Fingers crossed for Josh Green. He'll never reach his original Jaylen Brown ceiling, but hopefully he can be a poor mans Iggy.

Poor man's something. For sure. Right now it's poor man's Justin Anderson . At least he's a cut above Shan Foster!

I really like how they are upfront and honest about Cuban trying to avoid the luxury tax and how the Brunson issue was mishandled.
I don't want to say Luka is going to want out but I will say I don't think Luka is going to be as loyal as Dirk.
|
Seems like FO even managed to fumble a sign and trade trying to get a first out of the Brunson deal.

If anything that star that Luka made friends with would try to convince Luka to join their team. Luka making friends is not landing us a 2nd star in Dallas. Nothing will other than draft/trade. We are terrible in free agency.

Why would the Knicks offer a 1st when they signed Brunson outright? They didn?t have to give us anything, so they didn?t.
Edit: maybe I misread your post. Was it reported that the FO was trying to get a 1st the Knicks, or just fans saying we should get/ask for a 1st?

I am 100% sure the Mavs would have done the trade for just the trade exception. I believe the Knicks wanted a pick to facilitate since they did not need to do a sign and trade. It?s possible they wanted a 1st and Mavs told them to F off. JB could?ve done the team that drafted him and gave him a chance to shine under two different coaches and secure $100m deal a solid. But he didn?t. So F him.

I just don?t think you can come out and say we could have had both players when it requires a trade with another team.
Would another team have traded a late first for 2 high 2nds? Probably. It doesn?t matter now. There were 3 guys available who would have been difference makers, and the FO picked another guy who looks like a fringe NBA player.

I think Memphis leapfrogged us for Bane. They traded one pick in front of us. Could be that the other team called us and we called their bluff. And lost. Or they had Bane and TT and other guys still in the board in the same tier and were content taking whoever was left.

I was saying why would Mavs go in thinking they could pull a first out of the deal, Mavs should just try and get a trade exception or anything NY wants to throw your way and be grateful.

Greedy bastard Knicks, at the end of the day, they screwed us with KP, then this, asking for a 1st for an exception....Knicks come calling for help, tell to f off...
Agreed, Mavs could offer a conditional 2023 2nd rounder, condition that it be pick 60, it would be the Knicks pick, if not converted by 2023, then it disappears. Snt, really hurts no one, Knicks use the cap space they created for Brunson, we get a Trade Exception. At the end of the day, the Knicks should be dead to us in any future trade talks.

Huge improvements. Powell is now on the 3rd team, huge improvements. Now we don't have to run RB or DFS at the 4 for extended minutes, we can dictate the lineups. McGee/Wood/Kleber solid 4-5, good options to work with....Not having a Wood or McGee pigeon holed a lot of the things that we could do.
THJ, Dinwiddie an in shape Luka for the whole season. That's a quality top 8 in the rotation...

I'm still confused as to why fans are upset with JB.
He did what he thought was best for his career. We also have to take into consideration that Dallas initially didn't even want to offer him that initial contract back early in the season.
That's not JB's fault that is Cuban's for taking the gamble.
I will admit I was not a believer in JB early in his career but dude just kept getting better and under Kidd he just seemed to play with more confidence in his abilities.
So I wish him the best of luck because he didn't do anything wrong he was a UFA.
IN fact didn't Cuban take a similar gamble with Nash and he left kind of the same way as JB left.

How much of this do you guys think is true and might be reason why the Mavs will never be big FA attraction for the players?
https://www.si.com/nba/mavericks/new...-antetokounmpo
?[The Mavs] seek his input, but he?s not heavily involved in personnel decisions,? said MacMahon of Doncic's work alongside owner Mark Cuban, GM Nico Harrison, coach Jason Kidd and the rest of the organization. ?He has not shown interest in being heavily involved. He spends much of his offseason in Europe. He?s not a guy who has shown the desire to be a recruiter.?
Perhaps all of this ? NBA players? pettiness and Doncic lacking a desire to recruit ? will change at some point in the near future.

On one hand there are a lot of fans that reacted like a G/F broke up with them...like weird jealous vibes. On the other hand there are fans that don't care and see obvious holes in JBs game and how he fit here. It was about the asset with most knowledgeable fans.
Idk if it's Cubans fault for taking a gamble. It may be more Cubans fault for not taking a gamble. You just said yourself that you weren't a believer in JB. He wasn't near the same player that he is now (offensively) that he was when we needed to make that decision to extend.
JB made the right decision. He would have ended up being traded with no ability to decide where he landed. NY came after him hard, so it was an easier decision to make than it seemed to be a month or so ago. I have to agree with Sturm that he woukdnt have finished his contract here. The problem remained, because he can't defend guards and gets lost on fundamental defensive plays. Bottom line is, you can't have that playing next to Luka...who also can't defend guards.

I think it's huge. Both are white, did not go through the AAU program here, no high school ball. So socially they are behind the 8 ball. They look like Woody Harrelson, not Wesley Snipes, so assumptions are made. It's a racial thing, it happened to Dirk, no big name free agents came here in their prime during Dirk's run, who wants to share the spotlight with a white guy? Jeremy Lin ran through the same thing, didn't look the part, doesn't belong, so he's out of the league.....even though he has a bit more to offer than a Goran Dragic. They would rather sign up with Harden or Irving, known basket cases.

The loss of the asset is where it begins. That's enough to make this a complete disaster. You don't really have to be very knowledgeable to understand that.

The Dallas Mavericks superstar made media waves last week when he was seen partying on stage with Goran Dragic and Shaquille O?Neal in Croatia. O?Neal was visiting Europe on a small party tour as ?DJ Diesel.? Now, Shaq is spilling the details of the trip on his podcast. ?Shoutout to Luka,? O?Neal said on The Big Shaqstrumental. ?When I arrived in Luka?s town some people picked me up, they drove me to a mansion that Luka had set up for me. I had the pizza there, I had the hookah there, I had the fruit, they escorted me to the show. ?Luka said ?Shaq, ain?t nothing going to happen to you when you?re in my town, Mr. O?Nealovich? ? that?s what they called me. So shoutout to Luka and Goran Dragic because their people really set it up for me.? ? via Dalton Trigg @ Sports Illustrated

Fans are upset with JB because fans will collectively always take the side of ownership against players. It is the American mentality to favor ownership over labor even if 99.99 percent will never be the ownership class. We are conditioned to tell the players to "shut up and dribble" while happily funding the owners stadiums with tax dollars (I guess that isn't considered welfare). We fancy ourselves as the billionaires instead of the more attainable millionaires.

You're making stuff up here. Mavs fans haven't really been favoring the FO for years now...certainly not on here and not really on twitter either. ESPECIALLY when it comes to free agency. They've made some decent trades, but the FA track record the last few years has been well documented as terrible.
But Brunson didn't even let a meeting happen with the FO in NY. Blame can go all around, sure, but that's kinda shitty when we just went to the WCF.

Agreed, if you were the Rockets, you do what they do with Wall, but not the Lakers, deep in taxes, no draft picks. Probably still one of the top duos in the league.....if HE can stay healthy.

Yeah I never understood it. Fans get upset that a player does what's best for him and we blame him over ownership who really caused this mess.
