Default Menage trois DAL/SEA/SAN

Here's an idea I hit upon. I thought SAN could use a shooter, SEA could use a post scorer and to get rid of one of its Cs, and DAL could use a post defender/scorer. Whaddya think?

Dallas trades: SF Antawn Jamison (14.8 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 0.9 apg in 29.0 minutes)
Dallas receives: C Jerome James (5.0 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 0.5 apg in 15.2 minutes)
PF Malik Rose (7.9 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 1.0 apg in 18.8 minutes)
Change in team outlook: -1.9 ppg, +2.0 rpg, and +0.6 apg.

Seattle trades: SG Brent Barry (10.8 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 5.8 apg in 30.6 minutes)
C Jerome James (5.0 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 0.5 apg in 15.2 minutes)
Seattle receives: SF Antawn Jamison (14.8 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 0.9 apg in 82 games)
Change in team outlook: -1.0 ppg, -0.7 rpg, and -5.4 apg.

San Antonio trades: PF Malik Rose (7.9 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 1.0 apg in 18.8 minutes)
San Antonio receives: SG Brent Barry (10.8 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 5.8 apg in 59 games)
Change in team outlook: +2.9 ppg, -1.3 rpg, and +4.8 apg.

TRADE ACCEPTED

Due to Dallas, Seattle, and San Antonio being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Dallas, Seattle, and San Antonio had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You have been assigned Trade ID number 160027

James/Malik/Bradley
Dirk/Malik
Walker/Howard
Fin/Daniels
Nash/Daniels

Malik ends up as the 6th man for us/backup C. James is a lane filler.

Barry gives the Spurs a lethal shooter and playmaker, perfect to take pressure off Tim and pressure of Tony.

AJ gives SEA someone that can score around the basket. He'd play at PF where he's most comfortable.

Opinions?

James wouldn't get off the bench in a Nellie system.
Jamison, who has post-up and off the ball skills, compliments Dirk on the offensive end perfectly. He gets his scores without having to run specific plays for him.
Malik Rose is another Najera - maybe a little better at a few things, but still not a starting Center.

I can see Seattle doing it because Brent Barry may be gone anyway.
I can see San Antonio thinking about it, and maybe pulling the trigger.
I don't think Dallas would do it, and don't think they should either. Especially with Nellie and his coaching.

Malik Rose is not just better than Najera, he does all the inside scoring that Jamison does, which Najera doesn't do, and he defends the post, which Jamison doesn't do, and Najera, can't do. I think James would get off the bench. I suspect he'd get his 25 mpg, with Malik getting the rest. and while Malik isn't a starting center, he's better at positional defense, and inside scoring than any center or PF that we have now.

Really? Really? Really? I don't see it. Clearly you do, but how about, for my personal edification, you say why. Please, grace me with one of your tirades, as they are much funnier than just, "this trade is poop." C'mon, I need a fix. It's gonna be a real bad day today at work, and I need to laugh.

Well, I think it would not only be much more realistic than getting TMac, the #4 from CHA, or Chandler, and might be easier than trading Walker. Contrary to the musings of the crazy gorilla, and the blind dog, I think it'd be a boon to get Sir Rose in blue and white. He seems to personify nearly everything the Mavs need, in my opinion. He's tough, he'll knock someone down if need be, though he's no thug, he defends the post, he scores in the paint, he rebounds...

Ok, so I've gone to nba.com and checked his statistical production, and, on average, it's not as pretty as I remember it. Regardless of his average stats, when I see him play, it looks to me like he just plays well.

I still want to see the tirade. Please muster the energy and creativity Senor Ape.

I like Malik Rose. I think the Mavs do too. The problem is that San Antonio would probably rather not deal him - especially to a divisional rival.

But I really don't like this trade from the Mavs end. James has been called a huge problem in the lockerroom in Seattle. I don't think he would ever contribute here. And Jamison is way too valuable for this deal.

Switch Jamison with Walker and I'd do the deal in a heartbeat. I just don't know if the Soncis would want Walker. And I agree with ddh33 that it's highly unlikely that the Spurs would trade malik to a divisional rival.

James is a turd. A rotten, stinking worthless peice of fecal matter. The only way I'd take him is if Seattle forced me to eat his salary as part of a bigger deal.

Rose is a decent player. He could be a spot role player for this team in the same way we use Najera. But come on. He's not even close to being an improvement over Jamison. He's not even in the same ballpark. He's not that much different than Fortson, in my opinion, and Fortson can't even get a minute of playing time for this team.

I've read a lot of trade proposals on this board over the years. The worst I can remember is a Nick Van Exel for Kerry Kittles and Jarrod Collins. In terms of the talent discrepancy, this is even worse than that stinker. The only thing that makes this an even somewhat respectable proposal is the jettesoning of Jamison's ugly contract... but I don't think the Mavs have quite given up on him yet.

Certainly the Mavs aren't desprerate enough to dump a potential franchise cornerstone for these two journeymen spares.

Ape,

Would you do it if it was Potapenko or Booth instead of James? You might get Seattle to bite on Walker if you took a crap contract off their hands. Walker for S&T Barry/Booth/#12(Backup PG maybe).

Since we brought up Seattle. What about Ray Allen/Booth for Walker/J. Howard/Delk. Seattle has a 1.25 trade exception that would help that work. You might do a S&T of Danials instead of Howard. It is not the center solution, but hell, Ray Allen is a top 15 talent. Seattle only takes this if they can't get more after shopping him.

Nash/Ray Allen/Jamison/Dirk/Booth with a bench of Danials/Finley/Bradley/Najera/Fortson. Hell the scond team would be pretty good.

I wouldn't do it for any of the Seattle centers. They are all terrible. It's stupid to give up a star-quality player for a lower level center. History is riddled with teams that pay the price for overpaying mediocre big men. The Mavericks are a prime example (Montross, Bradley, Raef) Seattle have assembled a modern day masterpiece of highly paid turds at the five. Let's hope the Mavs don't one-up them by dumping Antoine Jamison for James/Booth/Potopenko. If we must trade Jamison, Finley, or Walker for a big man, I insist it be someone who can make an impact. The only impact the Sonic centers make is upon the Sonic fan's stomachs as they dry heave. Thanks, but no thanks.

However, I would be in favor of certain trades that would bring in Brent Barry or Ray Allen. Either one might just be the second best player on this team, and both would compliment Dirk perfectly.

I think someone on this board proposed a Barry for Walker trade a few months ago. I don't know if I'd do your trade as it stands now, as I think Walker is worth more, but I'd probably think long and hard about it.

The Ray Allen deal is a no brainer.

Now that was good for a laugh.

I'm not too worried about talent discrepancy right now though. We've got plenty of talent. I'd do it for walker instead of Jamison as well, as I think Walker slows down the offense, and I'm not too interested in seeing the offense like it was this year. Walker just costs more, thus making it more difficult. I suppose, I think Rose is what Najera is supposed to be. I'd like to have a guy like that on this team, no matter if it cost the 6th man of the year.

It's nice to know what the board, and the Fury think.
