Lively is the real deal on defense though. His timing on guarding defenders and switching will eventually be elite.

And the chemistry he has with Luka is palpable.
Mavs had no spacing because the entire team was a mess. Even if we were clicking, Wolves have a crazy big rotation with KAT and Gobert, but if we could hit the three, then spacing is going to open up for him and he'll be less prone to fouls.
He still showed that he has the seed of something there.
The problem is that it's going to be a bumpy road, but if he's starting and playing 15mpg, maybe he can play 20mpg by the ASB and 25 by the end of the year.

Holmes hasn't been touted as the answer. I think the only thing standing in the way of him being a great contributor is Kidd. I have him slotted to surprise anyone who thinks he is done, but definitely not our answer as a big.

Yeah, Luka seems to love this guy and that is the important thing. Lively will be fine...just a question of when.
Still think we need a cheap stop gap legit sized center until Lively becomes a 25+ min starter or rotation player.

And he's still a better rebounder than Powell when given minutes to play or start.
We've seen Holmes avg 10 points and 8 rebounds over the course of full season as a starter at center
We've never seen Powell avg 8 rebounds in any season
Holmes also has an underrated offensive game around the rim
He's not reliant on just lobs to score. He actually has a semblance of am offensive game with a good floater
Powell ain't doing nothing unless Luka spoon feeds him with lobs and he's not much of a lob threat anymore

Mavs allowing 59% and 66% from three so even when we can score, it?s boring because we?re down so much. I know it?s preseason but it?s the same thing we saw last year. We?re just stagnant and frustrating and boring.

This is just embarrassing
Allowing 59% and 67%
Shooting 32% and 23% and only 60% on FTs

This is the least Watchable team in the league
Clanked guarded three one side
Allowing wide open layup on the other
Team is broken on both sides

Ha Luka hits a three and the entire team goes ham
Mavs immediately let one of their spares answer
Then Luka can?t even inbound it without getting his third TO
Doesn?t matter what our stars do

Hardy is always going to be a hot and cold player, but he's still insanely good when hot.
Also our leading rebounder.

I know it's just preseason but this team still lacks talent
I really don't see the point of having some of same damn veteran players on this roster year after year.
They are maxed out talent wise and at this point the only way see this team contending out west is if they unload some of those vets to bring in another legit starting player.

But that's why you play the rookies and young guys because you have no other choice.
And if Kidd doesn't stick to that, then I can't see him lasting the season.

Yeah preseason but it looks like the same boring ass no defense team as last year. Feels like a long one incoming and Kidd will not be the one to take the roster anywhere but a play in at best.

Luka and Kyrie as guards... that team will always be poor defensively

If you have 2 superstar guards who play 0 D, you have to surround them with defensive studs.
We have some decent defenders, but nothing compared to what is required to make up for those two liabilities.
You would have thought Cuban would have learned from the 2011 championship putting all of those defensive studs around Dirk and Terry.

Luka and Irving can coexist fine offensively, but defensively it's going to be a mess. Even with Lively who is a sure upgrade from DP, We look lethargic defensively.
We still lack 2 way players. Swapping Irving for a 2 way guard with size would be an option I would pursue.

This is why trading Hardy was a non-starter.
Doesn't sound good from what Kidd is saying. Says the "soreness is growing." Yeesh.

On one hand, Kyrie should be fine for the opener. But on the other hand, damn it, they were excited to have an offseason to gel. Luka and Kyrie, specifically, but the whole team.

Luka only playing 5 minutes with a left calf strain.
Great to start the season with our two stars hurt.

Weird that we've had three different starters
OMax, Green, and now DJJ
If DJJ can hit an outside shot, he's a hustle defender and easily our best rebounder at the wing until OMax develops.

In one preseason half, Lively has had as many or more blocks than the entire Mavs team had in an entire game combined in 1/4 of the games last year

Lively's defensive IQ is the best I think I've ever seen on this team. He knows where the ball, his man, and all the other team's players are at all times.
And he is a wicked fast learner.
Weird seeing Hardy only get 5 minutes, but they probably can't risk another guard injury for silly preseason.
