GDT: game 2/82 - Grizz (2-0) at Mavs (0-1) 7:30p NBATV/Bally
Mavs are in the middle of a tough stretch. Suns->Grizz->Pels->Nets all while they're trying to integrate new faces and establish rotations.
Grizz are on a B2B after toasting OKC last night, but B2Bs historically don't show much advantage for the rested team early in the season when legs are fresh.
Mavs have two days of rest and are playing in their first game at home.
injuries
Frank and Davis are out for us
Dillon Brooks is questionable for them, otherwise have no significant injuries.
Go Mavs!

poor David Roddy... not sure why they've thrown him into the deep end... i mean he's big and athletic for his size but he's a rook...

A few of us tried to tell y?all to cool it on Hardy.
He?s got a ways to go.
Like Dorsey though. He?s earning himself minutes.

Wood is the best big man we've ever had outside of Dirk.

I know this was a lopsided win but after blowing a huge lead in our first game, it was nice to see them close it out and never let them back in it. Some key stats:
52-29 - When's the last time we dominated rebounding by that margin?
94.4% - Luka's FT% through 2 games on 17/18
12 of 14 - Wood's FT shooting tonight in contrast to 3/10 the other night

I mean yeah, the offense was clicking all around. I fear what happens when everyone isn't in their groove. That's why you can't be serious about only playing Wood 25 minutes. He is THE guy to keep the offense going when Luka isn't grooving.

Wood Ft are encouraging but I still expect him to be in the upper 60s. 70% would be nice.
Great to see them learn from game 1 and come out firing.
Wood needs 30 minutes.
I would look at Dorsey in spot minutes too as point guard.

It?s only been two games but Wood is averaging 25/10/3 on 56/50/63
Only weaknesses are FTs in his offensive game

Dorsey has a smooth looking stroke. Wouldn?t mind seeing what he can do in meaningful minutes.

After years of Dwight Powell and Maxi, Wood and Javale are a revelation.

It's been a minute but no love for Roy Tarpley?
Hope he keeps it up - the overall skillset is there. Loved seeing him pump fake and then attack the basket. Seems to have good hands. If he can punish smaller defenders on switches in the post as he's done - more of that please.
There were a few times it seemed like Luka just gave him the ball and basically said - you take it. and he did. couldn't tell if they were running some sort of set play or if it was just freelancing. how much in game rest will luka get if he doesn't have to do everything on every possession?

hear hear... as lower down the bench players they're going to be great. Javale only played his usual 14-15 minutes but it's nice to have a big who can challenge size wise on defense and rebounding. Ja made several of his shots driving against the middle with Mcgee out there but most of them were contested and not just a layup or dunk.

You can't really form any realistic opinion on Hardy based on 6 garbage time minutes

With other guys who were also trying to stat pad in garbage minutes. Hardy will benefit more by playing with the upper guys...not guys trying to get any minute they can get.

but we could from team practice?
turned it over twice on his own and was 0-
at least he's aggressive, but we've been saying it will take time and potential is there. some thought he'd be racking 15 mpg out the gate as the third ball handler based on him getting a layup on maxi lol
edit: ftr i think his time is coming, but it could be a full season or next season when he makes the jump

I'm glad I wasn't here when Dirk Nowitzki put up 0-5, 0-1 from three, and -4 in his rookie season

I mean, it's a single injury away from Hardy getting minutes because that's just how the team is made up. If Green or Spence gets hurt, then Hardy is playing. Simple as that.
So it's less Hardy is Beal 2.0 and more well what other options are there? I guess we will see if this Facu guy can play.

Is anyone really surprised by Wood? I thought 20/10 was pretty much expected because he is replacing Brunson and filling in a huge void in the middle. Oh and because he is just really good.

Crying in the club right now seeing Bane rip off 38 points vs the Nets.

*sigh* I know. People talk about the Porzingis trade being disastrous for the Mavs in retrospect, but the Josh Green pick IMO has been far more detrimental. At least in the KP trade we got not only the best player, but the two best players in the deal. And ultimately we ended up getting Dinwiddie out of it. Getting nothing out of that one draft where we had a decent-ish pick though? That was catastrophic.

lol which trade? The trade to acquire him or the the trade to get rid of him? They were both good trades.

Pretty unfair to call Josh Green nothing, I'd say. Has he been what we had hoped to be? No, but he's also damn near 3 years younger than Bane. And from my collection of watching Grizz games, especially when the Mavs play them, is that Bane doesn't do a whole bunch else aside from his offense. At least we can trust Green to be a good to above average defender 1-3.

Tim is doubtful for tonight's game. 25 minutes to be filled.

His first two years were basically nothing. I don't think I'm being unfair at all. If we had drafted Bane, Maxey, or Bey instead of Green, I think we'd be a LOT closer to a championship than we are now. And to say that he hasn't been what we hoped he would be is a massive understatement. Now we're only two games into year 3, but he hasn't shown much of anything yet, and if he doesn't show major improvement by year 3, the odds are very low that it will happen for him at all.
As for Bane "not do a whole bunch else aside from his offense..." In the NBA, who cares? Offense matters so much more than defense in today's NBA. The dude's averaging 20. He's a baller. Josh Green? Well.... I'm crossing my fingers hoping he might actually be a productive NBA players someday.
