Mavs-ish at Cavs
Luka Dončić (quad) is out
Spencer Dinwiddie (knee) is out
Josh Green (elbow) is out
Dwight Powell (thigh) is out
Maxi Kleber (hamstring) is out
Davis Bertāns (non-Covid illness) is questionable.

Does Pinson or Wright IV start? That?s the real question.
We know it won?t be Hardy

Really surprised Luka is out. Only played 3 quarters thought he?d be rested.
NBA has to eliminate b2bs. Just shorten the season. 75 games

Walker shoots 80% from FT Line
Wonder if Mavs will make him a situational FT shooter in 4th qtr's down the road

Hardy off to a rough start, but damn...we are only down 2.
Kemba looking great. Can he stay healthy?

Kemba might have solved that 3rd Ball Handler role
Dude can still flat-out score
Wasn't impressed with Hardy or Pinson and Walker can stay healthy and play this way for 16 MPG the Mavs might just need that one good defensive big who can rebound, and rim protect because Powell, Wood and Kleber just can't hold up defensively

Who cares? We shouldn't even be in this game.
And here we are, leading by 5.
I think the Wood needs to start question has been answered.

Ugh, that sucks. Guys played hard and well. Tough matchup at the end there, thought maybe he should drive it both times but oh well.

I know we had no business winning this one but damn we've lost quite a few games by 1 or 2 points.

Losing like that is the worst. But hey, we have our third ball handler.

What if Kemba was just hurt the last few years and we just got ourselves a stud for next to nothing?
I'm problem dreaming.

That means he's likely to get hurt again this year, but good news is he is the third guard.
Then again, if he keeps playing like this, then who knows. Maybe he can actually fill in the Brunson role.
I would actually like to see Spence come off the bench again if possible.

Tragic ending. No time out call, wtf. Figures we end up with no one cutting, everyone standing around the 3pt line when we are down by 1. Instead of Thj flooring the ball and going to thr rim he wants to pull up for a 3. Then Wood panics and throws up an airball with 3 seconds left instead of moving the ball. Before that, Kemba had Wood wide open on the slip and instead wedged a highly contested mid range shot.
Fumbles all around from coaching to execution, regardless if we weren't supposed to even be in the game or not.
Maybe Kemba can provide some much needed relief as the extra guard. He played solid defense too.

My only frustration is the teams inability to conjure a good look at the end of games. Down 1 let?s only try for deep threes? Kidd is just not good at those situations.

I give Kidd a small pass because he started Wood and played guys we desperately need to keep the season going in the right direction. Hand forced, sure, but better than not doing it.
But his coaching regression is alarming. He wasn't this bad last season. Common sense stuff as well.

Very in line with his stint in Milwaukee. You?d think it would be different but I?m not sure he?s learned much from then to now.

A small pass for starting Wood when half the team was out including the usual starter Powell?

Yea, I'm not giving Kidd a small pass for starting Wood. He was probably slamming clipboards around the office because there was no one else.
We were never going to win that game. The only reason it was close is becuase Cle was very off and Kemba had a one off resurgent game. I would have played Hardy about 10 mins more and not hooked him barely into the 4th.

I think Dinwiddie needs to go back to the bench and run the 2nd unit again. Insert Wood into the SL for the offensive lag. Can Wood and Powell run together? I don't know what their minutes look like.
But a SL of Luka, THJ, DFS, Wood, and Powell could work, but could also get torched by smaller guards. Would love to sub Powell out for a healthy Green, but fear Wood could get punished by solid bigs. Think he's earned the chance upping his defense lately.

I'm not crazy about Wood playing next to another big man. Mavs did the same thing with KP (Powell), and it made little sense to me. I get not having a serious shot blocker with Wood, but a swarming defense can work. Looked fine in this game. Rebounding the main issue.
And Powell isn't providing much of anything anymore anyway.

Wood is a decent PF and a terrible C
There?s a reason his best 5-man units are with Maxi
I half wonder if the plan was to put him with McGee but McGee is just such trash that he was now playing with Maxi until the injury

Cavs- 26/14/2/2/2 +11
But go on...

Yea, Wood's been solid the last two. It could be an interesting turn to the year and obviously depends on returns of Green, Powell, and Maxi and how the SL and rotation works.
