That's where I teach!
Lamar student held in sword attack on classmate
Star-Telegram
A Lamar High School student was being held Monday morning by police who believe he slashed a fellow student in the face before classes.
Police said the suspect, 16, was looking for a specific student when he arrived at the school about 6:30 a.m. Classes start at 7:50 a.m. He was seen in a hallway carrying two swords, each about 2 feet long, police said.
The suspect was tackled by school security guards in a hallway after slashing the 14-year-old's chin. The victim was taken to Arlington Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Police said the suspect was being questioned, and they did not know of a motive.

What a crazy Valentine's Day! Needless to say, after the "incident" this morning at school, there wasn't a whole lot of learning going on. My first two classes were only about 50% full and my last class had about 2/3 of the kids there. Many went home or their parents came to pick them up fearing the school was unsafe. The kid actually had 2 swords and 2 knives. The kid who was stabbed is now home from the hospital and doing okay. I believe he received 17 stitches. The doctors said had the cut been two inches lower, he may not have survived. Crazy world we live in!

"The kid actually had 2 swords and 2 knives."
Ummm... and where did he get that impressive arsenal of weapons from? WTH...
Any news on what the parents of the attacker had to say? What was the beef between the boys?
You can't settle a juvenile disagreement with just a schoolyard throw-down nowadays, can't you?

I have no idea where he got the weapons. From what I understand he had been home schooled for quite awhile. He just transferred to Lamar a month ago. He didn't even know the kid he stabbed. He was looking for someone else, but never found him. Several witnesses overheard him saying, "I am going to kill everyone here". Not a very good plan with swords. I just wonder if his parents dropped him off. The first teacher to spot him clearly saw the swords. She followed him (brave) and called for security. From what I have heard about the stabbed student, he is a very nice kid who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Funny. I teach sophomore English. Love it most of the time, but days like these make it hard. Most of the kids really are good kids who make my day very enjoyable.

RE:That's where I teach!
I personally find it encouraging that students show up at school at 6:30 in the morning
I usually had problems to make the 8 a.m. class with or without my samurai equipment...

RE: That's where I teach!
gotta give him credit for creativity. If he had any class he would have asked the other kid if he wanted knives or swords and offered him one of his. A duel isnt quite a duel when only one guy is armed.

How's it going at your school Raef? It must be sort of freaky to have had such a close call hit so close to home.

Yeah Raef.... what the hell's going on.
First the crazy medeivel warrior and now Star-Telegram.com is showing a photo of a student's car wrapped around a telephone pole.
Is there something in the water?

RE:That's where I teach!
Things are getting back to normal. I saw the traffic for the wreck yesterday, but I don't think anyone was seriously injured. The student who was stabbed returned to school today, and he seems to be doing well. It is a shame that things like this happen, but the situation could have been so much worse. Glad only one person was hurt and that he is going to be just fine.
