Are you saying a trade can be announced now with Laettner and Stackhouse included, but not approved by the NBA until August? I saw someone else post this scenario on another board but did not think that was possible.

I understand that the teams could have an agreement in principle, but we all know that if a better offer is made in the meantime that agreement is not enforceable.

Unless the Lakers wanted the exact players included in the trade from the Mavs on their roster to start the season, I would think that they would want to Mavericks gathering the exact pieces they want now, or they would want to get the deal done sooner that later so that can start putting together a roster.

I guess the one thing that makes me think the deal is coming to ahead very soon is the reports that Kobe has said he will be making a decision over the weekend. One could read into it that Kobe is signaling "unless Shaq is traded now I am signing with the LAC on the 14th"
