"Polynice accused of golf-course rage
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Associated Press
SALT LAKE CITY -- Police are investigating a fight at a Salt Lake County golf course in which former Utah Jazz center Olden Polynice is accused of assaulting another golfer after being hit by a golf ball.
Prosecutors haven't decided whether to file charges.
Sheriff's deputies responded to the Old Mill Golf Course on Monday. The alleged victim told authorities Polynice, 36, punched him in the face and ribs and spit on him as he lay on the ground.
A lawyer for Polynice disputed that account. Gary Gitlin said the alleged victim and his three companions surrounded Polynice, who had been hit on the arm by a chip shot when he walked back on the course to retrieve a scorecard.
"This was nothing more and nothing less than some guys in the sandbox not playing nicely," Gitlin said.
The 7-foot, 250-pound center, who opted out of a guaranteed $2.4 million contract this summer to test the free-agent market, reportedly became enraged. The alleged victim told authorities Polynice beat him up when he tried to apologize.
Peggy Faulkner, a spokeswoman for the Salt Lake County Sheriff's office, said investigators haven't been able to find independent witnesses to help determine what happened.
"This is a he-said, he-said type of situation," Faulkner said, adding that deputies found no injuries on the alleged victim.
If Polynice is charged, he would be violating terms of his probation in another case. He pleaded guilty in January to three misdemeanor charges stemming from two road-rage incidents last fall where he flashed a fake police badge.
After being sentenced in those cases, Polynice issued a public apology.
"I want to be a positive role model for the community," he said."

*Update*
Charge may violate Polynice's probation
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Associated Press
HOLLADAY, Utah -- Prosecutors in a Salt Lake City suburb decided Tuesday to file an assault charges against former Utah Jazz center Olden Polynice.
The misdemeanor charge, filed in Holladay Justice Court, stems from a fight at the Old Mill Golf Course on July 23. According to court documents, Polynice is accused of hitting and spitting on another golfer after being hit by a golf ball.
Polynice, 36, couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
Earlier this summer, the 7-foot, 250-pound center opted out of a guaranteed $2.4 million contract with the Utah Jazz to test the free-agent market.
Tuesday's assault charge appears to violate the terms of his probation in another case. He pleaded guilty in January to three misdemeanor charges stemming from two road-rage incidents last fall where he flashed a fake police badge.

Does Utah corner the market on centers going insance. First it was Luther Wright, kidnapping people telling them to give his kids back and he didn't have any kids at the time. Now we have the BIG "O" doing his thing... What is up with that??
I don't know what's more crazy him assaulting someone or him opting out of his contract because he wanted to test the free agent market. This dude has some SERIOUS SMP'S...
SERIOUS MENTAL PROBLEMS!!!!
