what we have in Josh. Taking reps from guys who have a chance to make a difference is more important than bricking every single 3pt shot in SL".

Made the trip to Vegas again this year to watch SL games over the weekend.
Hardy has potential no doubt but as you mentioned he's more of a volume shooter type guy right now.
Some of the buckets he was getting was nice but when you watch up close you can see the defense wasn't really nba level defense so I would also agree to scale back expectations.
I think he's about 2 years away from being rotation ready and defensively he really needs work from what I saw.
I must say SL is really cheap to attend games if people ever get to visit one and you do see a lot of current and older NBA players just roaming around. Christian Wood BTW is skinny as a toothpick in person LOL
I Guess that's why they signed McGee so he could handle the big C's.

Another good breakdown on Hardy.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6ra...channel=TREESE
I don't know if Hardy is 2 years away because he fills a specific need after losing Brunson. We need guys that can create their own shots and their own offense in general. THJ, Bullock, and DFS can't create their own shot for sh**. Green is a decent handler, but he can't shoot. Frank is also up and down. That puts all of the pressure on Luka and Spencer to run the team, and that's exactly where Hardy can fit.
I think Hardy could realistically average 8-10 ppg as long as he gets the minutes.

I can see all of them honestly. I guess I should say in that Summer League he played a lot like Bradley Beal. I heard things about how he attacks the rack and his handles but he must've worked on it because the guy I saw in SL was playing a lot like how Beal does. But this team could use all of the above lol. Especially on a rookie deal.

On another board someone posted that Hardy has a game like OJ Mayo. I would be happy if he hits that level (and stays off the drugs that ruined Mayo)
