I found it great to hear that there are american players who respect dirk as a player. From my german point of view it seems as if he doesn't get enough credit for his game over there. Everytime i visit espn.com during the regular season (or the playoffs) they show d-wade,bron,melo,yao,t-mac or another "STAR". Its about f**** time for the title dirk..
i don't like kobe's character at all but boy can he play the game...imo he is one of the top 3players in the league right now (along with dirk and lebron, wade is the runner-up). Every opponent has to respect his game.
Lets just hope dirk recovers before the regular season starts. At least he will have some capable guys surrounding him. Go Mavs...

Dirk should just stay off the court (for games) until the season starts... maybe play one or two preseasons.

Greene and Roller get the game ball for today's/tonight's game. Greene for swatting Wade on the dunk attempt. It was a sweet play. Had Greene been in the NBA that play would've been on every Top 10 highlight for awhile and most message boards would be replaying it over and over. Wade looked like he had a sure dunk and Greene came over and went straight up and got the block. Simply amazing.
Roller gets the other ball because he got Wade on the rebound. Of course Wade had to milk it for 10 minutes but still.
(Btw, Dirk probably is tiredand a month off in Septemember will do him some good. But if he wanted to shoot 30 times a game in these WCs he would have. Holger liked his passing and he's been trying to do better in that area. And if Hamman actually made a layup Dirk would've had a couple other assists.)

I was a little disappointed to see that Germany wasn't able to keep it closer. Dirk's 15 didn't get it done.

Foul
If it was the NBA. That would be a foul.

I get really nervous when I see my favorite American players participate in these games.
I know the players want to play.
But I know how you guys feel when you state you hope Dirk takes it easy for the rest of the summer. I wish Manu would do the same.

Funniest part is the little laugh at the end. Since i am the person that uploaded it i have a much better version on div x/codec and it looks better.
Edit although it would have been called a foul in the nba it wasnt a foul. He had verticality and he got all ball except for wades off hand which wade was leading with hit his body.

He ran in Wade's direction, that's enough for an NBA foul. Nice to see Wade get knocked on his stupid ass and not get a whistle for it.

Right, but with the NBA refs obsessing over Wade, it definetly would have been a foul.
In reality, great clean block though.

How in the name of all that is holy does that play not make the highlights but wade being a baby does to make everyone feel sorry for him. I GUARANTEE you if wade had capped dirk like that it would have been on everyhighlight. It would have been a top play, and probably nominated for an espy.

Fans will note that Nowitzki was only 3 for 12 with five turnovers, and there's a lesson here too. Yes, the Americans played some good defense, but the dude is also out of gas. Players like Nowitzki and Dwyane Wade that played until June and then had to almost immediately begin training for the World Championships have been notably less efficient than their normal standard, which is one reason these summer international tournaments give the U.S. so much trouble. Other players with long playoff runs, like France's Boris Diaw, Brazil's Leandro Barbosa and Anderson Varejao, and the U.S.'s LeBron James, have also struggled. This is also why Argentina is limiting Manu Ginobili's minutes.

Late shot sends France past Germany
Posted: Thursday August 31, 2006 8:57AM; Updated: Thursday August 31, 2006 8:57AM
SAITAMA, Japan (AP) -- Mickael Gelable's layup with 1.8 seconds left gave France a 75-73 victory over Germany on Thursday in a classification game in the basketball world championship.
Germany's final possession ended when Dirk Nowitzki took an inbounds pass on the left sideline and as he turned to get off the possible game-winning shot, he stepped on the line with .9 seconds to go.
France (5-3) will play Turkey (6-2) for fifth place on Saturday. Turkey beat Lithuania 95-84 in overtime on Thursday.
Joseph Gomis, the French point guard who replaced the injured point guard who replaced injured star Tony Parker, hit a 3-pointer with 20 seconds left to tie the game at 73. Gomis, who came into the game averaging 3.8 points, finished with 17 and was 3-for-3 on 3s.
Germany (5-3) turned the ball over on the inbounds play after Gomis' shot. Germany opted to foul Boris Diaw near midcourt with 11 seconds left, hoping for a chance to win even he made both free throws.
Diaw, who plays for the Phoenix Suns, missed both, but Germany again turned the ball over as it was coming up court. Diaw grabbed the ball and found Gelable to the side of the basket and he made the tough layup with Nowitzki all over him.
Gomis started and played 22 minutes Thursday because Aymeric Jeanneau, who did a solid job in leading France to the quarterfinals for the first time since 1954. Parker, who plays for the San Antonio Spurs, broke his finger in the final exhibition game just days before the tournament started.
Jeanneau played six of the first seven games in the tournament hampered by a right thigh injury and he didn't play at all against Germany.
Ronny Turiaf, who plays for the Los Angeles Lakers, added 15 points for France, while Diaw had 13 points and eight rebounds.
Nowitzki, who came into the game averaging 23.1 points, finished with 29, 21 in the second half.
Germany won the bronze medal in the 2002 worlds.

I'm very glad it's over. Although I understand that dirk want's to play but being selfish, I very much wish he hadn't played at all. Training camp is now about a month away.
The NBA season is long and really grueling, I hated that he was playing. I fear a fallback next year.
