Default Who does LA want???

If LA is bent on doing a three-team trade for Shaq...who do they want???

Please throw out some names of any reasonable players LA and Kobe may want (other than Damp) that the Mavs would also be able to trade for.....so that we can get the ball rolling!!!

Im thinking Kobe doesn't want stars in return for Shaq b/c he wants to lead an average group of players to the championship, but here goes:

Rashard Lewis
Vince Carter
Jason Kidd
Tyson Chandler
Samuel Dalembert
Elton Brand
Pau Gasol
Ron Artest
Al Harrington
Kirk Hinrich

Am I missing any good/young/cheap players. With that in mind please post your three team trade ideas.

All reports seem to indicate that the Lakers want two all-star type players and a young player with potential.

I would assume that one of the players needs to be a center. Depending on who else stays, they may need another forward or guard. Regardless, I still think Dallas has a better shot than most.

If we could get Brand, Hinrich Dallembert or Harrington we should keep them. They all have 5+ years left in them unlike Shaq.

I also have read this, along with the speculation that "if they have to take others" that they need to be expiring contracts.

That is what I think Dallas was trying to do until the Nash stuff happened.

Walker (All-Star type with Expiring Contract)
L8 (1 time All-Star, Expiring Contract)
Howard (young player with potential)
Stackhouse (All-Star type)
maybe a draft pick (ie Pavel)

I think these will match Shaq's salary requirements. I am not sure that it is enough talent (or the right talent) to get Shaq, but I think this was the thought when doing it. I will assume (I've read) that LA told them that it would take 2 all-stars, 1 young, and expiring contracts to make any deal work, and that is what these five represent.

I think they would rather that Stackhouse/Laettner turn into (Dampier or another Center), but GP, Kobe, Howard, Walker, Dampier would keep them pretty close to the top as far as talent goes.

Default RE:Who does LA want???

When Portland traded Sheed to the Hawks last year they positioned the trade (to their fans) as having acquired "2 all-stars." Keep that in mind. Ratliff hadn't been an all star for 3 years and Rahim is considered a perennial loser who was an all-star 2 years ago.

With that in mind, the Mavs can definitely offer up 2 "all-stars" and a young prospect AND provide the Lakers with expiring contract(s). They get their cake and get to eat it to.

All I'm suggesting, is that maybe when Kupchak and Buss tell people they want expiring contracts, 2 "all-stars", and a young prospect...maybe, just maybe, they are laying the groundwork for how they spin a Shaq to the Mavs trade...

Maybe.

I dont see any reason why Dallas wouldnt still do that exact same deal now, if thats what they were aiming for pre-Nash. That deal looks about right to me. Or maybe this one:

Walker - Laettner - Delk .... most of it expires in a year, Delk goes for one further year at about 3
Howard, Pavel (and future #1?) .... 2 (or 3?) young promising players

Thats a lot for a single $30M overpaid aging player.

a single $30M overpaid aging player that might bring you an NBA championship. He'll at least put you back near the top of the league...from which we've slid pretty dramatically over the last few days.

Agreed,

But what is the price for Shaq?

I still think this is where they are headed. Is it enough? ? Who is going to offer more? Do they really have to move Shaq? Too many questions, and not enough inside information to make a truly good decision. So I offer speculation on what I think (hope) will be Shaq to Dallas, while keeping Dirk. At least that is how I see it from a fans perspective.

Although I have been "torched" by people who say that there is no way Shaq gets moved w/o Dirk or etc. etc. etc................

Those who say Shaq won't go unless Dirk is in the package, are somewhat dillusional, or just don't watch basketball.

For Certain:
If the Mavs trade for Shaq I firmly believe Howard will be one piece. Young player, all the other youngs Harris, Daniels are signed.

Not For Certain:
If the Lakers move Shaq they will be conscerned with scoring and rebounding. This is where Walker fits in perfectly. He has size, quickness, can rebound and pass, and can score, albeit requiring many touches. But remove Shaq and Walker can pick up his touches.

I also believe that with the current state of the draft the Lakers will also want a late 1st rounder. Clearly more talented NBA ready players are dropping out of the lottery into the hands of good teams. Howard is a wonderful example.

Howard
Walker
Future 1st Round Pick

This is a good start. If the Mavs can find a way to package Stackhouse and Laetner into Dampier, I think we have a done deal. At this point LA may consider a few other throw ins, offering back a nice young bench player. This is where TAW could be involved. Mavs might consider Devean George, Kareem Rush, or possibly Brian Cook.

LA starting 5
C- Dampier
PF- Walker
SF- Howard
SG-Kobe
PG-Payton

On paper LA still looks pretty good, especially with the pick up of nice young fundamentally sound player in Howard and Walker's contract. I think Howard, Walker, Future 1st rounder, and a center via (Stackhouse and Laetner) will easily do it.
