just another example of why this team seriously needs a 2nd option
Wood, Dinwiddie and THJ just can't lift a team up even vs lower tier teams
Need to go hard after Lavine and give Luka a legit 2nd stud

lol
was he supposed to play well?
I think there's just too much hype for a guy that shoots 35% on the season.
I get it when you get a new pair of shoes you get excited until realize those shoes are still pretty like most of the shoes still in your closet.

There's a clear takeaway from this.
This was another perfect example of who we are. A team that is 100% carried by one of the best players ever to play the game.
The roster sucks. Same old guys doing the same old shit. Add Luka back in the roster and we eek out a win vs a bad team. Its nothing new and we don't need to know anything more about this build. Period.

I don't think we're a great team but who is really that scary in the West? It's up for grabs this year.

This game was circled as a loss. We're not good without Luka. Thought that was something that everyone pretty much understood at this point.
And yeah, Hardy's game looks bad until you look at the rest of do nothing bench. The reality is we need to let this kid have bad games and not overreact to it. Even 20 year olds are tired on short quick b2b. Key is to let him learn from his mistakes and keep playing him. I wasn't crazy about some of the lineups Kidd was running with him either. He played him with Wright and Frank at one point. Wright has been unplayably bad the last four games.
Again, circled loss. They will take the Clippers game seriously.

Regarding Hardy, those lineups were tough. IMO, he should be the one driving and handling the ball more than THJ. Thj was bricking layups and clunky off the drive. He also took a lot of bad shots and never looked to pass. Hard could have had at least 3 more assists last night if Frank, Thj and a cpl other hit open shots.
Fully agree that you have to keep playing him after games like this. It wasn't a bad game, we just don't have enough talent to create and convert on chances to score.

Any team without their bonafide star isn't going to be good. I think the only ones with success when the stars sits has been MIL and PHI without Giannis and Embiid. Those are the only comps we can call when complaining about this roster IMO. Mavs Muse posted something to this effect but I'd love to see the opponent's win % in those games before drawing any conclusion.
I actually kind of like watching these games. Especially last night as it gave us a longer look at Hardy. He certainly struggled down the stretch and that's OK. He's a 20 year old rookie who will have struggles.
What I simply can't stand is Dinwiddie's complete lack of efficiency when running point and this offense. The guy is an off-ball creator and nothing more. The fact that the FO came into this season so confident in him being the 2nd ballhandler and facilitator should have egg on their face. Save me the Brunson re-hash, there were other options to at least recognize his shortcomings there and if he was going to be the 2nd guy, then you sure as hell better get a strong 3rd piece.
That player isn't on the team. Not Hardy, not Frank, and not Green when he comes back. They need to finally call themselves on this misstep and go out and make a trade.
Edit: I should have ranted more...Dinwiddie pounds the air out of the ball and calls for multiple screens before making up his damn mind. That doesn't work within this system where ball movement and/or penetration is key to opening up shots. He missed m any occassions to pass out of the screen, even if the next guy isn't the end of the sequence. It was call for screen, dribble into double team, back out, call for another screen...
fucking MADDENING lol

Yeah, long term I want Spencer off the bench. It's strange because he puts up decent stats, yet I always feel like he is invisible on the court. Does anyone else get that sense?

Spencer is a 3rd, 4th or 1st bench option. I don't blame SD for the FO error. The fact that he's the 2nd best (proven) creator on this team says a lot about the build this FO has rolled out there after losing JB. If we kept playing Hardy quality mins for the remainder of this season, I think he could pass SD by start of next season. Idk if that is saying a lot tbh. Everyone aside from Luka, Hardy, Green and Wood are what they are going to be IMO.

Dinwiddie has been solid and I think his improved shooting has anchored that. Perhaps as SMC said we should look to the FO more, and I would agree. But SD has been a positive for us but it is apparent that he is not the answer as the #2 guy at least from a ball-handling, run the offense perspective. I think he'd be fantastic as the 3rd guy and it's why I'm warming up to a Lavine type of trade or the newest rumor of swapping LaVert for THJ.

I don't know man... Memphis was 10 and 2 without Ja last year of course they were smart enough to draft Desmond Bane.

20-5 if you want to make a point, go ahead and make it correct. Their run befuddled many "experts" last year and was flukish.
That said, I'm not denying that Bane and Maxey are key components to their team when Ja or Embiid are out. They also have a lot more help around them. Again, not an endorsement of the job this FO has done in building around Luka.
Same season, Mavs were 8-9 without Luka. All losses against playoff teams save the 1-point loss @ SAC. I'd say that's not too shabby. The start to this year being 0-4 is a small sample size but indicative of a poorer roster as the losses include a couple ugly ones.
Still, if a team is missing their top-end star, it's historically going to result in much worse play and generally well below .500.
