Why Walker is costing us games when it counts!!!!!!!

Last 4 1/2 minutes of the Portland game:

1. Walker bricks layup
2. Stoudamire gets rebound over Walker while Walker stands there and watches. Stoudamire goes on to tip in the ball to go up by 6.
3. Walker bricks 3
4. Walker tips a rebound out of Dirks hands as Portland scores on the fast break
5. Walker misses layup
6. Walker foul, Portland goes up by 9
7. Walker bricks a 3 with 35 seconds left and down by 7
8. End of Game

Antoine is not the problem with this team. You mention some problems he had last night (and overstate many of them) but you don't list the 3 pointer that got us with in 4 points or how he was the only one out there trying to get us back into this game while everyone else sat around looking confused) (except Jamison who wants playing time and is out there playing like it)

Well if that is his way of trying to get us back in the game, then we are going to be a lottery team...lol...that 3 you are talking about was a total luck shot....he only hits them 29 % of the time. Why is someone who shoots the 3 that bad shooting it two more times (bricks) in the last 2 minutes...THAT is the problem...he tries too hard by hogging the ball, and thinking he is "the man"...we dont need him trying to "take over" a game at the end...we did pretty good last year in crunch time without him...there is a reason for that....poor decision making is a big problem...take a look at how many shots he took in relation to the other big 4...and dont give me crap that Dirk would also shoot us out of the game...Walker is not known for FG% or 3p%...Granted Dirk is playing poor right now but there are reasons...(ankle and no rhythm)...Walker has shot poorly his whole career...at least give it to Finley who was semi on with his shot. Walker should of never shot the 3 at the end...we should have gone to the basket for a 2 point and then fouled them afterwards...

We need to learn to pass the ball and play more as a team!...NOT try to take over a game by oneself!

Did you even watch this game? The Antoine/Tawns were the only two trying to do anything.

Did you expect Antoine to sit back and watch everyone else like the other 3 guys on the court were doing?

Your looking for excuses to blame Antoine Walker (your luck comment proves that) because if you were being fair you would have made a list of what everyone on the team did to lose this game.

I realize the Celtics are sucking it up as bad as we are right now but can't you go pick on your own players and leave ours alone? Pierce shot 4 for 16 last night and had 6 turnovers. I am sure you could discuss that somewhere with your teams fans?

I've been a mavs fan for 5 years...I've had season tickets since I watch every game sometimes twor or 3 times.....dont tell me about "did I watch the game"....others are struggling because of injuries and chemistry but you need to take a long hard look at your boy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Walker isnt and wasnt the problem with this team. It's a collective problem, not an indivual one. Also, Walker tied for the lead in assist along Nash for 6 in the game so I seriously doubt Walker was attempting to "take over" by himself.

Im not saying there arent other problems (like chemistry and defense)...all Im saying is Walker does not "help" this team....stats dont thell the whole truth...just look at Najera's stats.....For every assist Walker has, he makes a poor decision twice....Im not saying he doesnt have some talent, Im just saying he doesnt play smart and wants to be the man...Im sure if he played more of a role player and didnt try to do too much, he would be alot better...We were KNOWN for our decent chemistry but now it sucks....that is why I like Jamison...he doesnt make many errors at all yet he shoots the best percentage and turns the ball over the least...he also plays more as a role player in that he doesnt require being "the man"....CHEMISTRY is a BIG problem and I blame ALOT of it on Walker...sorry guys but it is the truth!

You are not being fair and I don't buy for a second that you are a Mavericks fan.

The two Antoine/Tawns are learning a whole new system but are coming out with more energy and more heart then any of the guys who were big for us last year and have been here for years. That is a fact. Your Walker hating is just someone who seems bitter because his favorite isn't getting any credit.

Dirk might be hurt but his lack of effort has nothing to do with his injury. Every NBA player plays hurt and some have a lot more success then Dirk is having right now.

Antoine Walker doesn't require being the man that is a bunch of BS.
I don't understand what you expect him to do. Would you rather he sit and watch the game go on around him like Dirk did last night?

The whole idea of a thread is stupid and lacks merit.

Im not saying I dont think Antawn is playing good in the system...Im saying Antoine is not playing good in the system...sure the stats look good, shoot Nash could average over 20 points a game if that is all he did was try to score...everyone has a role and I think Antoine needs to make better decisions for the "team"...not to pad his stats...I dont argue though that the guy has heart and means well...I do afree with a earlier post that is is Nelsons responsibility to make sure each person has there "roles"....

oh, yeah.... I TOTALLY AGREE!....we need nash at the point as much as possible...he needs to be running the offense!...problem is, we dont have a backup point guard that can keep the fast pace up....Best plays too much of half court and chunks up too many fast shots to "prove" that he can still shoot the ball....if we could pass the ball around a little more, we would have a lot better chances of getting high percentage shots...

That is why I think the Kings offense runs so good, because they are all VERY unselfish and like to pass...if they pass the ball on one play, they might get the ball the next play for an easy layup....They play "team" ball as good as it gets...I wish Dallas could take more of that approach...I dont think Nelson ever practices it too much though.

Walker as a small forward would work out alot better I think, as long as he played more team (just my perception)....Dallas needs to re-establish who is the 1st option, 2nd option, 3rd option, etc...I think it is pretty messed up right now....nobody knows who the go to guy is right now.

The Mavs are 4 wins and 2 losses when Walker leads them in scoring.
We are 4 losses and 3 wins when Jamison leads them in scoring.
(only counting regular season games . Not preseason and when you consider one of Walker's losses came in his very first game in a Dallas uniform (to the Los Angelos Lakers in LA) is says a lot)

Walker was not given an extention in Boston because Danny Ainge is a jerk. He let his biased opinion based on a few TNT games dictate what he was going to do when he came to town. He was the head of basketball operations of Antoine's team at the time and do you know he didn't even try to get a dialoge going with one of his two star players. That is really pretty sad. (In a pathetic stupid sord of way)

Maybe, but I think it might actually be a good thing..this way he will get a better feel for whats its like for us fans to watch them play no defense and no chemistry

I think if that was going to happen it would have already..that is a week and a half old rumour...as far as Walker/Jamison, I think it will most likely be one of these two....as much as I hate to stir up more shi#, I have a feeling that nelson will either have to play Walker in the right fashion (give up the point forward) or move him for some more interior (big man)...We need a balanced attack and right now the point forward philosophy doesn't seem to be working....nelson nbeeds to re-establish his options and make somebody the official go to guy.

I'm NOT advocating necessarily that having walker play point-forward is a good thing but there was a point-forward named scottie pippen that won a few championships.

I have to agree with Mighty on this one!....Nash needs to man the point and let him create the offense for others. ie. Walker, Dirk, Finley, Jamison!...now that would be sweet!. In Walker's case, he could play near the low post similar to Jamison, the difference would be he would still shoot the occasional 3. I could go for that!

I am glad you could go for that but you are not the coach. Don Nelson is. Sounds to me like your problems should be with him.
