Terry for Maggette
Apparently Corey Maggette wants out of LA. Assuming he isn't part of an Iverson trade, it might make sense to offer Jason Terry. The salaries work straight-up, and Jet might make an excellent backcourt mate to Livingston once Cassell retires. Maggette would give us great size and athleticm at the SG spot, and would help our rebounding and defense. We would miss Jet's shooting however. Maggette is also injury prone.
Lineup:
Devin Harris / AJ
Corey Maggette / Stackhouse
Josh Howard / George
Dirk Nowitzki / Croshere
Erick Dampier / Diop
Dallas Trade Breakdown
Outgoing
Jason Terry
17.1 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 3.8 apg in 35.0 minutes
Incoming
Corey Maggette
17.8 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 2.1 apg in 29.6 minutes
Change in team outlook: +0.7 ppg, +3.3 rpg, and -1.7 apg.
Successful Scenario

If they want Stack or Croshere's expiring contract for him, I am all in.
Terry, nope.......Dallas already doesn't have enough consistent outside shooting.

I Lover Maggette...but ur crazy...I am telling you guys Harris is not ready to take over this team as its pg. We need Terry
If you include Terry u better make sure its something like this Terry + Crosher for Maggette and Casell(apwllin)

I bet Avery would love the fact that all he does is drive to the basket. Only a couple of seasons ago he was getting to the line 10 TIMES a game.

He wouldnt need the ball to be effective (adding on D), thats crucial. Plus he slashes which I haven't seen dnough of from the Mavs. I'd do it.

maggette was on the verge of becoming a 25+ ppg scorer and then injuries hit, and the clippers signed mobley and hired dunleavy. It's been going downhill since.
I'd love to get him, and I would do this deal if maggette was on the floor more over the past few years. Right now, it's very hard to pull the trigger.

Throw a contract like Stack or Cro at the Clips, and maybe a second-rounder, and I'd be happy with that deal.. but if we're talking about giving up one of our two or three best players... I'll pass.

Looks like this will be a non-issue pretty soon anyway if he goes to Sac.

Who knows... Luckily the folks that matter (donnie, aj, cubes) aren't so inclined.

Why? There's no reason to change this team.

^ Seriously. Plus, JET is like one of the leaders of this team and getting rid of him with mess up a lot of the chemistry on this team. AND whos gonna be clutch for us at the end of games????? The only scenerio i would do this if it was superspare or Croshere for Maggette, but Terry is a no no.

Terry>Maggette
Maggette is shooting 13% from three this year, BTW.

He's also averaging an incredible 13.8 free-throw attemps per 48 minutes, #1 in the league by a wide margin (Wade is #2 at 10.2).
Of course I don't want to part with Terry after his great performance tonight, but since this proposal has gotten such a negative response, I'll offer some of my rationale in putting in on the table. As good as Terry can be, there are still a lot of drawbacks to starting him at the two. I think most would agree with that. We get great shooting, clutch three-pointers (as seen tonight), and poise and energy. However, he doesn't provide the kind of defense and rebounding you expect from a standard 6-6 shooting guard. He also doesn't have great ball handling ability and doesn't get in the lane or to the free-throw line as much as you might like. He doesn't have the passing or playmaking ability that you expect from a point guard, as evidenced by our poor ball movement last year (near the bottom of the league in assists) and the fact that Devin is our starting point now.
As long as we are playing Terry, we have to sacrifice either size in the backcourt or ball-movement. That will hurt us at some junctures down the line, especially when his jumpshot is off. Ideally, I think he would make a great sixth man, replacing Stackhouse eventually. I proposed this trade a couple of weeks ago when I thought we were floundering, and Corey Maggette was said to be available. I didn't think it was a homerun then, and I don't think it is now. I did think it was a realistic trade, however, and that it solved some problems (albeit while creating some new one, like shooting as mentioned above.)
Again, I am not advocating dumping Terry or blowing up the team with this post, just offering some justification for proposing the trade in the first place.

I'll give you the rebounding and the D could be better, but he is a good ball handler and does get in the lane and to the line. His passing has been better than it was last year, and is certainly better than Maggete's.
