Mavs are -5.5
Blazers last road game before going home. Vegas knows something I think Mavs win somehow.

10-38 from 3 tonight, 26%. While Portland is 39%. Wouldn't even be a game if not for this.

Dimwiddie 6-8 from 3, the rest of the team was awful from 3 but good enough.
6-1 at home 1-4 on the road.

So is Green's 6 points still better than Tim's 16? Asking for a friend.
And Powell 2 points, 2 rebounds -15...Just..Start...Wood. It's comical at this point.
Yeah Spence has been good, but we still need something more. Won this with some miracle shots at the end there. DFS and Reggie need to be reminded that the season has indeed begun.

In the offseason everyone thought Powell was gone I said "nope, Cuban's movie buddy" and here he is STARTING lol.
Cuban is worse than Jerry Jones I swear.
I thought McGee was promised a starting job not a dnp job?

Only liked the McGee signing as a WCS replacement and thought we never fully filled the FC situation from the beginning.
I'd like to see Wood start as a PF and get a true starting caliber center. Not sure why Kidd thought he'd be a starter at 34 when we had him in his prime and could barely see the floor.
I think McGee is actually becoming another WCS....no interest in the game and virtually unplayable.
Tonight was probably more about matchups though.

I still think we have too many of the Green/DFS/Bullock/Maxi/Frank type of players. Or at least too many in too large of roles.
Green, DFS, Bullock and Maxi combined for 18 points which didn't even add up to our 3rd best scoring output (Wood 19) and only a couple points more than our 4th (THJ 16).
We should get at least 30 from those 4 considering the amount of minutes they are collectively playing.
Gotta get more consistent offensive production out of at least one of them per game.
And we only got 10 points total from 3 of our starters which is another issue.

Luka in the 1st Quarter:
14 Points
5 Rebounds
6 Assists
1 Steal
1 Block
60% FG
Luka recorded his 20th career 20p-5r-5a half, the most since he entered the league in 2018-19.
19 of his 20 instances have come since 2019-20, placing him well ahead of Nikola Jokić (10) and James Harden (10) for most 20p-5r-5a halves since the start of that season.
Luka Doncic tonight:
42 Points
13 Rebounds
10 Assists
59% FG
Luka picked up tech No. 4 of the season.

The only defense to not starting wood by Coop on twitter was because the bench needed scoring. That is such insanely flawed thinking because then you're taking it out of the starting lineup. If the bench sucks, then the bench sucks. Putting a starter on the bench doesn't actually improve the team overall IMO. And the three starters of DFS, Bullock, and Powell this game couldn't score to save their lives. So you NEED that scoring in the starting lineup.

Wood needs to be in the starting lineup. The way you compensate for his presence is by starting Green/ Bullock, DFS, and Maxi as well.

Barring a trade, which I think is what this squad really needs, here's what I would roll with as far as rotation:
Luka/Dinwiddie/DFS/Maxi/Wood
then
Green/THJ/Bullock/Powell/McGee
Obviously will have to manage minutes to keep a ballhandler out there. My mention of a trade would be to primarily to find a better 3rd ballhandling option and/or rolling partner with Luka. The best option I have seen so far has been some combo with the Pacers. Myles Turner and TJ McConnell are the top targets for me. But I'd be very interested in nabbing Buddy Hield if THJ is somehow involved.

The bad news is that we have no assets. Not a lot of young talent (and we need young talent) and the earliest FRP we can trade this season is 2025
The good news is that teams will be tanking. Most teams will fake injuries and rest guys, but some teams may not want some expensive vets. Pacers may trade Turner. Rockets would be stupid not to trade Gordon.
The biggest problem is McGee. If he stepped in and dominated, we would have a really sweet expiring trade chip to net us something (Powell), but McGee so far as been terrible enough that we might need to keep Powell through the TDL
Mavs FRPs
2025
2027
Mavs expirings
Wood - Hopefully we can re-sign. If he wants out, we need to trade him for something.0
Powell - nice piece in trade, but we may need him unless there is a huge positive turn for McGee. Even then, he's insurance
Frank - not a lot of market, but he is decent salary ballast
Compazzo - no market other than expiring
Pinson - no market other than expiring

Agree!
There is no reason to not at least try to see how the chemistry with Wood in the SL would work out.
Can't have nights when 3 of your starters can only get you 10 points combined. And that could happen frequently with any 3 of Powell/McGee/DFS/Bullock/Green/Frank in the SL.
The fact that our top 4 scorers aren't very good defenders adds to that dilima.

You say no assets and then list a few lol I know what you mean, though.
However, I really hope our FO is aggressive. Every year it feels like there's a trade made in the NBA and I get a "that's it?" reaction. They could easily upgrade this roster if they choose to do so. Now, if they do or not will be telling, but I don't think this roster wins a championship, and honestly feel they could be a piece or two away.
Here's to hopping there's a good number of bottom dweller teams and the cream rises faster this year. Would open up a lot of scenarios to improve.

Hopefully some of these bottom feeders start tanking early to get in the Victor sweepstakes, and are looking to unload some decent talent.
