Wood and Green should've been in there instead of Maxi and SD.... we're letting Damion Lee kill us

missed FT's and poor coaching have hampered us...
Kidd may just need time to figure things out or maybe that's just me bitching for him to make changes faster. Do we chalk this one up to him just letting the guys play through their mistakes? either way it's frustrating

Turnovers, losing their aggressiveness, playing Maxi too much, and not using timeouts earlier in the runs all lead to this meltdown.

Surely we can do better than switching maxi onto booker and dinwiddie/bullock/THJ onto ayton...

Missed FTs were huge, especially the two late the SD missed followed by a Phoenix three pointer.

I don't understand why the Mavs stopped being aggressive. In the first half they were driving to the hoop and the FT disparity was huge. When they've drove to the hoop the 2nd half they've had good results.

It?s only game 1, but that hurts after being up so big in the first half. Missed free throws killed them.

Miss Jalen.
Kidd sucks.
Maxi was bad.
Wood is easily the second best player.

I'm more bothered by them giving up a 15 point lead midway through the 4th quarter than the 22 point lead they had early in the third.

I don't understand why Kidd had Wood on the bench for pretty much the rest of the game after he was playing so well.

Free throws
Mavs 61.8%
Suns 86.4%
That's the only stat that really matters because we win if we shoot any better.

It?s almost like they need a guard who can get within 10 ft of the basket at will and score with top 5 efficiency. Maybe they?ll find one in the 2nd round.

it's just one game but from up close watching it Josh Green is a terrific defender on ball defender.
I know most fans don't care about that if he can't make shots but man if you use this guy as a just a utility defender 12-16 mpg he has value IMO.
Wood looked terrific but good lawd he needs to worj on those FT's
Spencer actually surprised me and played well until fouls took him out the game early in that 2nd half.
Mavs need a backup PG in the worse way

No need to tear into different other weaknesses when we easily win this game with a decent FT %.
C Wood albeit playing great may have lost us this game.
4-7 from 3 and 3-10 FT is a joke. How can you be better at shooting 3s during action than shooting FT without interference.

No brainer that Wood is the 2nd best player and he should be starting to maximize mins with Luka. I'm still putting SD or Reggie on the bench. You take Wood out at 6 mins left in 4th quarter and we dry up while over exposing Maxi. He played from 6 min mark on through the finish. I would have gone back to McGee for a bit to defend and rebound.
Missed free throws hurt but Wood carried us with like 14 (?)straight points in the 4th. The rotation is fn clown shoes and it was always going to be.
I figured our defense would have luls for a bit but if we are going to leave Maxi in as the only big because they think he can defend switches, then we will get killed on the boards. He clumsily missed a few key rebounds.
Get through a few games and realize this rotation wasn't the best approach make adjustments or just hope some of the same guys miraculously change their stripes.
The Suns had a cpl guys make good plays and got lucky. Lee was defended well and hut that fade away over SD while being stuck in quicksand. Just launched backwards and had it fall. Then Luka hero 3 instead of a head down attack.
Its one game and it sucks to give it away with tactical decisions after being up so big but I think they'll tighten things up and figure it out. We were pretty good on bounce back games after losses.

I'll do glass half empty since we lost.
McGee was supposed to provide defense and rebounding. Defense is OK, but he shouldn't be starting over Wood. Sad that we're so bad at FA that we had to promise him a starting spot. His state line was Dwight Powell-esque but the lob dunks weren't there.
THJ is still the same bad player that he was last year before getting hurt.
Wood getting 24 minutes isn't going to last and better not. I just don't really know what they are thinking with him. He is clear and away the second best player.
I'm actually not surprised we lost. We're still a better team then they are, and they needed every ounce of their being to beat us in a home opener.

I'm not sure Luka will ever be a good 3 pt shooter. He is a volume shooter, and he still takes bad shots. Don't play hero ball. Play smart ball.

spot on.
also agree with
Dalton Trigg@dalton_trigg
I don?t care whether C-Wood starts or not (although he probably should be starting eventually). But I do care if he?s not playing at least 30 mpg. He?s too talented not to imo. I think he?s fully bought in.

Again, Wood would be starting if not for having to promise an aging backup center the starting spot to come here.

Had this debate with you before
Wood, Dinwiddie and Luka is a bad defensive lineup no matter how uch offense they give you.
Mavs aren't getting any stops with that tandem all on the floor together.
The most impressive defensive lineup I saw last night was with Luka surrounded by McGee, DFS, Bullock and Green.
I'm actually surprised Kidd didn't use it more because they were clamping down Phoenix.
I have no problem with those 3 on the floor together if you're struggling offensively but if go that route for long stretches of games get ready for shootouts and if shots aren't falling for us it's going to get ugly giving up layups on the other end of the floor.
From watching that game last night though if Wood makes his FT's like I said earlier we aren't even having these discussions after just one game.
The worst payer IMO yesterday by far was THJ

Lets not forget that it was a "revenge" game too.
I went to bed at halftime and we were up big. So I expected to wake up to a win. So that was disappointing.
