Bullock was pretty good his first year with us. He just fell off a cliff last year.

Stein:
Lively is a starter unless he messes up
Josh Green is looking like he deserves the big bucks. That?s a story to follow, although unlike Brunson, Green would be a RFA
Portland has no interest in the packages we can offer for Jrue

This will never happen here. Kidd has too many crutches. You have to literally take them away from him or he will over use them. DP and THJ will be in the same role

Damn Boston going to be tough if KP can stay healthy for a playoff run. I agree that?s a good haul for Portland. Can they still move Brogdon?

Just what I was thinking, but maybe Cronin is still sour from our Thybuille offer.

Unfortunately I think he fits the new Blazer timeline so they are probably keeping him unless blown away by an offer

I would wager that Brogdon will be back on the move. At 30 he doesn't meet their timeline and he could maybe net a FRP or a couple of SRPs.
Williams? He's only 25, great contract, and would be an excellent backup to Ayton. I'm not entirely sure they will shop him.

I mean, it's hard to predict any season, but it's hard to see the Mavs as any sort of contender.
I'm ok with that as long as we develop the young guys. Green, Hardy, Omax, and Lively all need to see heavy minutes.

Ayton (25)/ Williams (25)/ Brown (23)
Grant (29) / Camara (23)
Sharpe (20)/ Thybulle (26)
Simons (24)/ Rupert (19)
Scoot (19)
That is a sneaky good and young core and they have a ton of picks in the next six years too. Nico may have competition for GM of the year.

Really depends on what you mean by "contender"
Are they winning a championship this year? I wouldn't bet more than $20 on that.
Do they have a good chance of getting to the playoffs and maybe even getting to the second round? I'd wager $100 on that and that would be a huge success.
If we get 48-50 wins and play some playoff basketball with our young guys continuing to improve, then we are back in the playoffs and the youth and chemistry is what defines success and gives us that forward momentum.

Ha! Embiid is commenting on the offseason. Sixers are collapsing in slow motion. If you gave me decent odds I would bet $50 on Embiid being traded in the next year.

Also F the Heat. Acted like the same entitled brats that we played in 2011 all summer pretending like they had the best offer. Jimmy Butler whining about tampering, when that is all he does all day.
Portland just made Heat's two biggest rivals in the Celtics and Bucks significantly better while the Heat just gets older.

(From Woj)
Final tally on Lillard trade:
Portland gets Deandre Ayton, Robert Williams, Malcolm Brogdon, Toumani Camara, three first-round picks 2024 (Golden State, Top-4 protected), 2029 (Bucks and Celtics unprotected) and 2028 and 2030 Milwaukee pick swaps.

Nobody wanted Bullock from Spurs, the released him and he cleared waivers.
Just goes to show how barely put together this team was regarding starters. Will always remember his contribution to the WCF run.

On the eve the Mavs playing in the Western Conference Finals for the second time in three years, I've spent the last hour or so reading through this thread and decided to bump it. For the five or so people that still frequent this forum, I highly recommend you skim through this thread even just for a minute or so, because it is so easy to lose sight of just how damn far this team has come in such a short amount of time.
Seriously, just a few short months ago, the team was in absolute doldrums, and most of us wanted Jason Kidd's head on spike. Reading through the thread, it was clear the Mavs were more than a piece away from being relevant, and it seemed it would take at least a couple of years to get there. We all knew we needed another big outside of Lively. Lively, who by the way was completely unproven and some of us thought wouldn't contribute for a year or even longer. Welp, Lively as a 20 year old rookie has already proven himself to be one of the best rim protectors in the league, and could be a DPOY candidate year after year. And the other big we so desperately needed? Everyone, myself included, wanted Clint Capela, but figured he was out of our price range. Other names thrown around were Mason Plumlee, Ivica Zubac, and Andre Drummond. NOBODY mentioned Daniel Gafford. He wasn't on anyone's radar. Ditto for PJ.
And through most of the regular season, we were still more or less in the doldrums. An improvement over the disaster that was last year, but still a mediocre team barely clinging to a chance at the play-in tournament. Then the trade deadline happens. Between the summer of 2023 and the 2024 trade deadline, Nico accomplished in a few months what I thought it would take at least 2 years to achieve. The Mavs went from having the worst frontcourt depth in the entire league to arguably the best, and from having virtually no athletic wing defenders to a whole roster loaded with them.
The Mavericks are in the Western Conference Finals, people. Try to remember how utterly implausible that was just three months ago. We've gotten so used to good vibes and excitement for past couple of months, I think it's easy to forget how shitty things were just a little while ago, and how awesome it is that we're here now. Win or lose, this season is an absolute, undeniable, unequivocal, unqualified success. That being said, let's fucking win this thing!
Go Mavs.

I feel most of us thought if we could fix the defense and rebounding that we'd go places.
And you wouldn't believe that the only other active Mavs forum, someone came up with the idea of trading Gafford to make space to keep DJJ. It's amazing what short term memories can do for you when you only need to think about Dwight Powell at center.

Of course. I certainly did. But I also thought it would be at least another year before we filled every hole. I mean Nico basically overhauled the entire roster outside of Luka and Kyrie. Aside from hitting a homerun with the trade deadline, I don't think any of us predicted how good Lively would be as a rookie, and also how effective DJJ would be for us. Exum too, even. He hasn't done anything for us in the playoffs, but in the regular season, he was a major contributor.
We've come a LONG way from the end of last season, Dwight Powell was still our starting center, and guys like Davis Bertans and Javale McGee were still playing meaningful minutes.
