DALLAS—The Dallas Mavericks announced today that Rolando Blackman, director of player development, will join the Mavericks television broadcast crew as an analyst this season. Blackman teams up with veteran broadcasters Matt Pinto (play-by-play) and Bob Ortegel (color analyst) beginning with the team’s first home preseason telecast, which will air on HDNet tomorrow, as the Mavericks battle the San Antonio Spurs at the American Airlines Center.
"We are excited to expand Rolando’s role and add him to the television broadcast crew," President of Basketball Operations/Assistant Coach Donnie Nelson said. "His expertise as a player and as a coach will add an enjoyable perspective to the broadcast that Mavericks fans will love."
Blackman is one of just two Mavericks to have his number retired. He played 13 years in the NBA – 11 with Dallas and two with the New York Knicks. He was originally drafted by the Mavericks in the first round (9th overall) of the 1981 NBA Draft.
The four-time All-Star played with the Mavericks from 1981-92 and is the team’s all-time leading scorer with 16,643 points. Overall, he appears in the top 10 in 18 different statistical categories in Mavericks history. He holds Mavericks records in field goals (6,487) and field goals attempts (13,061), free throws made and attempted (3,501-4,166) and starts (781). He owns a total of 27 Dallas regular season, playoff and rookie records.
