I'm still worried about a lack of ball handlers.

welp - now what...
We replaced the Mavs of 2 years ago of KP, Jalen Brunson, Trey Burke, WCS and Boban
-with-
Christian Wood, Spencer Dinwiddie, Reggie Bullock, JaVale McGee and Davis Bertans.
I think this will make our team much better because it makes us more versatile, athletic and a lot taller.
There isn't a rotation player shorter than Bullock now.
REALLY looking forward to the season!

My concern is not SD in the starting group, but rather if you have he and Luka starting, you need trust in the ball handler coming off the bench. God forbid one of those 2 goes down and misses games.

It's like the Mavs somehow didn't learn from the Jazz series. If Brunson wasn't on the team, then we are out in the first round.
Need another ball handler.

I'm cautiously optimistic that Dorsey can contribute a little and SD can step up with a full training camp and season under his belt. Dorsey has had a season of averaging 21mpg and averaged 17-6-3 per 36 at the NBA level so that's something.
SD was also awesome in flashes with two 26-pt games out of three against the Suns. He had a stinker every-other game, but that's how THJ is and if THJ and SD can alternate their stinkers on different nights, we'll have a flamethrower every single game (SD shot 50/40/73 last season).
I'm not as super hyped as I would be with a bigger name and I still think we saw our guard position downgraded, but there is still some reason to be optimistic.
I also think Wood is going to be all all-star who will average 27-11-2 for us.

What concerns me, and probably some others, will be the numerous times SD and THJ will likely have "stinkers" on the same night. That is the pessimist view
I still think Schroder is our best chance to address the void of another ball handler.

So personally I think Schroder ensures a great season. He is the perfect insurance piece.
Now, I'm guessing the reason the Mavs don't want him is defense. I can see that. Luka and SD are already mediocre to sometimes subpar defenders. Hard to match last season defensively when you've also added a not good at d Wood.
Problem is our defenders can't handle the ball for sh**. Green and Frank can make plays, but they can't run an offense to save their lives. And they're better than Bullock and DFS in that regard.
If that is the case that they don't want a poor defensive guard, then you can forget someone like Kemba Walker as well.

They shouldn't be worried about a backup PGs defense IMO.

Yeah, Brunson wasn't a good defender so it shouldn't hurt them.
Guys like Green, Frank Bullock and Maxi will be on 2nd unit so they,ll need offense.
I'm hoping Bullock, Maxi, Green, Frank, and DFS take their offensive games to another level because we are starving for some 2 way players.

Brunson played turrble team defense. It was highly frustrating.
I think Frank and Green are the only ones who have big leap potential. Maxi is probably at his ceiling...DFS and Bullock probably are too.

One of my biggest concerns with the absence of Brunson is that Hardaway will try to take on a much bigger role and that could very likely become a disaster.
You're right, Frank and Green (and maybe Hardy) have to take huge steps to help keep that from happening.

I still don?t get why we are not exploring Dennis Schroeder.
Low risk, high reward!

I mean there are multiple rumors that we're interested. I'm not sure why you'd say we aren't when all the rumors are saying we're at least trying
Lakers are just favorites and it all comes down to Westbrook. He's gumming up the system, because if he stays, Schroder will be free to come to Dallas. If he somehow get's traded, the Lakers want Dennis.
But Westbrook is also tied to Mitchell/Kyrie trades. Lakers are trying to pawn Westbrook off as part of those trades. They're not going to accept that they have to keep Westbrook until it's clear that they have to.

ESPN voted us with the worth offseason. They have long been lacking with credibility, but I wouldn't totally poo poo it. We do need another ball handler.
Problem with waiting til the deadline is you risk running Luka and Spencer to death with the playmaking load. You're basically screwed if one of them gets hurt.

Idk what's worse,
* Ball Handler issues.
* Wood coming off the bench.

You guys will think I'm nuts, but bring in Westbrook. We aren't contenders anyways as constructed.
THJ, Bertan, Powell
for
Westbrook, Reaves, FRP
Lakers get some shooters around Bron. Mavs gain long-term flexibility.

I want no part of WB, but you have to at least consider the financial gain in that scenario. Pretty sure we would have a max spot open next summer depending on who they included.
Of course, the Mavs suck at FA, so there is that.

Three players I never want to see in a Mavs uniform...
Kyrie Irving
James Harden
Michael Westbrook
Trade for any of those 3 and you might as well start fielding offers for Luka.

The free agents available put the Mavs right back to the current situation.

I do not know if he is available, but T.J. McConnell would be a good addition to the Mavs. Pacers are in major rebuilding mode and it seems that a seasoned vet with a three year contract might be expendable. Perhaps if they could also throw in Daniel Theis and get something back like Powell + Josh Green.

J/k.... I think we're not that much worse than last season. THJ was hurt, Bertans was streaky, Powell has been replaced by Wood...
RWB is our second ball handler and fills in the usage hole left by JB. At the end of the year he comes off the books and we're back to plan powder with the bad salaries off.

As a lifelong fan, I'm all about profit!
But seriously, plan powder makes me nauseous. The only confidence I have is in making trades.

Doesn?t matter if the Mavs had 100 million in space. It won?t get us players in free agency. Cuban is still the owner. I watched a lot of lakers last year. It cannot be overstated how bad Westbrook is.

He?s this generations AI. He doesn?t change his game to a role player because he wants to be a ball dominant PG. Going to go from league MVP, to journeyman, to out of the league in 5 years. He doesn?t see anything wrong with his game, and therefore won?t change.

If the Jazz can ask for 5 FRPs and some talent for Gobert
and
a couple of starters and three FRPs for Mitchell
I can only imagine that they'll try to get two FRPs for Conley/Bogda

For the record I only want
1) Vanderbilt - incredibly talented and hard working big whose best game is ahead of him
2) Clarkson - score-first guard who is a jackass but a hell of a scorer. Could be our bench sparkplug
That's it.
Conley - defensive PG who has lost his defensive abilities. Not that great creating.
Bogs - just terrible defensively. It's never had to have another shooter, but I dont want to pay whatever the Jazz are asking

Also agree, and I'm quite glad karma bit Brunson and the Knicks in the ass.
I really only care about an insurance ball handling guard at this point. DSJ or Schroder fit perfectly in that regard.
